Kickstopper: Yogscast Kickstarter Collapse & Dawn of the Planet of the Apes

I'm gonna rip you D Fu that is terrifying oh that's a new intro welcome to multiple nerdgasm your destination for all things nerdy welcome back well we're late as always uh I'd apologize but once again you guys do nothing for us so uh I don't feel like I ow anything mhh that's a solid intro indeed yeah indeed so without further Ado let's not at all like intros of previous podcasts no let's uh consistency Dan that's what the audience wants okay they want consistency we're giving them that I don't know I've long since given up on working on what they want I don't care about them I think if they listen to us talk every week we definitely don't know what

they want every week that's a bit generous but all right all fine no I assume when when I think implying that they might give multiple listens to every Tri Weekly podcast that we bring out yeah that's what I'm saying if there a week we don't put one out I assume they just go back and listen to them you know all over again from the start yeah more insufferable punishment I can't possibly imagine um speaking of insufferable uh you guys familiar with the yogs cast yeah I'm familiar with the yogs cast so basically these guys ESS got famous Dan by doing Minecraft videos um not allting yeah they they did World of Warcraft videos first that's how they they got known mhm yeah yeah so it's just as exciting as you imagine anyway

they raised a Kickstarter to develop a game um two guys who have no game experience no experience within the industry in which they were building the game and um but let me guess they're popular so tons of nerds gave them money yeah $500,000 and they lost it all [ __ ] well in in somewhat in their defense I mean I I do think they bid off way more than they could chew because they were trying to to get back at Notch um for something that I'll mention I'll I'll reveal later was that that slight not mine con oh okay yeah so the mine con not you know like Mojang organized mine con and apparently allegedly you know like I wasn't there I don't know them whatever apparently the yogs cast guys were to be at minec con and there was a bit of

drama about it because apparently the yogs cast guys were a bit too big for their boots and were demanding this and demanding that and they wanted to be paid for this and that and no one else there it was being paid cuz it was just like a fun thing and and there was some bad blood and Lewis Brinley one Member One of the the two founders of Ys cast is Simon and Lewis are the two main guys Lewis apparently said something about not um should shut up and learn how to run a company or something like that and so I think there was a bit of bad blood there and so yog's cast were to build uh what do they call it um yog Adventures which was to be a like a mctish creation World adventure game thing and they were going to you know make their own game yeah sounds easy to

build yep cool so they got six guys apparently six guys a company called winter cool from from La spell kwl sounds reputable yeah sounds that's a brand new company who' never made anything before but we're allegedly senior members of various other game development houses okay uh and all I should say all the um people involved I think are unnamed at this time except for the main guy the person who ran the company um but yeah apparently uh every there were six of them and they were individually promised $32,000 each and the rest of the money was going to go to various other things right with with $100,000 of it going to a senior programmer who would be the person who actually had to make the game

right that person um never existed he was never hired apparently they couldn't find anyone because they'd spent the money H and one of the artists in particular again they haven't named him but apparently everybody was paid $32,000 in advance with no contracts or anything with no contracts y cont people who know how to run a company yeah yep and and then one guy one of the artists two weeks later said well I'm going to work for LucasArts so I'll see you later well that's funny cuz LucasArts don't exist anymore yeah but that the artist that I really think they should name cuz he accepted the the contract which didn't stipulate anything it basically said here's $32,000 please make our game yeah Y and then he but and because Lucas Arts won't let him work

elsewhere he went sorry I've got this job that's going to pay me a lot more by you think maybe give back some of the money well he's not obliged to no and uh I'm just a nice person and if this happened to me I wouldn't keep it I would give not all of it I would too Luke you know what nice people get Luke nothing well they certainly don't get $32,000 do they Dan no they do not so after that debacle uh apparently Lewis from yogs cast said that he had no confidence in their ability to run a company this is winter call and he demanded that they sign all of the money that was left wasn't he running their company no no no yogs cast on behalf like winter cool so they they they farmed this out to someone else yeah this this company called say their

name like it's red winter cool thank you were running this thing right and Yogscast kind of gave them the license to use their name and everything and said this you guys are making this game for us so and there it's kind of a bit gray to be honest because like I said after that Lewis said to them uh I don't believe that you can do this I don't believe you can you know how to run a company sign all the money over to us so that we can keep an eye on this because this is ridiculous and so all the rest of the money that was left $1 something, was transferred to Yogscast and is apparently now gone and all gone where well all they've said is all the money that was given for the

