A Comic Goes To Die: Pokemon Go Launch & Stranger Things

we are recording from three different countries I know three different time zones three different pants well you say that but the fact that we had to change the timing of how we do the podcast now that the three of us are in I was going to say we're all in different hemispheres we're not let that be clear but uh we are in different hemispheres than we always used to be yes uh and I jumped in the shower about 5 minutes ago thinking I had nothing else to do tonight uh suddenly remembered and uh jumped out just in time to get on the air with you guys but um your pants comment is redundant because tonight I'm uh taking a queue out of Luke's book I'm doing this podcast naked so pretty much there's only one pair of pants in this

urethra multiple nerdgasm your guide to All Things nerdy there you go feel better thank you for listening well I'm in America how about you guys I I'm still just in Australia I'm still just in Singapore but um yeah America M the United States thereof drinking some coffee that came from a little uh you one of those coffee filter machines oh yeah have they handed you your gun yet no not yet been there a day and what did I tell you I had one request of you buy a gun on your first day there it is your right as an American I don't know if I'm allowed to just yet I'm not technically American I don't think allowed to comes into it

Matt I got to say this was the easiest immigration experience I've had here like normally you know you'll line up and they ask you a bunch of questions and all that kind of stuff I think all that all those questions were answered by whatever was in that top secret envelope that I had to give them right they sent out they sent me an envelope that had a bunch of paperwork in it and they they said don't open it um hand it to the guy you get there and I got I cuz I didn't know which line to get in for my specific visa and so I asked somebody and they said oh just come with me he took me straight up to a desk handed the guy the thing he opened it and he went all right have fun huh prev vetted kind of yeah which is annoying it was actually annoying because they told

me to allow hours for them to process everything um so we did and then we just waited for hours for the next flight 6 hours actually oh yeah but if you hadn't have played for that I know I know something would have gone wrong of course yeah I'm here now it's warm oh it's warm is it yeah it's some all right sorry well it's some of here it's warmer than it I assume it's cold there in cber L wait so you moved all the way to America and it's it's hotter there than Australia you must be so annoyed it it is but it's going to be like this for a much shorter period and then it's going to be freezing a lot colder for you yes cuz it's going to snow where you live is oh yeah oh yeah yeah it gets into the

negatives well that's one negative not for me I like it so I'm not in a whole new country but it's as if my country is a whole new place now because something happened this week that changed everything I have an idea what it is Suicide Squad well we'll get to that no gentlemen I'm talking about the fact that Pokemon go is now live in Asia yeah as of this weekend so I'm officially calling [ __ ] on all of those stories were reported on in the past where people like in Korea were going into the DMZ and catching Pokemon [ __ ] they didn't have Pokemon yet they do now we all do it's it's [ __ ] nuts yeah I've actually stopped playing have you yeah the thing is Luke I mean I remember your

comment about when does it start being fun and I I will say the game itself it's not it's not that fun there's not a lot to it game but the fun is the fact that for some reason my Saturday night this week entailed walking around my [ __ ] neighborhood for 3 hours right looking for these Pokémon bumping into other people coming out of whole crowds of people huddled around street corners G have you found it yet there's a squirel here yeah yeah we've got uh there's two very um popular areas for hunting Pokemon around here in Rhode irand uh East Greenwich uh the main street of East Greenwich I I don't know if it's popular we we like it there's a lot of Poké stops uh and there's you know a lot of good cafes and things so

that's a good area and then there's Oakland Beach which is kind of a Beach area with a very famous seafood restaurant and uh some delicious food and a lot of Pokémon at the beach I was uh in my local Telecom provider today uh updating my plan and I was sitting at his desk and I had to say to him like mate do you play Pokémon go he said no I haven't haven't got it yet I'm like mate you should download it because they are all over your desk there were about six of them on his desk so have you got out and brought an extra battery pack for your phone yet no I haven't but and and I'm really still learning to play this game because it doesn't really give you much in the way of tutorial right no handing and I have

never played a Pokémon game in my life of any kind I didn't even have aagi right and all that kind of stuff is far into you right my head to the point where I fast rang out of pokeballs because I are they called Pokéballs I've been calling them that right I fast ran out of pokeballs because I didn't know you had to spin that thing to generate more oh no one told me that if it told me on screen I missed it no I don't did no so anyway figured that out eventually by mistake well you you're lucky in a way because well they fixed a lot of bugs I think during the the initial releases like here and in you know in um in Australia and everywhere there's a lot of bug fixes have been made uh it doesn't crash constantly now it crashes

sometimes and the screen doesn't freeze up all the time only sometimes and uh they've introduced once or twice apparently people were getting catching Pokemon and then when they were checked in their backpack they had different Pokémon to what they had actually caught oh so it would like swap them out at the last minute and uh yeah there's a couple other things that have been happening but about the lawsuit that's happening at the moment what's that well there's a classx lawsuit that's sort of been put forward because play the jingle oh [ __ ] I'm not ready I want a new laptop by the way talk about that later nice not ready at all what editing's for we can just pretend we heard

