we've not targeted maybe we should be are you saying that we should lean into that and kind of our content to be a little bit more gay and a little bit more indigenous well let's wait and see if we hear from anybody first I preemptively sure why not some terrible stuff happened this week oh God go on and I'm just going to L off with it Johnny Depp wins I don't think he wins oh he he I don't think anything W and i' like I'm interested to know why you think that's terrible versus the alternative which is an apparently lying woman who lied about domestic abuse wins which seems worse to me there are some interesting polarized opinions on this and and I definitely want to go into it so go ahead I wasn't hoping that he hit her or anything had

actually happened to her no one suggested you were hoping he'd I'm not sure why you started with that L we haven't accused you of that it's also not great that I'm also not sort of it's not great that if she did lie about it and all that but also they're both just terrible people I know but that's not the point of the lawsuit like I know but a lot of people are going like they can't the jury couldn't just come back and say in the account of defamation we find that you're both awful so yeah I know that but a lot of people just uh I don't know I seemed to be I sort of think Johnny je Johnny Depp is still charming and everything I'm sort of like I mean seems like an [ __ ] no I don't know Charming [ __ ] yeah I think he's I think he's definitely Charming I think

that's got a lot to do with with how he's won back the public everything to do he's good if you don't know him sure I don't know man he brought a lot of character Witnesses in that were like he's the top guy like yeah oh yeah he's an alcoholic and a drug addict for sure and he and he definitely yeah and he definitely has rage issues yeah and he's not perfect but I think what it come I mean the court case comes down to did he hit Amber herd and they seemed to have convinced the jury that he didn't and then it also came down to did she say that he did and did that affect his career and they also said yeah that also happened so that's really well I think the big the big part wasn't actually even if you did hit her not did it affect his career that's what it really

came down to well I think cuz part of it was was it a lie cuz it's important that it was a lie I don't think cuz there's already been a trial about whether he hit her or not I don't think there could be another trial for no no that was in the UK that was in the UK this this when they read the verdict the the questions were did they sa were you satisfied that the article was about Johnny Depp yes were you satisfied the article was untrue yes do you satisfied that that meets the the character of defamation yes and that's why he won I think it would be hard to prove that it was defamation if it was correct yeah so I think I think like as far as the case goes He they've decided that he did not hit her I read a very interesting article in the New Yorker

this week that said that Johnny's win is bad news for women because now they're going to be in fear of not being believed and I guess that does make a certain kind of sense except that in this in it was him who was the victim and it was him who was not being believed how is that his fault anyway how is that not Amber herd causing Amber's fault because she she came out and gave a statement that said oh this is going to set back you know women who've been abused I'm like yeah it is and that's your fault cuz you cuz apparently you lied about it yeah so don't you know if you did in fact lie about it as Johnny Depp has proven that you did that's on you yeah yeah it's an ugly Affair though it's an ABS abolutely ugly situation I agree with you on that Luke I'm glad this is

over I'm glad this car wreck has been cleaned up now I hope I hope he it's true that he didn't hit her otherwise this is awful yeah you're correct yeah I really hope that he really just didn't look I'd stopped watching the Pirates of the Caribbean movies long ago I loved the first one absolutely loved it um but I think they my interest in them tapered off at a certain point and I I didn't give a [ __ ] that Captain Jack bar was no longer in them they let him back in and he makes another one good for him is K ja Pirates of Caribbean anymore no they fired him because of all this how do I have p i i I stopped watching them after the first how make PIR car without him I think they canceled it but then now they just they just can't speculators are speculating that they'll make another

one with Johnny Depp now well I mean he's got two options doesn't he he's got the option to allow himself to be welcomed back with open arms and and and just Embrace that he's got the option to give him the finger and say [ __ ] you I was right all along well um from the way he spends money he'll be signing any CL I think he should anyway I think as a as a sensible if he is in fact a sensible person he can he should understand why they did what they did like I don't MH oh yeah yeah yeah yeah lawsuit was about well I know and I saw some um some legal commentator saying the other day that now she's unemployable as a result of this so oh for sure but does that that mean she can sue him for defamation well no well she she did counter Sue and uh she was awarded 2 million oh not because

of anything he did but and so because people were kind of focusing on that and apparently like I said I'm not a lawyer but what I as it was explained in this video that I watched he won pretty much everything she won 2 million because his lawyers made some comment that was defamatory during the case that was not true was nothing to do with him it was his lawyers said something about she trashed the apartment or something some some silly thing like that and apparently that was she intentionally trashed the apartment she was able to prove that that was not true okay she got 2 million but she did poop the bed she did poop the bed yeah and she also admitted that she lied about pooping the bed in the other court case so I'm not quite sure how how that legal

ramifications for that cuz that's perjury so I I tuned out at this point I I was all in at the beginning and then I just I couldn't watch it anymore it was too awkward but I watched none of it was there a moment where Amber herd literally sat on the stand and went oh fine it was me I the bed I I I have not seen the clip but my understanding is that yes she said it was a prank okay she said she pooped in the bed because of a prank I mean that's a hell of a [ __ ] prank it was her poop that she put in there as a prank as my understand it was a prank it was a joke that got out of hand but the problem is that in the problem is that in court in the UK in court she had previously said she didn't do it and it was the dog so I I whatever pistol or Bandit I know their

names because Australia was going to kill them you could I know what you mean Luca it's a shame that he's all charming and whatever and everyone's loving him and I know that annoys you but have you seen any clips of her like she's like the opposite awful and I so I really hope that this isn't just a case of she's just so uncharismatic in these situations even though she's telling the truth she just sounds like a li ask bad advice from her lawyers cuz her lawyers didn't seem the greatest and it could have been her lawyers were going look just play it this way just be so stick to the facts be like this it's it's just advice she got from them cuz I know I've heard there were a few times where like lawyers was started to go down the line of questioning they

going hold on no this makes Johnny look better and sort of diverted type of thing I know and then and every time she answered a question am Amber her I mean she would just seem like was trying to she never give a straight answer and like she was just kind of dodging all it's like she was trying to remember what she was meant to say yeah she just came across really badly which can you just be that she was coached too much could be or I mean or it could be that she literally was just lying which is it seems what that's what the way she's proven to not be the the great actress that she wants us to think she is have you seen there is a PO uh Paul what is that thing that you sign a petition petition to get Bruce Campbell to replace Amber herd in Aquaman 2 get