project was spent on the project and he doesn't feel obliged to to tell to say where it went at this time well look you're you're not under an obligation to actually deliver on a Kickstarter no it implies in the tnc's that all you have to do is make a decent attempt at it yes but that said usually people who are starting kickstarters are either filmmakers who have got everything lined up and they just need some cash or game developers who have got everything in place and they just need the money not people that just have a wish and want to hire somebody else to do something for them this is what happens if you give two 15year old kids $500,000 these guys are [ __ ] [ __ ] I think LS is like in his mid-30s and Simon no no no I no they're not they're

not business well but have they made an actual genuine attempt they gave away Money for Nothing from what I understand from what yeah no I'm winter cool winter cool definitely negligent I think Lewis from what I understand even Lou Brinley is is um quite quite intelligent and it's it's he's the brains of Yogscast and he he does all the business stuff he just lost 500k so he can't be that brain again no no no in his defense they lost the money for him yes he was like the project manager of this right if I have $500,000 Matt I would have been in their office every day sitting next to them yeah no exactly right like if you are commissioning someone to do something you are [ __ ] on that you don't just give the money and go just give this out to whomever you think you want don't

bother with contracts or anything and I'm certainly not going to be on your ass about that it gets worse then they're 2 years late on delivering oh yeah this happened in 20 2012 the this all was funny can we all just agree now that Kickstarter was a failure you know me for so many reasons no no no but there a lot of good stuff comes out of Kickstarter but then you've got stuff like this and then you've got that um did you see the guy the cartoonist who was going to make the book it was um I we talked about this once uh on the podcast very descriptive the guy with the B it was comics for sad children or something like that the guy who chucked an Nani because people kept asking him where the book was and he and then he posted a picture of him burning them all

and said [ __ ] you all you're not getting them oh wow and I'm not giving the money back and like literally every time somebody he said every time someone sends me an email asking where they are I will post a video of me burning more of them wow wow that's bitter that's so yeah that that was a that was a success yeah he said yeah I think he said I've got no money leave me alone [ __ ] crowdfunding what a waste H God yeah so no yast game and uh well I'm sure it would have been great and I'm sure the world's really at a loss for not having the yast game well the other thing we know if there's actually anything that they could release no there's they never got a developer no all the all the the assets and things that they did managed to cuz I mean it

was two years so they they just paid designers to come up with designs for [ __ ] they paid them tens of thousands of dollar but there is no actual game yeah they got they got they got someone to do all the art design essentially yeah yeah so three three artists got paid $30,000 each to come up with awesome Stu maybe they could just send people the book so they can flick through it pretend can I say one more thing about yast before we move on I'm sorry oh please they've done something else that I didn't I didn't think to put in here um around the same time that all this came out about the um the yog ventures the yog ventures gate um was it also no I just made that up I just coined that yeah um also they also announced a thing that they're calling

yog Discovery cuz cuz they're [ __ ] idiots yeah but it's it's a a premise where a a game developer pay uh says to Yogscast we would like you to make videos about our game so for example the first game that is doing this is uh Space Engineers which um I've I think I've played Luke I think you've played it I haven't played it I just Luke gave me a copy I don't think I've installed it okay well that's the first game that's part of this thing and basically the way it works is um the people the developers making Space Engineers say to Yogscast we'd like you to make some videos about the game and in return for that yog cast based on the increase in sales after their videos come out get a percentage of the sales of the game that

is yeah that is a an a flexible business model that's okay but but it's pretty weird right because I can kind of see how that sort of makes sense cuz if they're driving people to buy the game but on the other hand like they're not the only people making videos about games and that kind of many subscribers on YouTube they have very hard to attribute they have millions sales to one specific event though as far as I know Dave their videos get hundreds of thousands of views always that's my they do of course they used they used to anyway can someone watch someone else play Minecraft I can't think of anything more insufferably dull Simon is very funny I'm already playing Minecraft yeah so like that got old pretty quick mhm I still

think about going back and making a new server if you make a server I'll come on but I don't like playing it on my own yeah let's just make videos and then we'll charge not money for for that for arbitrarily saying well some of those sales us I just think it's so weird I don't know why Developers I can see how they would agree from the point of view of of like trying to get generate more sales but it just seems such like a weird like a weird thing think if your sales are so [ __ ] that you're just like well this isn't going to hurt anything so we may as well I suppose if it does if it does boost sales then fine it's essentially advertising without paying for the advertising up front which yeah and you got to look there are that many Indie developers out there now that you