it proceed okay so um yeah you well you know we've reported how that guy moved into a church and po well the class action is of a bit around that about having Pok stops on private property ah cuz it's getting somebody is saying you're digitally trespassing no well it's not digitally trespassing it's because the Pokey stops there people are actually trespassing to get there right wow and so they're putting forward this lawsuit to go look we didn't ask for these people and it's because of you that they're here so give us some money well I good luck with that that because we've talked about the I think people don't understand how things got to be like that and you know like

there's a reason that certain things are Poké stops and and gyms and that's because in the previous game they were tagged it's not like Niantic went out of their way to [ __ ] with these people yeah it's like no no but but I also love the fact that it'll give you a little bit of information about where you are yeah know I like that too actually and it encourages you to explore and find things in your neighborhood you might not have realized we there I would have liked it if it was up to date yeah there was one stop where I went through and it's to be a little picture of this guy painted onto a bin the bin is gone in fact a few years ago they painted it and then last year they removed it yeah right there's a few um where I worked in Sydney that were like

graffiti that were just not there anymore but I mean that's fine is it is it really no probably not probably I should probably sue them you guys want to go in on a class action lawsuit with me play the jingle again [Music] that so that's been my life for the last 48 hours I will admit when I first came out I played it like nonstop for a week after about a week though you sort of realize there's nothing to it I don't want to go on about Pokémon go too much but I will say this there there is a big difference between the Pokémon that appear in in either different countries or different areas because when I was in

Sydney I was overrun with bloody do Duos I don't is that the same in camber l oh no I I drew with rats and bats really okay cuz yeah I like the DU Doo I I put on the Instagram at one point as a joke not a joke it actually happened my my bag was just full of them I couldn't get rid of them like that's all we had and here I have not seen a single do Duo and people have said oh we've never seen one I've never seen one you haven't no yeah okay yeah I keep getting uh what's the owl called Pidgey keep getting Pidgey oh yeah yes we have Pidgey here we have uh we have a lot more speos here and we have a lot of uh weedles oh yeah yeah got a couple of weedles yeah but yeah no do Duos I not a single one so there are seemingly some

Regional Pokemon we found there was a website we could go to that could help us with this well there's not anymore they took them what well there used to be so you wouldn't have experienced this this little bonus either for a little while you tell me what I would and wouldn't have experienced dare you um but I don't know you you also wouldn't have had the tracking feature too right when it first came out you know how down in the bottom right you've got a picture of all the Pokémon that are nearby tells you what's around right it used to have little Footprints underneath them that would tell you how far away they were kind of and then you could tell if you were getting closer or further away because the number of footprints would decrease

or increase right right and using the API application programming interface the a company made this website called Pok Vision which would tell you literally where the Pokémon was and how long they would be there so you could you could just go there and get them like it mapped it all out for you you know there's a squirtle right here and just like a week ago a couple days ago uh Niantic disabled all of that because they said we're launching in more countries and these these websites are killing our servers like we can't support it so up until like it's a few days ago or like a week ago Luke that they yeah it wasn't long ago at all yeah they they killed them all and they said no no more

and and they've removed that feature from the game Al together cuz they said it's just too too much load on the servers well that feature stopped working about 3 days in yeah that's what I mean yeah just they couldn't support it I I think one of the other reasons they might got rid of that tracking feature on the the phone so the footsteps is because people were walking into stupid spots yeah you seen the video of like people running across a highway and I think that's the reason they got rid of it man people are stupid I mean there is a little bit of that in the game though you know what I mean like I mean we We snuck into the ground of a Baptist Church last night right and we weren't the only ones in

there yeah it is funny when I mean I don't think I I don't think I've been anywhere ilite but uh I have been like wandering around and then you know in that car park that you'd think could be abandoned at that time of the night and then there's just a bunch of other people there as well like all looking at their phones yeah speaking of uh Regional yes Pokémon being slightly different I was in China week before last and I saw a a man walking towards me Chinese man uh and he was walking a labrador uh just normal looking Labrador you know nothing nothing weird about it except when I got up close and saw its face it looked a little bit Chinese I thought you were going to say

it had a human face but that was funny anyway no but you know what I mean like even the dogs dogs in China look a little bit Chinese look like their odors maybe it's that yeah how does that work though is that just bias you thinking that well I mean maybe how would they have features well [ __ ] I'm I'm not a scientist Matt okay let's let's just let's just say that right now I'm not a scientist no no no no we can we can come out with with a hypothesis for that maybe they breed them you know with a preference towards those features because they're more familiar there you go sure like the ones that look more chinesey will get picked from a from a litter of puppies