Bruce Campbell Bruce Campbell he has said s me the script I love that my every 3 million people have signed it well evidently there were they were talking about removing her entirely from that movie and the cast were like I think that goes a bit too far but evidently her role has been cut down to um just over 10 minutes worth of screen time now so she's been reduced they may even regret that after this turnout it's very possible but I hear they're not going to replace Ezra Miller in the flash is that true yeah apparently so they've come out and said that that's not uh that's not something they're considering they still think releasing an Ezra Mela movie at this point is although I did say it does say barring unforeseen developments Oh you mean like

the several times now he's been arrested for assaulting people randomly unforeseen developments see I think I think they're just they're stuck in a corner they want to sort of not but this is so pivotal in restarting their whole franchise that they're sort of locked in yeah well this says it would not be possible to replace Miller without re-shooting the entire movie they're in just about every scene and there's not enough digital technology in existence to configure that magic without going back to square one redoing the entire film is not realistic proposition Y no then you're right Luke they would desperately love love to get out of this [ __ ] mess they in oh man I I'll watch it I mean not at the cinema I mean maybe it the only

thing that's making me watch this movie is Michael Keaton oh absolutely yeah I still record that should got the actor who played The Flash on the CW and just brought him in because has he who got drug and assaulted anyone no no Bruce Bruce Campbell as the flash just Bruce Campbell comes in and replaces anyone who's had misconduct I I'd watch it amazing he's in House of user replacing uh it's just every time it cuts to a different angle of Frank LEL it's Bruce Campbell yeah or tign nataro depending on what they need to oh yeah oh tign nataro did a great job as well that yeah that was that was pretty amazing I got say and that was that was an easier fix though sure because the whole film was CG basically mind you the flash has most of his face covered

wouldn't you just have to CGI the lips although then again they tried that with Justice Le you know what I'm going to shut up about that that didn't go so well I was going to see if anyone's caught up an Obi-Wan yet yes and I want to talk about it well I haven't caught up to episode three which is out now but I did catch up on episodes one and two which I hadn't seen last week when I was getting fairly critical about it so I do want to just wind this back a little bit and say that by the time I'd watched to the end of the episodes that were available I was kind of in I must admit yeah I'm starting to starting to grow on me yeah I got to say I am enjoying it but I can't help I know them the the the original movies too well and I just find myself going hang on a minute like every

10 minutes or so I just I can't help it and I wish I could be one of those people that are like just chill out like I wish I could well even if they kind of like oh technically if this happened and this happened and this happened that could be true it's like okay sure but it's still a logic hole even if it's not a plot hole and like and some of this stuff is not their fault George writing himself into Corners one thing that came yeah we're talking about this week at at at at trivia game and someone reminded me of just the Ridiculousness of the idea that that and it didn't have to be this way that that Owen is literally his uncle yep yes that's right that's ridiculous yeah yeah not only that he so so they they wanted to hide his child so they gave it to his only

living his actual uncle and they didn't even change his name so that if he ever if he came by looking for his kid he'd be like no this is coincidentally and child they put a Jedi Knight within ey view of it so that he could look after him they changed his first name but not his very famous last name that's one of my that scene in the first episode I really wish when he bump when the other Jedi comes up and goes you're Obi-Wan and he goes no just Ben I wish the other guy said Ben what though yeah Ben who yeah don't take anobi don't take anobi don't take ridiculous but like that's not their fault but then there's other stuff like what's her name River kidnaps has Leia kidnapped right because she thinks Bale and Obi-Wan are friends and that'll lure

Obi-Wan out which it does and so she kidnaps Leia and she's right right so clearly B Orana is in contact with obiwan Kenobi and apparently between now and A New Hope there don't appear to have been too many consequences for that four Bale Orana or layer yeah yeah she's still a senator do we know what happens to Bale Orana though we don't we don't see his fate at any point do we well they they do blow up alderan in in yeah but we don't know that he was still alive they might have blown up his corpse when they blew up all the r because at that stage remember that um Leia was the senator for Allan at that stage okay when we first meet her all right but what you're saying is right but we we don't know what's going to happen because odds are she didn't tell

anyone no I know that's possible no but Vader knows she told him the plan didn't she did she I I feel like she did like so you haven't seen episode 3 so I don't want to talk about episode 3 too you know you know you know Vader's in this I will be the one thing with Vader they nailed the voice this time I think that's James L Jones I think that's no I've seen I've seen him like when Revenge to the Sith when they got they still got James Jones to come back it didn't sound like still wasn't quite right no this was spot on yeah this was perfect oh okay Vader's too powerful now what if why are they doing that right he's doing stuff that I'm like why doesn't he do that later you know cuz I didn't have the special effects for it back then well there's

there's I mean there's a whole lot of that why why doesn't Obi-Wan do the [ __ ] Jedi fast run that he did in the in the start opening scene of Fantom Menace why does he never do that again yeah it just just watching it I was kept finding myself squinting being like wait what V can do that I mean all right even though this is quite prequel adjacent it it the tone of it is quite good I I I must admit and I was watching and I had my daughter in my lap and I was watching like [ __ ] Obi-Wan and a little girl you know going around having adventures and my wife was like man they know their [ __ ] audience don't they no I look I'm I am enjoying it it's just little things like like why is he wearing his lightsaber if he's especially if he's not planning on using

it and he has to reach to get to the gun it that's what I mean cuz he put the gun behind it put the gun in front mate I love the fact that we see him shooting a gun because it's proving that guns are just incredibly more effective than a lightsaber yeah despite what he says later well all he said was it's more civilized to use a sword he doesn't say it's better I think the big problem with him not using going to the gun over lights at the moment is that he's out of practice yeah and like even when he like Capt like saves layup with using the force that's like the first time he's used to force in a long time but why is he still good with a gun I mean whatever I don't it doesn't matter little things like that that annoy me I'll say one other thing that annoys me