do need to get your name out there somewhere yeah it's a noising Internet advertising it's expensive stupid [ __ ] to do videos of your game yeah one of the how do they how do they say Okay so the video comes out we sell 10 more units in the couple of days after that video you get 10% of this like is that yeah I think I think that's how it works how you quantify that well one of the things that people and you know total biscuit he's another YouTuber who plays who does makes videos himself talking about play games total he was spot on with his his shock review he was just as [ __ ] pissed off at as I I like total bis I like total biscuit he got cancer at the moment poor guy has he yeah there you go well he said and I thought this was a valid point um I just want to

point out that Matt doesn't care about cancer apparently I do care about cancer got cancer does he anyway moving on I'll send him a message what am I to talk about that do you what kind of answer is it Dave how about you a little bit passion man all right should we get him on to talk about his cancer we have one person to talk about cancer on this podcast that seat is taken that's right yes back off Turtle biscuit right but anyway he said that yogs cast are Trend Setters so therefore if they make a video about a game chances are all the little kids on YouTube are going to start making their videos about it like if if they do it everyone's going to do it and so it's this weird situation where how do they actually attribute which sales are for yast hold

on hold on I just want to finish this thought I just want to finish this thought so if Simon sucks off his offsider Y and puts it on YouTube y then all these little 15-year-old kids are going to do the same thing is that is that other off yeah they'll suck Le us off too yeah right just and they're just riding this wave of SPO yeah that's right and somebody in a corporation goes well who do we pay for this we can't pay Simon for every [ __ ] that happened after that we can really only play him for the initial ones but it was him that inspired all these little boys to blow it but the other thing is and this is true as well what do you mean as well even if even if as well as all the kids sucking each other off fact also fact um

even if the Yogscast make a video and then all these other people start making videos because Yogscast did did that still kind of gives them some credit for those sales in a way no I I see I see I see the logic but I also see how that and unless there's a direct like th% uptake it might be hard to quantify but yeah yeah I mean well and also I mean if Yogscast put a video up the same week that they changed something in their marketing then all they're going to do is argue oh no no no I think it was our new promo that did it not your uh not your video well yeah the people the developers are going to have to be careful about that kind of [ __ ] I guess yeah if you running a TV ad don't do it the same time as Yogscast are putting out a video because they're not going to

care no like you're just going to have to pay him well you know what this reminds me of apparently uh is a kind of reversal of this because uh somebody is suing a game uh company right now for royalties Because he believes he's contributed to the sales of the game um right and that's 80-year-old former um Panamanian dictator Manuel noraga um and he's currently suing Activision Blizzard uh because of his inclusion in the Call of Duty Black Ops 2 uh well I played Black Ops 2 and want a piece of that puzzle yeah as as far as I know Nora is still in prison so I I don't know what his lawyer doing lawy should be focusing on getting him out of prison but okay whatever well he's got a lot of time in there and B well Hobbies it was a propped up Dictator by the US

the US invaded and uh put him in prison cuz he wasn't playing ball yeah in operation just cause so there you go but um Black Ops has made over a billion dollars and um he believes that some of that money uh was due to his inclusion in the game well if that's the case the kennedies are owed some some money so the were fans bought it not because they like Call of Duty but because they just wanted to to support him yeah mat as soon as I heard was in the game I was lining up at the shops I was like I was like nor is in uh he was actually released in 2011 well there go yeah he currently resides in hospital he plays he plays C blops all day he plays Cod every day he just plays Cod blops yeah

from his Hospital cops too man you're in a game what you're in a you're in a computer game what you don't come off very well apparently he's an old Englishman rck um yes so there's that that's uh that's actually the first bit of interesting video game news I've heard in a long time so there you go oh [Laughter] sorry justed in Anger we're 30 minutes in yeah I know I've been talking for about half an hour now and then I'm sorry never mind I'm sorry I have different I have different interests all right fine I'm joking I don't give a [ __ ] all right so um the any update on watch Doge you boys oh [ __ ] I've given up on it yeah I

stopped playing unfortunately so did you finally work out it's a [ __ ] game a bit so let me just ask why why did you both give up I haven't played the game myself I my Xbox and PS3 are in a [ __ ] shipping container God knows where so sorry you want you want to follow that up with some explanation you've moved right it's not some big mystery yeah they're not in a shipping container God knows where they got up in the morning and there was packed up in your garage right no it's in a shipping container the company still has it I don't know where it is or where it's stored so they didn't ask for the address they just drove off I'm paying them for the storage I just don't know where it's stored right

okay sure oh Jesus so de you gave up look I think Luke played it first yeah I've played it and finished it I think before anyone else even played it yeah that sounds about right yeah I didn't there was no real gameplay to it everything was all the miss exctly the black screen is it just a black screen look boot up the game and it says watch Doge you put the game in yeah I thought I could just hack it to get it to work no I just found that every level or sorry level every mission was exactly the same drive here hack this drive there that as exciting as it seemed like it should be like it when I was thinking about it I'm like man that's great and then I actually playing it I'm like I am