sure yeah yeah survival of the cutest is this a good probably not you want to abandon this do you want to just abandon this and cut and we back to be honest it's more something I've just been meaning to tell you guys since it happened because I was literally I was like do look a bit Chinese so you haven't bought a gun in America Matt what have you bought uh well I had to buy new power adapters for our Xboxes uh my Xbox actually uh will Xbox we we shipped one so that'll be here in in a month or two uh it's on a ship on its way here yeah that's what shipping means y good thanks for clarifying all right good just making sure yeah uh the other one was in my carryon bag because we wanted to have one while we were we carried on an Xbox

that is dedication we wanted one for couple of weeks before we left and we wanted one for the month or two that were here without all that stuff so it was in my duffel bag and uh I didn't have any problem s at all until we got to LAX and I was we're just trying to board the the flight to here and then they flagged the bag cuz they said the guy he was very cool about it he was nice nice guy TSA guy mhm but he said we uh yeah know we've going to have to check we have to check all the Xboxes um because you know they could be bombs so I recommend in future you don't you don't carry on your Xbox and I was like look I'll be honest yeah that's fair enough I probably won't be coming back this way with this probably the probably

the only time I'm going to want to do this cuz it's it is pretty annoying carrying this thing around but uh yeah so they swabbed it and all that kind of jazz and it got x-rayed and obviously it was fine because it's just an Xbox um but the power here in America is different uh as you may or may not know they're 110 instead of 240 volts and for some reason the Xbox One does not have the universal power adapter like a lot of devices do so you literally can't use the the Australian power supply it'll it'll blow up so um we have to buy two new power supplies and I looked online and you can buy you know kind of cheap knockoff ones for you know like 20 bucks but I thought that seems pretty stupid I not be risking that no and so I asked actually

went to a Microsoft store and they said oh no we don't sell them and I was like oh that's weird they said go to GameStop so uh GameStop if you don't know is basically just EB here uh so we went in and they said yeah yeah we can we can organize them they're pre-owned uh but we have we have a bunch of them I was like that's fine okay and they wanted 60 bucks for them each and I was like you know what that's pricey but I don't want to risk getting a cheap one I want a legit Microsoft one so that if something goes wrong it's all covered and everything so ordered two of them uh they had to come from the warehouse so they shipped them from Texas they arrived here one of them's fine one of them uh was probably about $20 off eBay right when the person bought it so

I I called them up and the the man in um in the Philippines told me wasn't much he could do so I uh took it back in and they said yeah we we'll take it back and we'll ship you another one but there's no guarantees it's not going to be a third party one again well that's what you're buying because they don't distinguish between yeah know I said to him if you charge $60 for these things you're probably going to have to make sure that they're the real thing otherwise what are you doing is not my responsibility to make sure the things I'm selling are the real thing thank you sir good day I'm telling you now this one that they sent out it was a piece of [ __ ] like this power supply it like it didn't it didn't even

weigh remotely the same didn't have any Xbox logos or anything on it it was just like it was did you just explain to him like look if you send me another one of them I'm coming back again and he said no the the people in the store were really nice about it and they said look I'm so sorry there is no way for me on this system to to to determine whether this thing I'm sending you is actually a legitimate Microsoft product or if it's some bodgy thing that someone brought in and trade it with their XBox unfortunately so the basically what's going to happen is they're going to there's no way to check apparently they just don't distinguish between them they have they've got like a pile of power supplies like you could distinguish between them so OB L to the

naked eye it was clear but they don't have a way on the system to communicate make sure this isn't some piece of [ __ ] one we want to a legit one but I mean why they why are they not filtering these garbage things out anyway yeah I was about to say why why isn't that just a prerequisite cuz I said to him the goods merchantable quality and they understood and I said what happens if I plug this in and it kills my Xbox like this it's a cheap piece of jum so and they're like oh I wouldn't plug that in mate exactly so yeah anyway well you've got time you don't need that second one for a while anyway no that's right we don't luckily so um yeah the uh the new one will arrive probably in a couple of days and we'll

see H well keep us updated but uh you'll be happy to know that that the Xbox that we have here is all working fine everything's going great and I've been playing we got any other video game news since I just kind of seg wait I don't know if we do I haven't played much I sort of do I because me and Matt we tried to record all last week and I couldn't because of work yeah it was terrible it was awful I wept I managed to keep my achievement streak going thanks to my Windows phone cuz I did not get back to the hotel at a decent time to play the Xbox at all you took your Xbox hot mysterious yeah I took my Xbox of course I did did you carry it on or did you put it in your check luggage were you