just because this one's still really bugging me and I don't see how they going to explain this one away right Leia in A New Hope knows him as general Kenobi Obi-Wan Kenobi and Ben Kenobi I've verified that this week by watching does say Ben Kenobi okay when she's in in her video message to him she calls him General Kenobi at first and then she says help me obiwan Kenobi you're my only so she knows those name and then when Luke comes in and says I'm here to rescue you I'm with Ben Kenobi she goes Ben Kenobi where is he right she knows who he is yeah but not only that the weird thing now is her message to Obi-Wan Kenobi is you served my father during the Clone Wars blah blah blah she doesn't mention any of this stuff hey it's me remember me we were

great mates yeah it's me I need your help again if you look at it she's doing a very formal request at that stage she's she's acting as a senator a Luke's an apologist not yeah if he's he's being paid under the table she she he really wants this to work she was the youngest set sen in 1999 I went to see The Phantom Menace with Luke and this was the exact kind of tone he had when he was trying to explain to me why I didn't hate it I spent a whole like like we could say probably weeks worth of time arguing with Dave about this so mhm but no it is good it's not you're wrong you don't hate it you love it yeah I just we just could have accepted at the time it's just odd and I I'm like well you didn't have to do that you didn't have to do

any of this like why are you doing this any of these spin-off shows stop it imagine imagine if there was nothing other than and we were you know in our 40s still remembering some movies from the late 70s early ' 80s you know what I mean I think it's what you said last week when you you nailed it when you're talking about how babyon 5 are like five and done like we've seen we've seen it it was all good we loved it till the very end and now we can just wear the t-shirt and say we love it mhm but I'd like more careful about wanting more I'm checking my list of annoying things some of these are specifically about this episode don't want to ruin the episode for Dan or what's that something from episode three yeah but I don't want to it's not important it's just a little

niggly thing we can talk next week I'll definitely watch it yeah in fact I was going to watch it last night but instead I watched the first episode of season four of stranger things I've only watched the first episode seen the first epod how is it it might be my favorite season so far yeah it's good it's very good they are leaning into the horror aspect of it which I love oh yeah they're really leaning into that there's some great stuff going I'm I'm really looking forward to watching the the production values are so good it's like they are they really are I'm in the ' 80s yes it's it's not it's Nostalgia done right even like Jenna pointed out there's little things like when when I think Dustin's using the pay phone and someone scratched ET phone home into the

pay phone it's just like little touches it's just so like well done and now it's getting on in the 80s now so now there's modems and BBs stuff that there wasn't in the earlier ones there's an igga in this episode I know this igga 1000 one Dan over instantly yeah that's right I was like bam igga all right we're in we're in yeah now what's scaring me is these episodes are quite long like the last episode in this episode 9 it's like 2 and 1 half hours great then this is only volume one of season 4 there volume two how many episodes are in the first volume I didn't want to look I think there was 10 oh wait 10 in the first volume oh no there's nine in the first volume that's still a lot especially if they're 2 and a half hour I know I think no that episode 9 volume 1 is 2 and 1

half hours then volume two comes out in the month but will volume two be be another Nine episodes or is it going to be a shorter uh seven episodes um the hold on let me let me actually that's season so there's I apologize I didn't want to look on Netflix because I didn't want to see the anything volume one will have seven and then volume two is going to have like two long episodes ah that makes a bit more sense so it's going to end on a movie okay that does make sense right okay and will that be the end are they saying that this is the end I think it will be because this isn't even what they' originally planned for no cuz remember they originally planned for this is going to be 780s and then we're going to do second season going be set

in the '90s it's going to be like 10 years on but everyone went we love these kids we want to see more of these kids yeah more kids mhm the kids did really make the show I mean don't get me wrong everything about it was great the writing the atmosphere the production design was great but like I don't know if I'd watch this if Dustin wasn't in it you know what I mean it did take me a little bit to get back into it because they they do look older now and they all look really odd like intentionally cuz they're a well they're that age yeah also that age where you do look a bit odd but also they don't necessarily all look the same age as each other now but I guess that's that's accurate too to your kind of adolescent years well yeah one of your friends will just suddenly

be really tall and have a mustache we're smoking at school some of could go buy cigarettes and others couldn't yeah that's true I'm sure Dan you could probably guess who my new favorite character is oh it might might well be your new favorite character as well man oh not only that but I I I'm petitioning him to to be casting the crow remake that they keep AR about who the I'm like bam this guy is in this this guy is awesome yeah who who great you'll you'll you'll know as soon as he shows up you'll know man he is [ __ ] there's a couple new characters there's one in particular you'll be like yeah as soon as he shows up you'll be like oh they Matt and Dan love this guy sure yeah that's right they were like yeah yeah what about the alternative kids from the 80s who would

they like yeah what what if there was a guy who liked D and D but also was like a heavy metal yeah SL drug dealer yeah that's right mhm all right I I think I'm going to try and watch it this weekend SL just charm Charming extrovert yes [ __ ] it's so good yeah and it's like yeah we I want to we have to go on about he's weird but he's like charming and nice like he just doesn't he doesn't seem like he's a dick in any way like cuz he's clearly the Billy replacement right but he's just not a [ __ ] with but he's not like Billy cuz Billy was a respects his customers he's a good he's a good character he does he's [ __ ] Charming to his customers yeah oh they're all good the [ __ ] the characters in this are written so so

well I was going to say yeah cuz you know when yeah he's talking to the girl and she's starting to get nervous and he just totally like you know he's like oh you know what what you call it lightens the mood and everything like that I like this guy's great yeah he's gonna die totally it's cuz he's been that I thought I was worried I don't want to say anything cuz someone was going to die you knew someone was going to die yeah yeah and actually I liked both the characters in that scene so I was like actually don't want either of these to die I'd like to see these to continue which they very way I've only seen one who [ __ ] knows yeah look Dustin will be missed obviously but uh but you know there's there's plenty other kids in the show so

yeah I just can't believe that he got [ __ ] to death you know what I mean like unbelievable Yeah by 11 no l and the the fact that you s I know that's right that's right I do love the the warning that uh Netflix had to put on this um it's something the wording of it was to like extreme violence towards children or something Jesus Christ yeah given the recent events of Texas is what it said here and then Jenner and I were both like okay well we know what's going to happen in this opening scene now so spoilers I mean it's a flashback we already knew that that happened but yeah but still yeah um that has it and Obi-Wan now has it too did we talk about that last week Obi-Wan has the same warning now because yeah if you remember what the opening