really so just not terribly that interested I guess second you work out the formula for fighting with killing everyone where it's just hide shoot that guy hide shoot that guy the game just loses all fun it's it's really quite boring and you don't feel like it should be like it looks great and it's you know kind of a cool world and you really want it to be more interesting than it is yeah I didn't find myself bored it's just average but even just things like the internal logic of the game just just didn't quite sit well with me I mean unless I'm doing something wrong I was doing a mission and then suddenly they'd be like H cops are looking for suspects and I be all right fine I'll just pull over here and hide and then they know where I am I'm like how you [ __ ] know

where I am I'm a [ __ ] hacker like if I'm hiding in a garage somewhere with the lights off yeah you shouldn't be able to scan for me okay so watch do uh [ __ ] house yeah well I just you know like the when I first loaded up and the you saw the game World it was so big and there all these things to do and then after I don't know a few hours I realized they were all EX exactly the same thing over and over again and so I was like well I'm going to ignore the um side quests and then I started doing the main quests and I realized well it's just more of that stuff like there's no variation or had a lot of potential but it's just missing something it's just all a bit average I think they focus too hard on you know making the map an exact replica of Chicago and all of this

attention to detail maybe attention to gameplay would have been better them better things like things like you know when you go into you know like the the you hack into the main frames right which is to unlock each area right and when you finally get into one when you you go into the um the tower things and you can look at the videos of the surveillance so you can see what they've been recording you know you you can play back those videos yeah well that's all pointless yeah there was no point doing that at all it was interesting I found sometimes but I didn't think it was interesting actually I thought I was like I'm going to do this in case there's a point to it and then as it went on and on and on and it was just

never ever came up like I don't know I just but even little things I like even one of the first missions right you're in a stadium you use your phone to hack into the system you set the um the lights all off so you can escape right but if cops see you you know they'll shoot you why what what have I got that makes them think I had anything to do with that I'm just a dude leaving this place like everyone else yeah you know what I mean like it makes no sense you never met a cop before obviously shoot everybody I'm at a ball game the lights go out so let's just shoot everybody so um I I do recall Dan you uh did you give up on Diablo I did you ever finish it I I never started it I was I was so looking forward to it coming out

you guys will got it before me I decided I wasn't going to play it because no one had anything good to say about it but then recently I was uh I picked it up for about 30 bucks and I thought remember I told you about the patch it fixed most of the problems yeah but I got it on um 360 oh better so I've been playing on the Xbox this week really enjoying it look I love it and it's um I mean look I'm not invested in it like I was in diabl I cuz diabl 2 I [ __ ] loved and I gave so much time to that game um this one I'm just it's it's pretty simple it's not too difficult you kind of kind of just pick it up from where you left off play for a bit you know it's pretty addictive cuz it's kind of easy to play and I'm just enjoying it so I liked it how badly

can blizzard not tell us story like like how bad is the dialogue in that game though like how bad is it it's it's embarrassing it's like they got a 14-year-old fantasy like author from like never done anything he just likes reading fantasy books I'm like let's give him a run let's let him write a dialogue you know yeah it's a bit paint by numbers it is but it is what it is and you know it's bit of fun yeah I enjoyed it I've played through it I haven't played through it yet I think I've played through it and then I played through one night with Matt and Dave and I played it well you didn't have it yeah well I've got it now yeah but you've got it on Xbox you've it on PC with us I would have preferred to have the console

version because I wouldn't be stuck online all the time with the lag oh awful yeah I wondered about that so it doesn't need uh you it doesn't require you to be online at all it does not no not at all that's that's an improvement yeah yeah unbelievable well speaking of improvements mhm Microsoft have now released and started selling as I understand it the um the Xbox one without the connect thank [ __ ] so it's being sold now and they've noticed I don't understand that I thought it needed the connect to run we'll get to that apparently sales have doubled not surprised now that now that people don't have to buy the connect but is that just du to the connect or the price yeah it could be the price drop as well firstly it was

overpriced second the connect is stupid and useless and doesn't work properly correct um and well here's my question can I unplug it now and when I I haven't tried this I mean it's pretty it pretty easy for me to figure it out the pron they cut the price and the people are buying them now is because Halo Master Chief Edition is coming out soon yeah that's why everyone bought wouldn't they wait and buy it then nope people are impatient but it's not going to make the game come out any FAS so can I unplug my connect now I could just go and try this I suppose but I haven't yet so will my anything about that well cuz I haven't I don't think I've got any updates lately on to the machine or am I am I but it it only be a a software update right I mean the machines that are shipping now