overseas I always just I check baggage I always do oh so you just chucked in a suitcase yeah you want to just back up a sec and tell me where the [ __ ] you were oh I was in Brisbane oh I was in Brisbane for work right getting very mysterious but then again you are a spy ex Jenna you might have to beat that so it sounds like you said it's going to sound far worse yeah I got back yesterday and then I drove Hannah to Sydney and back uhhuh and then today was I had to get a lot of cheap to stay in the competition but I managed to do it I'm still in the trueachievements.com competition for gamer SC oh really cool yep it was close but I managed to do it you love that

thing don't know why I'm just addicted to it oh well how many people left in the competition there are how many 361 left now is that all yeah wow well obviously I hope you win but I'm biased so I think the hardest part's going to be in about six five six weeks time what was that when you're erect when I'm in America of course yeah see how is that going to you're you got to get an achievement every day right yes so yeah how's that work with time zones well it's still going to be based off the Australian time zone oh because that's where my account is registered so I still just have to fit in with that

yeah you have to make sure you keep an eye on that guys speaking of time zones right yes I was in Manila last week and you know what I saw time zone the arcade oh yeah right cool I actually going really there's it made me smile to know that somewhere in the world people still go to time zone I think there's one still one in Sydney yeah in right yeah Below on George Street below the the movies there there was a time zone I saw it yesterday must be two of them there's still a Time Zone on George Street yes wow mind blown so you actually in Sydney Sydney yes oh cool how how is it horrible yeah how is it haven't been

there for a while I mean I liked it when I was there but all right yeah pretty good I like the nice quiet I know suburbs I live in yeah and then I drive to Sydney and it's terrible it's I mean it's only been a week but I do miss it a bit CRA is very picturesque I'll say that it's very quiet I had no idea and I thought I'd been there but I hadn't I realized when I went to cber Luke the most recent time to see you that the last time I was there was our high school trip and you don't really give a [ __ ] if something's a picturesque little town when you're in high school you just like right am I going to get to [ __ ] one of these chicks the answer was no camber chicks no way no I mean one of the chicks from from our school that

were you know didn't really care you didn't really care who you [ __ ] the female you care if they were female yeah that doesn't surprise me cuz I got [ __ ] um I sent you guys a Snapchat during the week that nobody responded to and it's possibly because I hit send when I meant to hit text and I was going to put a little caption and I didn't so it was probably too out of context to even really understand but you know how they say no child is born racist and racism is something that we all learn right I can now officially say that's not true right okay okay so I was um I was at an

orphanage and uh we were doing a shoot there and one do you think you liked yeah um one of the crew members on our team was black right right mhm MH and uh we came in we sat down we're getting introduced to everyone and this Little Orphan girl wandered over came up to guy looked at him really confused looked at us wandered off came back with her paints and very politely and naively proceeded to paint his face white Jesus well I mean it it's cuz he's different to you to to her like you know I mean it depends she knew how he was meant to be I mean

kid yeah maybe they're not born racist in that they you know they don't hate them and you know like no but she knew it was a bit wrong you know you know what I'm saying it's different it's different and did he let her continue pting he did but the look on his face was uh was not amused no he's like oh not this again he like if only God had done [Laughter] this oh dear uh well speaking of uh speaking of there's a Rocketeer reboot in the works I see and uh apparently we're we're assuming people are going to be really asking for a new Rocketeer movie oh no I'll say I love Rocketeer oh yeah great I love

Rocketeer and what I love most about The Rocketeer movie was that they didn't try to set it modern they kept it set during the Nazi times like it was in the comics so it still made contextual sense MH but uh they seem to now just be uh trying to see how far they can piss off the internet H it must be a personal challenge because they have decided that uh instead of the usual uh casting they are going to cast a black female as The Rocketeer so I'm just waiting for this to get ugly yeah see I don't I don't really care either way except that as you mention context I'm not sure that like storywise I mean if this is an attempt to to be somewhat historically accurate I'm not sure how that's going to work I mean well for starters I'll

say I doubt very much in 2016 they're allowed to still make oh they I suppose they' made Wonder Woman a period movie uh maybe I'm wrong yeah I was going to say they're probably going to change the context right no well I mean in Wonder Woman if you notice from the trailer they've got B planes and things um except the soldiers look like Nazis so it's it's kind of right I think it's a bit ambiguous when Wonder Woman is supposed to be set cuz Banes and stuff is World War I but the nais is World War II like so it's kind of this weird it is World War I she's fighting in well I mean okay well they look a bit different then perhaps they HS yeah but uh I don't know this is set six years after the original Rocketeer which was what the

40s I guess uh no it have to be late 30s yeah it says um a sit behind the backdrop of clamor Hollywood in the late 1930s okay all right well I mean I don't give [ __ ] but I can see yeah people are going to be annoyed about wait so this is a sequel yeah yeah interesting and I like how they they're sort of doing it they're saying like the original Rocketeer Cliff he's disappeared right yeah while fighting the na disappeared fighting Nazis and then she fires the backpack and then defeats a Nazi spy okay so it's uh the Force awakens yes yeah basically okay well I like that and I like The Rocketeer so that's great it could work I might watch this again actually I do love The