sequence of the Obi-Wan was of course yep it also has a warning now you are about to see in two seconds you're about to see a bunch of children be attacked little kids running yeah for their lives yeah yeah wow so true [ __ ] me I mean if you're going to put a warning about anything I guess that that is quite traumatic yeah oh The Stranger Things One in particular I was like and you know what I probably wouldn't even have thought of it but because it had the warning and then I saw the scene I was like yeah jeez I yeah warranted on the nose yeah yeah yeah yeah not spoiler it's literally the opening scene for a flashback yeah and they and they warn you about it yes it's not before you watch the show anyway I also had a

little look of something this week because I've talked on this podcast before about my love of the docu series the staircase yes and so I decided to check out the drama series that they've just made which stars Colin fth and Tony Colette and uh it's quite good it's quite good it another one of those ones where I was like I'll watch the first episode just to kind of Judge the tone of it and ended up binging the entire show it's not very long I think it's six or seven episodes so I have questions about it is it yeah set around the court case or is it set around the it's set around the murder itself or the the the the incident itself flashbacks before the incident the trial and the involvement of the documentary crew the

documentary crew are all characters in this so how do they address the fact that we don't really know what happened ah in a very interesting way if if you want to know see I don't know maybe I I'll be back in a minute but you decide oh we've bored L he's leaving yeah we F he's gotten Jack of us it's taken us almost 500 episodes for him to just be like I didn't watch that show guys [ __ ] off don't care about the staircase or any murder show he's gone pretty fast for someone who has to be on crutches so this is clearly some kind of I always imagined the stairs were right there and he's just jumped down them from my perspective yeah that's right yeah um so I won't spoil it if you don't want to but there are two interesting things

that happen in in this show I probably will watch it I'll yeah okay then I won't spoil it but but if there's something else that you're wondering whether or not they address it it takes them a while something with wings but yes they do yes they do yeah all right yeah because this is after all a who who done it you know that actually my first introduction to the case the the story you know the real life case was a podcast criminal yes phe Jud just about that particular aspect of it which which when you watch the documentary they don't even really mention it because they don't mention it at all because his lawyers said well it's a bit weird we just thought we prob

and it was still pending I think at that point too we just didn't want the jury to have to think about it cuz it's weird so um listeners you can't see this but Luke's camera's on Luke just left the room Luke in all his red bearded Glory just left the room and then moments later a red cat walked in oh and I so I mean I'm not I'm not literally saying that he's yeah a shape shifter but I'm just saying that no one would be surprised yeah that he probably is yeah he's like Mrs mcgonagal that's a Harry Potter reference which one's Mrs mgon speaking of which we've got some got some transphobia news coming up from I yeah well I was going to say I watched something else this week too but I do want Luke to be here when we talk about

it just to prevent us from accidentally getting in trouble no it's it's because Luke becomes strangely conservative at times sure when we're talking about these type of of woke issues um okay and I'm I'm just never quite sure what his stance is going to be because on one hand he's very very reluctant for us to talk about any what's the word uh controversial issues yes yes but then at the same time he'll say things like well from a certain point of view Frank Lela had every right to do what he did and it'll just blow my [ __ ] mind I'm not sure I heard Luke say that but but he didn't say it in those exact words I'm I'm I'm paraphrasing maybe this is half his problem maybe he's like stick to the facts boys while he's uh while we're

still waiting while we just waiting for him um I did want to mention one other thing with obiwan that I feel like you probably spotted as well because it's more of a technical thing is that there's some odd editing in it in particular some odd choices around the the chase in the forest in the first episode oh yes where I was like what is going on who who filmed this and then edited it and went yep that looks good that's convincing yeah these two large men chasing a small girl struggling to keep up that looks convincing to me that was part of the 10 minutes that I had seen when I wasn't sure if I was going to like this um and it reminded me tonally of something more like Zena or Hercules where they just want you to

accept what they're showing you on the screen like she Ducks under a little branch and then the bad guys like oh I can't get through we're [ __ ] yeah yeah and it's like wait what and and they just up with her um just OD if you do that well it it's fine it's only when you let it go I remember when when I was making my feature film The Tail job which you are in if you recall um Brian the co-writer Brian and I were trying to end a Chase sequence um a car chase sequence and we couldn't figure out how to logically end how to logically say the chase will stop now that the pursuant will will let the chase go and so the one of the best chases that I could possibly think of was Raiders Of

The Last Arc Indiana Jones is in a truck Nazis in trucks are chasing him right yeah and there's a whole lot of action and then eventually he gets away do you know how he gets away because I was baffled when I went back and watched this I don't remember the car chasing him skids the chase music stops and is replaced by he got away Style music oh and he just drives away so the C they just tell Cinema language no it does not crash it just stops the chase is over and the and the John Williams beautiful score and and the editing and Spielberg's Spielberg's uh yeah exactly Spielberg's Tri had joh William score your film problem Sol yeah that's right exactly and then no but but to Luke's point we did have them crash because we

were like unless they crash they'll just when the van hits the pole I'm assuming correct that's what we came up with at the end yeah because like when when when a when a I think in car crush a lot of time you would be a lot safe if you just stopped yeah sure like especially theyy to I think all the time slam on the brakes slam on the [ __ ] brakes they will keep going a body in motion yeah exactly we're just talking about the the chase scene in the first episode of Ian where they chase her through the forest and how I thought that was just a little strange did Luke just have to inject himself now I think we're gonna watch him do it live okay right into the dick did you just go to get that so you could do this live yes also I forgot I hadn't done it

yet all right he's got a little needle now Luke only twist it the amount you're allowed to I stab myself it is into the dick this a part I hate yeah I mean stab part right yeah it's the only part of it given your I hate the where I have to shove a piece of metal into me I stab myself and then there's the part I love stopping stabbing myself with this smells did you just what you just smell it yeah the stuff I'm injecting myself with smells it's quite potent like heroin I know oh so Luke um we were going to move on to another topic and I insisted that we wait until you're back because you're

the moral gatekeeper of this podcast and I wanted you to be what did I miss but also because no no no you haven't missed it we haven't started yet so last week we talked I think it might have even been in the Afterparty but I'd love to address this here in the main show this week Ricky jaes an actor and comedian that we've all been fans of in the past I think that's fair to say absolutely has I still am crucified crucified on social media this week for a clip that was posted on Twitter of him criticizing trans women or seeming to criticize research and you got the content making jokes making some negative some fairly negative jokes about them yeah well negative jokes is a hard thing because when I re watched it he actually is saying only good things