Rocketeer yeah I don't think I've seen it since oh Manan it's great oh it'd be at least 25 years I remember it being great hopefully it's still great I remember I remember uh Jennifer Connelly being great in it oh yeah yeah remember her being great in I remember her her breasts being absolutely Immaculate in this movie I'm going Italy right now Jennifer Connelly wallpaper archive um breasts [Laughter] Immaculate oh dear yeah well look I love I love any movie where people fight Nazis cuz you know I say any movie where they have Immaculate breast that's too but yeah Indiana Jones uh

Hellboy all of that it's all good stuff Captain America they're the two movies about fighting the Nazis that you go to what not war movies right no shut up no no no no I love it you just named two of my favorite movies [Laughter] Matt oh dear well speaking of Indiana Jones for a loose segue uh that actor also played Han Solo and they're making a Han Solo movie they've announced the actor and apparently he's locked in for three movies okay now I heard about this this isn't guaranteeing there's going to be three MOV no no no they're just preparing in case they want to make him y there's a certain irony in that because Hans H solo like he's a real

[ __ ] person Harrison Ford was the only cast member in the original Wars who was not contracted to sequels oh really yes in fact that's why Lucas had alen Foster was it alanan Foster Foster yeah Splinter of the Mind's Eye right Splinter of the Mind's Eye which doesn't feature Han Solo in case he couldn't convince him to come back for a sequel huh that was a great book yeah it really was it was one with the crystals in it right KY Crystal yep yeah oh do you know who wrote The Force awakens the novel novelization Foster yes I tried to read it I kind of shock when I saw that I tried to read it and then I was like I've seen this let's watch the movie yeah exactly yeah so they're they're pumping out these Star Wars movies you know we'll see how that

goes we're guaranteed one a year for the next four years or five years or something I don't know if that's a good thing or not but we'll see I know I I think this is the next one to come out um I've completely blanked on the name of it Rogue one Rogue one I think that's going to be the big big thing that shows how it's going to go yeah if people actually like these spin-offs or not cuz this is the first time that there's been a well no it's not the first time there's been a spin-off movie caravana courage one of my favorite movies battle for indor yep look ah I just worry I mean maybe it's just that I'm like more picky now than I used to be cuz i i find I dislike a lot more films than I used to like I kind of just

used to like all movies yeah but now I'm I'm I'm very picky but like I said I didn't like the new Star Trek very much although I'm like maybe that was my expectations I don't know I didn't like the previous Star Trek very much no well everyone keeps saying this is the best of the new ones and I'm like oh maybe maybe if I rewatched the others I wouldn't like them as much either I didn't like the second one the first one the first one was great the first great movie I thought so but yeah I don't know I like Star Wars but I just worried that they're going to [ __ ] ride this thing into the ground like DC's doing DC they just need to stop I haven't seen stop everything they're doing and start again I haven't seen

Suicide Squad yet but [ __ ] no I don't think any of us have seen it yet right evidently it's still doing well and making money but it's not getting good reviews no it's not no but none of them get good reviews well I mean the Marvel ones so I [ __ ] sorry I hate to do that fuing go on Matt I shouldn't Ang I shouldn't have come give Marvel a big hug Civil War got pretty good reviews yeah Civil War was a good movie yeah I'll give you that I mean and they've had has there has DC had a good review for any of their movies yet no not really that's all the Batman movies that were [ __ ] awesome oh yeah right and new Batman we're bat flick I don't mind batfleck I'm on team batfleck

man I know I think he's going to be a great Batman I can't wait I rewatched Batman movie I rewatched Batman versus Superman B of Justice on the flight because it was there and I was like I wanna well see again like for something I like it even less it's it's just like even if you turn it off before doomsday comes in well I didn't that's my plan from now on to just turn it off there I don't think it helps it's just not very good even and like if Batman kills way more people than I even remembered just [ __ ] murders everyone like it's just it's just not can I ask a question sure because I mean bad Fleck is in Suicide Squad however briefly right so does that mean if they

ever do Batman versus the Joker in this universe and we already know Batman has fought the Joker because we saw that little Easter egg yeah Batman vers Superman does that mean that the Joker he fights is the Jared Leo Joker yeah I must be it has to be right yeah I mean yeah logically you would think so right but I don't know it's already cannon in that that universe that that's who the Joker is so it's Joker is now see the thing I get about watching the Batman and from what I've seen the S side I don't feel like I'm watching a comic come to life no you're watching the opposite a comic go to die yeah yes uh yeah I did want to see

I'm seeing Suicide Squad during the week actually I've already I've already got my tickets yeah I do I want to see it cuz I got to know going to see it I'm looking forward to it look I suspect there's things I'm going to like about it you know even if there's a lot I don't like about it yeah Harley Quinn yeah so that I went saw the Jason Bourne movie yesterday oh did you probably didn't need to make another one of them probably probably should have put that script on the same shelf they put the latest James Bond movie on just quietly yeah right I still enjoyed it but I mean honestly is there a point that was just that wouldn't another paycheck with that one yeah yeah and you know how the cuz I I actually really

like the Jason bour movies and you know how every single one has a really good hand toand combat fight scene in it yeah this one doesn't this one he can literally about four separate occasions during the movie he knocks out someone with one punch [ __ ] that's annoying yeah um I watched two movies two other movies on the plane because that's on a plane yeah one of them or should I say one of them I've been I put off for a little while uh and I finally got around to watching it and I'm going to play this this jingle right [Music] here I'm not going to play the whole jingle cuz it's way too long that'll do but were you play good at all I didn't hear any of it so uh

for us no no playing of them oh I've been playing them been huming you oh well I apologize for that I need to check the setup on this laptop uh I'll sort that out for next time anyway I was playing the James Juan jingle because I watched James Juan's fast seven or furious seven I think it might be actually I think it's called the very quick and the very angry cool did you get a little teary at the end uh oh yeah when uh Paul Walker drives off in a flaming car seriously there Matt what did you think of this movie yes I've seen it seen [ __ ] loved it I haven't seen it yet it's so [ __ ] ridiculous I loved it yeah yeah yeah I'm so glad you liked it Matt I'm so glad you liked it I didn't even expect it to

be as ridiculous as it was I know and I've not seen another fast and furious movie right I have and they were not this ridiculous wow so it took James Juan to take this to the next level I mean some of them I feel like they've they've gradually like kept ramping it up and then at the point where as the season as the movies have gone on they've just got that little bit more crazy and crazy and crazy every time when any other director would have said I don't know where we can go from here James ju was like I know exactly can go from here yeah I mean the more we talk about him the the more excited I am for Aquaman you know so okay there's a number of action set pieces in this that I would I just want to watch over and over again yeah and they're all set up

in such a ridiculous way where it's like you know this is going to be stupid but it's amazing my favorite obviously was uh where they have to break in to this Penthouse in Abu Dhabi on the top floor of this enormous skyscraper and steal a hard drive out of a car all right no this makes any sense no cuz it's always got to be in a car I know muscle even like foreign criminals that they've got nothing to do with also love cars that's right now spoiler warning sorry I'm going to spoil some stuff here because I mean it doesn't matter it's not the plot is not the point of this movie at all I don't even remember what the plot was really no I don't is there actually a plot yeah the

plot is driving yeah the the plot is they've got to set up all these action sequences and then do stupid [ __ ] in cars so obviously when they get up into the penthouse things go wrong Michelle Rodriguez has to fight Ronda Rousey in 10 minutes yeah which was amazing in toughest chicks in the world yeah in like sexy dresses and then um and then obviously they have to drive the car out of a skyscraper uh by jumping it to another skyscraper it's what you do Matt come up with a better way to do it no I don't think I can no you can't I actually I was like cuz I it got me though cuz I was like what are they going to drive it down the side of the building what are they going to do and then yeah like isn't that someone fire a rocket launcher that like boosts it so it's literally drives AC like out

the window of the skyscraper and they're like what like 100 stories up and then they jump it in and land just happen to land you know on the floor in the next building I think they keep going don't they to a third building of course they do mat and then obviously um they dive from the car and that at that point and it it continues out crashes amazing yeah yeah World Class Cinema and then actually I think possibly my my most favorite moment in the whole film is when The Rock is in hospital because he's Jason's and has beaten him up and his arms broken in a cast and his daughter's there and he sees on the news that all this chaos is happening in the city because there's a [ __ ] drone shooting up the City that they have to kill with their cars um and he he gets

up out of the hospital bed and he says Daddy's got to go to work and he flexes and the cast bursts off his arm yeah but let's also remember that the reason he's wearing a cast is because he was blown up in an explosion and flung out the window of a building and then when you cut to his what you assume is his dead and mangled corpse it's just him in a hospital bed watching TV eating a jelly with I'm in a cast it's so good yeah I just love that it he just this whole movie just doesn't care about that stuff it's like a balls out action movie yeah like it's ridiculous like Vin Diesel should have been dead so many times just he crushes his car like head first into Jason stam's car several times like it's a running gag in the

film where they just have a head-on collision and then get out and they're like all right that's fine I mean it's such a coincidence that STM even has a car like that or likes cars like that yeah I know I know and like why are they all such good drivers yeah yeah I mean I I didn't even know the rock was in these movies right I knew that Vin Diesel was but I didn't know The Rock was in them he wasn't in them from the start right no he came in I think there must have been some point where he rang his agent and said I've been watching these Fast and the Furious movies this is the kind of [ __ ] I should be in surely yeah and I love that there's a little bit of foreshadowing at the start where the kid like P Walker's kid's playing with a car and he's like