about them his language is very carefully chosen so that you can't actually say he's criticized but that wasn't the problem because clearly he was making fun and and I think we all accepted that and and even L you were you were pretty quick to go to the I think he's just gone too far Matt and I wanted proof that there's no context for this and so I went and did the the research I watched the entire show I'll say this I'm a bit over standup comedy in general these days watching an hour of just a guy making jokes I I don't have the stomach for that it's not very good okay you might disagree but I just I don't know if so I've got two things to say number one this is very offensive

from start to finish right so sure if if you watched this and just took away he's a trans fob you didn't watch enough of it because there's one bit where he talks about how he can only ejaculate when he's jerking off if he's imagining baby Hitler's corpse now if you think that is less offensive than him saying there's differences between women and trans women then you you've just got an agenda you know what I mean like you sure you're focusing on something that maybe personally he is trying very hard to be very offensive but but I think what Dan's saying is that's not he didn't just make a bunch of jokes about that he made it's not the Ricky ja hates trans people special right but also before he makes and in fact directly

before he makes the trans joke he makes a statement about how the show will be made up of what he calls ironic humor which is where he says he will tell a joke purposely the wrong way around knowing that you will know what the right way of that joke is you laugh at the wrong bit because you know what the right bit is and I think this does add some context to what he then says I'm going to say one thing fair use fair use yeah well this is fair use because we're journalists here we go welcome to my show uh it's not a show there's no dancers or jugglers it's basically a bloke talking um which is essentially what stand-up comedy is isn't it a bloke talking sexist um what about all the funny female comedians like

um no no no right no no no no no I'm not doing that okay right that was irony okay there's going to be a bit of that throughout the show see if you can spot it okay now that's when I say some I don't really mean for Comic effect and you as an audience you laugh at the wrong thing cuz you know what the right thing is it's a way of starzing attitudes like that first joke I use the oldfashioned sexist Trope that women aren't funny now in real life I know there are loads of funny women like um I did it again well spotted good I I get it but look it it's it's still the joke is still making fun of people's prej that people's Prejudice

but you're not making fun of people Prejudice you're using the fact that people are Prejudiced and that's the joke and the problem is is people who are prejudice they don't take it in context or anything they'll go this person's on my side that this group of people this religion is terrible you are 100% correct but you could also argue couldn't you that those people aren't audience that he's currently talking to what Luke's saying he's talking to people who do know the difference because I would say that's what we did a lot we used to do the same kind of thing a lot what he's what he's describing as particularly is why my wife has told me I'm not allowed to do Foreign Accents anymore because we grew up where people

like would say things like that who weren't joking and we thought it was so ridiculous that it was funny and so we wean it were just that but then yeah I've had explained to me you just sound like you're saying that stuff yeah to to anyone who doesn't know to someone who doesn't know yeah and the people who do hear it who do think like that they think that they see everyone agrees with me yeah so for example we used to get called certain derogatory things when we were young so we would just call each other those derogatory things cuz we were like that's so silly it's funny right yeah yeah but but obviously if you're an outsider you just think we're just calling each other a bunch of fids

exactly yeah correct yeah and not Matt's not going to say the words and neither am I but if you're wondering what they are it's all the worst words you can think of right because we grew up in penth in the 80s and '90s and that's what people used to call callers yeah yeah um so I agree with you Luke and actually as I said before I didn't find this special particularly funny I think that's sort of also working with what I said like this 10 years ago or longer would have been perfectly acceptable but now people have an understanding of the repercussions and what it can do I think that's where the outc that's like I said I've been convinced of that that's why

I've I've made an effort to stop doing like I I mean every now and then I still slip into it I make some stupid joke when I'm talking to you guys in particular because I feel comfortable with you guys and I'll say something and then I'll think can we cut that out cuz it's like it's not funny unless it's you to specifically like yes correct yeah yeah exactly and I think that was Luke's Point as well and that's certainly what H always tells me when she was she's like she's like not everyone is as smart as you and the boys Dan like she thinks I'm smart you can't give everyone the bit Yeah well apparently you are I think she's just trying to make Dan feel better about the fact that oh no my wife does not try to make me feel better about

anything so I think you're oh Luke's got a visitor he does it's got to go back in the fridge oh ah y she knows what would you lucky she's there what would you do without her honestly I'd probably be dead by now you'd be dead he'd be dead no 100% list is listen we've worried that he was we've literally worried we have yeah called his mom we've called his mom and she's like well I thought I thought you guys were talking to him I haven't talked to him so I I think um I think my Takeaway on this is yes there was a context no he's not a bigot but yes it's probably a bit too late for this kind of humor that said I'm sure he would argue that is important to still make fun of these and I've heard other comedians make that as

well Jerry Seinfield famously came out recently it said comedians should be able to make fun of anything they want that's how we kind of keep the comedy going but I've noticed it's only comedians who are saying that the general public aren't necessarily saying oh we want comedians to still push the envelope it's it's only comedians who are disappointed that they can no longer make look I mean I I agree with you Matt I I've spent half my life trying to come up with the worst things to say to make you guys laugh like now now even you guys don't laugh at them so there's no point we've just yeah we've finally come around as well and then uh I mean looks been there for a while that's why mind you you guys know Jimmy