like fly through the air and Paul Walker goes kid cars can't fly and then later on they have to drive the cars out of an airplane oh it's ridiculous like it's it's literally ridiculous but I love yeah it's [ __ ] stupid but in a good way will it make you go back and watch the others I don't know man and if James Juan didn't direct him I don't think I feel like I because I've seen I've seen the first one and the second one and I think I watched on a previous flight here I watched like maybe four or five uh and I know I've seen that clip of one it might be six where they've got to stop the tank have you seen that clip I think we've talked about it on the show where Michelle Rodriguez goes flying out of the the front wind screen

and Vin Diesel crashes his car and flies out of his wind screen catches up [ __ ] stupid but again amazing so maybe I should watch him maybe anyway yeah thumbs up James Juan you're still my favorite director at the moment just amazing and something else I watched that was also amazing was Zoolander to have you seen it no but I must say Matt I was never even a fan of the first Zoolander oh really yeah I was and I know everybody was I there it's it's me there's something wrong with me I enjoyed it when I first saw it that movie has dated terribly yeah maybe yeah well I mean this one's got a lot of very uh very topical jokes in it so okay I don't know if it'll hold up but man this movie got terrible reviews and so I kind

of held off but I watched it on the plan because Jenna watched it first and then I was watching I think I was watching um Furious 7 and then I finished and I was like oh man that movie was great and she said I just watch Zenda to and you need to watch it cuz it's hilarious and uh yeah it is man I really enjoyed it I don't know whether it was cuz delirium from the uh you know the the eight hours I'd already been on the plane but uh yeah I really enjoyed it so I've got this problem at the moment after I finished watching stranger things Luke you uh given that a go yet uh not yet I will I'm still working on it but talk away okay no I'm not going to spoil anything from it even though I know you don't believe in spoilers anyway I'm just going to say I I just

want everything to be stranger things now right it it's ruined literally everything else for me um so I'm trying to only watch things now that resemble stranger things so I'm working my way through Spielberg's early films right how long has it been since you two guys have seen ET the Extraterrestrial I haven't seen it since the guns turned into walkie-talkies and I actually realized seen walkie talk I've only seen it once as a at the cinema that might be true as well for me I don't remember watching it again I know yeah no I don't I don't think I've watched it recently guys this movie is [ __ ] dark you could not make a kids movie like this these days and Luke I assure you

the guns are back to being guns it's okay ah they're back but you can kind of understand why they changed it like if you watch this movie now you go put all this [ __ ] in the kids movie like there's one like let's go get ET and then it just cuts to a closeup of a cop just [ __ ] cocking a shotgun you know what I mean yeah well yeah but it's an alien I know but when that alien gets sick man it [ __ ] hits you in the gut a like this movie took it out of me emotionally all right well maybe I'll try and watch that this week yeah it's got a young Drew Barrymore in it doesn't it yeah yeah and she's Charming she's very Charming the the kid in the lead is amazing Elliot Elliot yeah not his real name

but probably not but he's great he's just really good speaking of kids right yes Matt did you happen to see that the kid who plays DUS in stranger things did the what stranger things character are you quiz and got Dustin I [ __ ] love that kid he's great how good is that though oh man Dustin is he a [ __ ] I feel weird asking this is he on Instagram or something cuz I that kid's just hilarious I need more Dustin yeah maybe we should try to get him on the show that would be amazing imagine that oh man you got to watch this show look it's great I will I will I promise [ __ ] don't promise US mate promise yourself promise Dustin there more CH for me doing if I promise you guys I promise me I'll just

L to myself try and hold you accountable um I saw that this week uh you know Harrison Ford famously broke his leg while they were shooting force Awakenings and I saw this article that said the producer uh in charge has played guilty to negligence because you know they admitted that it was uh it was they messed up but did you read this about what happened like it's I didn't no so so how for sued them oh no no no no no no they I don't think so they just because it because it happened they have to you know oh no he's he's plad guilty to criminal charges so somebody has pressed charges well I don't know maybe they're obliged to no sorry the UK's health and safety regulator suit Disney right wow

because well on the Millennium Falcon set they built that you know the big door that the that opens and then chewy and hard run in the main door to the Millennium Falcon I guess effectively chewy we're home well they built it right and they built it in a badass way so that it kind of slammed clothes really quickly in a cool Star Wars kind of way right right instead of suddenly the film speeding up like it did in the old films yeah well the power of the doors drive system this is a quote was comparable to the weight of a small car and uh Harrison Ford said uh I think on Jimmy Kimmel or something he said now we had a lot of money and technology and they built a [ __ ] great hydraulic door which closed at

light speed and somebody said oh I wonder what this button does and then the door came down and hit me on my left hip because I was turned to the right and then it flung my left leg up and dislocated my ankle drove me down into the floor my legs slapped on the ramp up to the millennium Falcon and broke both bones in my left leg oh [ __ ] yeah so uh and then they're saying that if um if it oh here we go the only reason for didn't sustain more injuries or die was because the person operating the door pressed the emergency stop button Just in Time Imagine That imagine he'd been killed by the Millennium Falcon oh guys that I I would by going out by being killed by the Milan Falcon