Carr right yes of course yeah so Jimmy Carr does this Great standup special where where he says I'm going to let you judge when I've gone too far so I'm going to start off very very mildly offensive I'm going to escalate the offense and when you stop laughing I'll stop talking and at one point so he's made he makes a holocaust joke and they laugh of course because he's very very clever and in fact he does what Ricky probably wants to do it's it's very obvious what Jimmy car means when he makes satire you know exactly why he's Prim Time television H that's right right but nowhere near as much as the Fallout for sure yeah yeah but the thing is they laugh and he's like okay so the Holocaust is not off limits to you guys

apparently okay now I'll I'll try a pedophile Joe he makes that they laugh he's like okay let's let's ramp it again so there is a there is a space I think for that type of humor but I do agree with L that maybe I mean I didn't find this offensive but I also didn't find I just find because of the internet now people and because people get themselves into Echo Chambers people will take parts of it and go look like this this sort of person sort of is it like they'll take a bit and go look it's okay for us to say this and do this CU this person's doing this as well and sort of justify it to themselves I think cont matters too and it's fairly obvious that it's fairly obvious that right now is not a good time for that topic Hill you [ __ ] die on is like yeah why why'd you go there

like if when the dust settles if you think it's still important to make a joke about it try it then yeah go for it yeah exactly but like why like now you know no no no the problem with the echo chamber you say then go out and say it to others but when they go back and talk to their Echo chamber their Echo chamber in him saying no you've done nothing wrong there is Nuance here to be problematized and discussed but I think Matt's right also when he says now it's just not the [ __ ] time for that topic in particular it's it they're literally trying to figure that out in the real world it's not like you know yeah yeah yeah and we have no there's there's no clear answer to this other than to just let let people have the rights they ask for and see what

happens and if anything NE negative happens out of that which hasn't yet we can deal with that as it comes yeah it's just such a raw nerve it's like you know you he has made you know jokes about you know gay people and that kind of stuff and it's kind of like yeah okay fine like cuz they're okay now you know what I mean well mostly not not everywhere and not everyone I don't mean to imply but like particularly in in the areas we live it's kind of like you know we've all moved on and it's it's more acceptable whereas this is still literally like the battle is going on like and I think in battles culture battles the pendulum has to swing too far the other way before it can settle in the center you know what I mean as I said that I was like it

probably shouldn't say that because I'm almost certainly just not aware that people are still horrible the gay people remember it was only a few years ago in Orlando that that person went in and shut up that gay bar yeah so there you go so even that even on that one I'm I'm I'm inor yeah but that wasn't cuz they were gay I mean that guy that shot up the country western concert in Las Vegas didn't hate people hate like country western music like people are just [ __ ] to each other that's the worst thing know like even in Scotland a lot of like hate crime and people got and Street just to bash people and stuff so it still is a thing it's just Scotland is still very straight white males we don't experience any of this that's true not since the 80s and '90s and even then it

wasn't yeah they were just calling a that name no I know no and you know what I didn't care because I wasn't any of the stupid things exactly it it didn't it hurt us cuz we were being bullied but it didn't hurt us because they were attacking our very absolutely and it was just just calling us a name they weren't following up with what was happening to a lot of other people during that time and getting the [ __ ] kicked out of you yes I I got bashed a couple times but that was mostly because my girlfriend at the time told them that I was going to bash them oh no offense mat but she wasn't the best girlfriend you've had no we wait which one are you talking about oh wait which one are you talking about I'm talking about Nikki oh I just assumed it was that other she went to

Kingswood high and apparently cuz she was you know she was a freak like we were and uh she told a bunch of the the homies at kingsw if they didn't leave her alone I would bash them didn't tell me that and so I I stopped in there to see one day that's quite sweet actually in a way yeah but she should have warned you yeah that would have been nice yeah and so I stopped in there one morning on the way to school say Hi and then as I was leaving the school they bashed me cuz the problem withies is they do stuff in groups what and and I was just me yes yeah so yeah yeah I mean look I was fine but they they they did have well I mean you would have been more fine if they hadn't bashed you yeah yeah exactly

yeah um speaking of bullies um and Star Wars um there is a there is a person of color in this Star Wars as there are in most Star Wars and um as in as in most instances um since in the modern era at least she's getting bullied online which is so I don't understand it I I don't understand it either the only thing I would say about this is that that before this came out I did see a bunch of Articles talking about how she'd been warned that she was going to be bullied and I was like don't print all that [ __ ] [ __ ] like now it's a self-fulfilling prophecy don't give people ideas like it was going to happen anyway people just [ __ ] with not it when did it when did we establish that it should only be white people in Star Wars like no one I'm sure

no one bullied Billy D Williams Wait you you remember when we decided that then it was on this show I reckon Billy D William probably would have CAU some hate back then Ean if he did if there was social media he certainly would now no I just right I don't understand how people's minds work because I watched it and went okay she's playing B inquisitors whereas people have gone oh she's black she's black she's black I know and I'm what didn't even I didn't even think of it it's [ __ ] weird it's weird that you think of that when you watch a show you that person's not the same color there are so many things to notice before you get to that I mean she's got a [ __ ] she's got a laser sword that guy gu green who gives a [ __ ] like [ __ ] off yeah I don't I don't get it

so weird but yeah oh well it's just an excuse just an excuse to be a [ __ ] but who who sits around looking for excuses to hate black people racists I guess I guess I don't know but I don't know it's 2020 man I know like yeah didn't even occur like it didn't even occur the only time I only and I only became aware of it wday actually she came out and she posted some of the stuff she's been getting in you and McGregor came out and went kamonga it's like really yeah yeah yeah I know youan McGregor who's like obv one of the most loved actors in the Star Wars cannon he came out and said if if you're one of the people that has posted racist stuff online I don't consider you a Star Wars fan I think that's if you if you and McGregor said that to me i' I'd be burned you know what I mean

so humor oh that's right did you ask him out or just just actually I met him once too but I mean in Far Far lesser meaningful context than have I met him no I don't think when I met him he was learning it was just as he was Landing uh Star Destroyer or whatever they were calling their Capital ships back then on corusant oh far less far less dramatic then mind you he was on a Harley Davidson when I met him yeah wow well I was cuz I was I was working at Fox Studios I was just a [ __ ] Backlot mon when he was filming Star Wars but um he would he brought his bike him cuz he's a motorcycle Enthusiast so he would just he got in a lot of trouble and he had to fight to be able to ride to work each day cuz they were going Insurance way

riding yeah yeah that's right but also he would just ride around the lot the back lot right um and I was walking with this friend of mine once who I I didn't even know I knew he rode a bike but I didn't know that people who ride bikes know the other people who ride bikes because um Yan was parking his hog and then my mate was like hey Yan and he's like like oh hey Simon how you going and I was like are you [ __ ] serious he's like oh yeah it's KN him from [ __ ] you know bike for being aik they probably yeah I guess so right yeah and he was like oh you got bik nice I like bikes too yeah yeah I did read I read that the actually the the the actress playing rev um apparently cut him off or something on the way to the studio and then she