I'll keep that in mind Luke we'll figure out something we'll figure something out yeah I was like [ __ ] that's brutal I had no idea and like it made me wonder because I knew that he broke in his like but I kind of forgot and you know the scenes you know especially during the um the battle scenes on um you know when they're outside maz's place when he's moving around but he's like moving a bit stiff like he looks like he's he's not comfortable moving around I thought it was just cuz he'd got on in age but maybe he you know his leg was just crushed under a [ __ ] car basically Jesus so I'm surprised he was moving around the way he was yeah so yeah I was wondering if that's why he looks a bit stiff in the film uh I mean probably not he's old anyway

but that this wouldn't have helped no cuz I remember when they said he broke it it wasn't like no they didn't say that it got crushed like no wasn't that big a thing like here he's broken his leg we're still filming yeah it'll be F which producer has been charged it can't be Kathleen Kennedy surely no uh somebody else has taken the fall it looks like the production I don't think it's an actual person yeah you might be right it says producer pled guilty but Kathy Kathy Kennedy is the producer of of this and all the other stuff was yeah yeah then it's if I read on to another page got foodal Productions limited has today pleaded guilty to filing to protect actors so it looks like it's the company what happens

particular person when you when when you we might have talked about this on the podcast before but when you decide to make a film you start a company that that is the production company of that film and that film alone they do this for every single movie made in Hollywood and it's so that if anything happens on that movie and somebody sues they can only Sue from the profits of that movie yeah so and they they also do that so that the movies aren't profitable so they can avoid paying royalties to certain people yeah yeah that's just a that's just a side effect a nice nice little byproduct of that for the exec for example if you're the author of the original story from gravity or something like that speaking of authors of Original Stories I think we have some

followup here of a court case we've discussed on this podcast before yeah aism now I haven't seen this uh this other film lockout that we're talking about here uh but I have seen Escape From New York obviously because he great movie we talked about this before uh Luke Besson produced a film uh I don't know that he did he write the film or anything um he certainly produced it a film called lock out starring Guy Pierce from Australia uh and bloody Pierce mate yeah M and John Carpenter saw the film and went hang on a minute that's the same as my film that I made

uh he also B the film twice true now I mean this is a weird one right because the film I mean they're not really the same they're sort of the same it's a dystopian future where the president or the president's order or somebody gets taken into a you know a high Maximum Security Prison in the future that's every film made in the 80s that's what I mean in in lockout it's in space right in in Escape From New York it's literally New York they turned Manhattan Island into a prison and I mean and not only that this film lockout was a flop like it's it's not a good film it's not like they made a bunch of cash off it but uh John car sued them for copyright infringement and he's won wow

they've had to pay you almost never win these kind of litigation yeah there's always someone who usually says reasonably someone else could have come up with this idea as well yeah and I mean I'm sure I mean Fortress is another one that's I mean is it the fact that it's [ __ ] love Fortress Yeah Fortress is great that's cuz it's got Christopher Lambert in it man is his best role outside of Highlander well okay apparently it says here one aspect helped Carpenter in this case uh was the fact that it was a wide relase Hollywood project uh not a lowbudget thing like the Asylum make um and I think is it is it a presidential related person that he's got to

rescue in which one well in in Escape From New York it's literally the President right he has to rescue yeah in this one uh president's order from an outer space prison yeah so it's kind of the same but not really I mean it's only as the same as every movie where a [ __ ] cop has the Mob kill his brother and now he's out for Revenge yeah or or like everything's been done before yeah I mean or you know a baseball team have to go up against the you know the best team in town and they you know they've got a lot of heart so they end up winning yeah or the hockey team or the you know whatever team or the boxer or the school all the same movie yeah yeah so the funny thing is though I've I've just gone onto IMDb to look up

lock out right yeah um to answer your question was Luke basson credited as a screenwriter yes he was but also him and two others lupas on screenplay James ma screenplay Steven lier screenplay original idea by Luke bong maybe that maybe that credit is what just pissed off uh carpenter carpenter yeah yeah it could be and he was like look if you just [ __ ] said we wrote this script but the fact that you pointed out this was an original idea by you I'm not having that yeah I think that's fair well look he didn't get all the money he wanted he was suing them for two and a half million he got up to 95,000 right which is probably not it's not going to buy him a house but he