she cut off someone on a bike and realized and went oh God I hope that guy's not following me cuz she pulled in the studio and it was you and McGregor and she was like oh and then she said he just was like oh good morning didn't say anything do you know I I got followed home by a biky once for cutting him off really yeah In Summer Hill and um cut off this bike I OB obviously didn't mean to and then was very aware he was following me so I pulled up at a parking lot of a wallworth hopefully that has made you become more aware it really has and he and and he pulled up beside me and he got off his [ __ ] bike and he yelled at me MH yeah I and I humbly I humbly took the criticism I don't know if I've talked about this on the podcast before I read an article that was really

fascinating it was about this and it was about how you know when you drive like if you drive to work in the morning sometimes you get to lunch you be like I don't remember driving oh yes that incompetent competent thing that you do stuff you do it on autopilot right and because hum are patent recognition machines so what it said was that the reason more people on bikes get here is not because necessarily people are like [ __ ] you you're on a bike it's because when you pull up to an intersection your mind you got the radio on you're singing along you your brains looks and it goes any cars coming no and then you pull out because your brain and your brain's like oh you didn't say bikes like I wasn't looking for a thing that looks like a I was looking for two headlights I didn't

see two headlights and so that's apparently like like they've done studies where it's like people will literally just say oh I didn't see him and they're not lying their brain just filtered it out proc that someone who rides well I don't ride a motorcycle I ride a scooter because I can't that's a motorcycle it is terrifying when people just pull out in front of you just move yeah yeah yeah I know and I and and I'm I if I hadn't read this article I'd probably be less charitable about it but apparently it's literally just like they're just not looking for you they're looking for a they don't see a car and a lot of people like will complain that oh it's because motorcycles moving in and out of traffic they they sort of we sometimes there are some people who do

that sometimes for the most part we we don't the only time we will do that is at light and it's called Lane filtering and that's when you're stopped you're allowed to do that though yeah yeah but there are people who do I've seen a lot of YouTube videos where people I think in California you're allowed to do that while you're literally driving along a highway which is seems crazy to me hold on hold on before you move on I just want to I just want to make one comment to what Matt said that autopilot that you've just described there's this professor in the 70s called Julian Jane Dr Julian Jane who wrote this immense book called the development of Consciousness in the breakdown of the bamal Mind where he posits that up until a certain point in human development and

he he says it's about 3,000 years ago so there's eons of time before that obviously with human beings he said that was the way we all thought about everything right and that this kind of very very conscious self-aware mind is a very very new Ur a new phenomenon to us that makes sense Yeah so basically the kind of Hunter gather eras it was people going around looking for berries and [ __ ] clubbing or whatever they're doing it's it's all just reacting and if the if you heard a voice in your head you would just assume that it was Spirit of the river talking to you or something you would not know to think that's a thought in my brain you get into like four groups there's incompetent unconscious uh mhm competent conscious incompetent conscious and competent

incompetent UNC where you want to be is competent and conscious but the problem is is like with the driving thing that's where you become competent but unconscious so you know what you're doing sh that is that autopilot thing that you're not thinking about anymore you're not worried about it CU this is just what you do well Matt will know this as a musician if the second you start thinking about where you put your fingers on that fretboard you'll [ __ ] up if you just play sure yeah you'll play as soon as you start going what comes next nah now you're [ __ ] mhm maybe not you cuz you're an excellent guitarist but for me like if I'm in the zone if I'm in the zone Once Upon I still remember one day we're playing a ball game you go wait I've got to just

rehearse from my show you picked up a played like for like 10 seconds went yep all okay I'm ready and then went back to playing the game that just that's just evidence that I'm lazy yeah it doesn't sound like much of a rehearsal M but I've seen your live shows and they were excellent to oh thank you I never have and you never will cuz now I'm old I don't ever [Laughter] been some people don't you know you said if you heard a voice in your head some people don't some people don't have internal di monologue internal dialogue I learned from an article and it's not 50/50 it's it's most I think I think on average most people do like you know you you know when you think about something you kind of have a conversation that does the voice sound like you or does it

not I think it sounds like me but but like you know you know you think in sentences right some people don't they just have they just have abstract thoughts yeah yeah yeah and I was like [ __ ] what's that but also I cannot know how can you explain how you're thinking what's going to someone else it just it's hard to explain that's a fair point yes you've got to you've got a create maybe I don't have what everyone else has and I'm I just think I do yeah I was about to say I bet Ricky jaes doesn't have the the conversation with himself um based on his comedy but then I suddenly remembered one of the Xfm episodes where kyl pilton says to Ricky when you think do you think in your own accent and Ricky was like what the [ __ ] are you talking about [ __ ] and he was like well

I've got a Manchester accent when I talk but I've also got a Manchester accent when I think and Ricky was like you're an idiot and it's just occurred to me maybe Ricky doesn't think in full sentences maybe like obviously I don't always but if I'm like if I stop and I'm having a think about something I will yeah sort of do it in I just keep talking until like what I'm saying I'll start a sentence and it's friend iend I try to stop doing that I had a friend once back in the '90s uh in high school who had escaped from the Yugoslavian war and um basically she had lived in all of the different countries that represented the the former Yugoslavia and she spoke Slavic and Bosnian and Russian and and Croatian and

all of these different things right to the point where she didn't have a native language she just spoke but I her what language do you think and she had consider it she could and eventually she was like Russian I was like huh there you go that's interesting and also what does she her dream on what you said Luke about how you just keep talking until you fig things out I think I tend to do that too and it's one of the things I I want to I wish I could stop was just talking too soon before I've F especially you know in a work situation or something I'm too eager to start talking before form and one of the things I worked with a guy in syney who one of the things that I was like this gu's [ __ ] rad because if you asked him a question he

would just stay silent sometimes for like minutes at a time yeah until he had something say until he knew exactly what he wanted to say and then he would just say that and I was like [ __ ] that's awesome you know who would I agree with that he just he just he just like it's an enviable quality just yeah exactly you know we've got in common with the flat earthers they don't think they they'll ask a question and someone will go to explain it and they'll be one sentence in and you know the explanation is going to be like we need to explain this it's not just a onew answer but they'll say one sentence and then they quickly straight well no no but you got to think of this now they have to back up if you stop and listen to the full explanation I can explain it

oh I definitely do that because I am incredibly reactionary so if you start saying something I'll start talking in fence before you've even got your the thing is you may what they may say you may actually be about to agree with but because you're not waiting for it and now I've ruined it because I've already turned it into an argument but back to bikes I watched a movie that involved go on go on bike movie Tom Cruz on a bike Top Gun oh Maverick oh yeah one thing wait you watch the new one oh actually quite good it's just yeah I want to watch this it's it's fun it's a modern day 80s movie like it's

and it even goes back to the original Top Gun like you're just fighting generic enemy it's the same here we're fighting generic enemy could be I think it's I think it's I think it's Russia in the first the first one they don't say who it's implied they just say Bogies they say a bunch of guys in migs wink yeah right well the fair enough but no but I'll hammer your sickle generic enemy the one thing I found quite weird was he was riding he's riding his motorcycle doing the whole thing where Chase jet but just riding it around in general no helmet and I just that stuck out to me then it's then it's not Tom Cruz mate hang on you haven't spent enough time in America if you think if you think that's unusual really nobody on a bike wears a [ __ ] helmet

here and it it's like Bing to me terrifying asri say nobody I have friends who ride who ride who do wear helmets but I see so many people like driving down the [ __ ] highway at 100 mph on a highley singlet [ __ ] shorts thumbs no helmet [ __ ] just cruising I all the time I just don't understand that there's no laws I know try and try and enact a law go on dare you yeah the laws we've got will fight to the death over but the ones that you think are relevant now [ __ ] off oh they want to take my guns away and put a helmet on me that's interesting Luke that you say that because I that's a movie about planes obviously arguably but but you still have to have Tom Cruz on a motorbike and I watched Days of Thunder last week which is a movie about cars

arguably but he still rides onto the NASCAR track on a motorbike I think he's just one of like no helmet he looks [ __ ] good on a bike and if you want to get him in there just put him and you wouldn't put a helmet on but I will say like the Top Gun it's pretty good they do I always wondered like how they're going to make out that he's still in the Navy because and they s the story that they went with sort of I think explained it well he was still in the Navy still a pilot it's just a captain cuz he was a test pilot cuz he doesn't want the responsibilities he doesn't want to go up so say Lev and a test pilot would sort of make sense because well we're not going to send this old guy to war or anything and or active duty so yeah yeah

you're not Frontline he can risk his life flying these new planes and yeah but no I recommend watching it it's a but I hope they don't go back and TR do sequ to a lot more' 80s movies I just just because this one worked doesn't mean others will oh right they almost certainly will now probably are already yeah yeah I was going to say several just entered development you want to know an interesting fact about the Singaporean Air Force don't in Singapore they have mandatory military service right sure so you turn 18 you do two years in the military and then you do I think it's a month a year until you're 40 right yeah a lot of European countries do that too yeah yeah actually there are some some some pros to it and now that I wouldn't have to do it

because I'm too old I might even vote to bring it in but uh but when you join and you have to join you get to choose whether you do Army Navy Air Force whether you do intelligence whether you do mil military police and I say choose but you you get coached to where you should how much ofice get yeah and there's more than others yeah exactly well actually probably is a bit like that um if you are Malaysian or Indonesian by Heritage you are not allowed to join the Air Force because the air force is the first line of defense in a war if it was to break out the Air Force go in first and Singapore knows that even though they're

py Wellies with all of their neighbors in southeast Asia if they were going to go to war with anyone it would probably be Malaysia or Indonesia for whatever reason right so no Malaysians or Indonesians are allowed to join the Air Force just in case they like turn the plan just in case correct yeah right or don't want to fly or whatever sure yeah yeah yeah or just hang back and shoot at you wingman yeah yeah yeah any number of undesirable uh scenarios now to to be clear they've never been at war with either of those two countries complete peace treat they're just being practical well pragmatic that yeah and there's yeah pragmatic is is is the way to describe literally everything that happens in Singapore so that doesn't make sense if

something happens in Singapore there is a reason for if anyone pretty much if anyone was sort of going to evade it's either going to be those neighbors or don't be aware of it because their neighbors have already been invaded that's yeah cuz the Japanese have come down again through Malaya likely the last time just brief talking about cars and stuff I put in under the under car news which is a we have car news as a segment yeah yeah yeah go down no look this is a car that Luke expressed I want this car I've seen now do you want this version this does look a little different and it is an e car as well right this is the new DeLorean it's an electronic it is very pretty yeah it looks cool looks cool yeah I I want this car wi doors as they

call them all right okay that's what I wanted to know it does look enough like the old DeLorean that you could still say it's a DeLorean sure but it looks very very contemporary doesn't it it's I would argue that the Cyber truck looks more like the old DeLorean I would say the same thing too oh man I saw that there's another uh another camper add-on for the Cyber truck that is just ridiculous it basically just goes straight up so you got a couple of stories when you go camping yeah yeah yeah I guess you sleep at the top of your kids down there and then a little kitchenette or something I'm interested to find out how much the DeLorean would cost DeLorean more than so this just a concept but they've released some um you know some images oh yeah I mean these

are pre-rendered real um and then you know like these kind of like blueprint looking and they are sort of taking you can sign up to sort of be notified when they've got more information and exactly and yeah so number one this will this will come to Australia if at all years from now oh absolutely maybe Never B it will be prohibitively expensive um yeah I would say so it's sort of not like I could couldn't easily buy but like about 100,000 in austr you can get a decent electric vehicle it's not impossible really they that much oh yeah yeah the the the cheapest Tesla is over 100 Grand Matt for sure cuz I was looking at um you know we talked the other week about the cybertruck versus the you know the new electric Silverado the the Chevy and

then the other day I forget why I ended up on uh cuz Ford's got the new F-150 which is electric and I'm just looking on here now that's 40,000 starting at 40,000 all electric oh I know why I looked because I was watching that rust valley restorers and somebody had the new electric Mustang and I was like how much are those they're 43 and um I was like which still sounds cheap to me because I'm from Australia yeah I was about to say that's about 70 or 80 grand Australian any anyway right to begin with that's fair and and that would be 100 here because I'll tell you and the other thing about the the electric Mustang It's actually an SUV which is [ __ ] weird yeah like Ferrari have an SUV coming do they yes now now