without the connects are not different Hardware right they're just they will still you'll still be able to go and buy a connect later one will mine function without one or is is there some kind of Hardware requirement on in my Xbox no no of course not you'll get a software update but what surprises me man is can you really not use the Xbox without it plugged in you couldn't before are you serious like you couldn't it would like you couldn't use your Xbox Am I Wrong it wouldn't boot up sign you in right I never tried I never tried to be honest my understanding was that if you didn't have it plugged in it wouldn't boot up so I just never really yep go on off you go all right are are you serious you want me to do this yeah I'm serious I want to know go we could sit about we could sit here

right so I tried to find it took me a little bit to find the right cable but eventually I unplugged the connect turn the Xbox on and it booted up fine it has a little icon in the top corner and it says connect is disconnected but everything seems to work I launched uh guac just to see if it would launch a game and it did okay so we can learn one of two things from this either yes it does now work without the connect or you could have juston disconnected it all along so um I uh I read a little something the other day about uh Amazon's doing the Kindle unlimited thing with uh with books they are it's like Netflix but for books yeah it's in the US we can't get here yeah it's in the US now I'm sure it'll come over here but uh yeah it's 10 bucks a month and

you have access to not all of the books that they have you have up to I think there's like there's 600,000 of them that are part of it oh well what if I read all the 600,000 well it's not so much that it's just that I kind of want to make sure that the kind of I don't know it just frustrates me when it's not all of them you know seems like a lot though it it does but like you know like I guess is your question right yeah exactly and then is is there a long list of things that I do want to read that aren't on there and that might be a problem because I'm still going to have to pay for them on Kindle anyway if I want to read them or go to Italy yeah you can just go to Italy man or go to Italy anyway knowledge should brother they have um Italy Unlimited on uh on

the internet already yeah they do you go pretty soon no nothing will cost anyone anything and no one will be earning any money that's right and nothing will be getting made yep y That's right it'll be a vacuum a cultural vacuum we'll just be all sitting around downloading nothing for free yep but somebody said um what happens you know if everybody starts using Kindle unlimited what happens you know when JK Rowling makes the next Harry Potter and she and you know it's it's not a success because everyone's already paying the $10 and then somebody else said I thought is quite apt mhm who gives a [ __ ] if JK Rowling makes more millions of [Music] dollars sorry check that person's handle and see if it's JK Rollings like exactly because there's only one person who

would care about that what about JK Rawlings cuz the first the comment was like oh you know how what what happens you know people like JK Rawlings when they F the next album the next album next um book and it's not a success like it was before and then someone else said oh sorry all the other authors will have to share in the money yeah oh yeah well can I just be can I just play devil's advocate for a minute here now sure I'm I like to read but um at my most voracious I mean I would read a book every two weeks sure so this is $9.99 a month and with my life I could probably get through two books in the time I have to read a month yeah I I would I read between two and four a month I think but I wouldn't read more than that I don't think it wouldn't

really be feasible right how much is the average book e book now an average book or a quite a good book I think it depends about $10 I would say okay so you're saving $10 a month yeah that's true as long as you in that 600,000 you can find something you want to read yeah yeah yeah I see where this is going I see where this is going yeah look I mean look you're right though it all comes down to is this cheaper than you're currently paying I mean it was the same thing with Spotify everyone's like $10 a month but like if you buy more than one album a month this is way cheaper and I got to say I have Spotify now I pay for Spotify Premium and I like it is [ __ ] awesome and if if there happens to be an album that's not on

there well chances are I'm probably not going to listen to that now because see I don't like Spotify cuz I I just listen to the same 50 albums over and over again probably until I die so well then it's probably not for you but for me just to be able to on there right I have a playlist of stuff and I listen you know I listen to stuff and then every now and then I go a click on the Discover tab in Spotify and it comes up and says here's the stuff you've been listening to here's some other stuff that's like it that you might like and I go through and I listen I go oh I do like that add that to the playlist add oh I'll add that as well yeah exactly yeah yeah oh the new Christine regular is that yeah good yep uh it's great I

really enjoy it and they get more money than they would if I just downloaded everything so yep yeah any system would get more money than if you stole it no that's what I'm saying that's what I'm saying like don't they get 0.00005 cents or something like that's probably more than they get off an the same argument same argument applies you won't have Superstars like people raking in millions and millions of dollars just for [ __ ] out an album every year like you do now like that won't happen in the world of Kindle unlimited for example JK rolling would have to would have to just be an author like all the other authors are authors and hopefully just make a living right like I'm fine with her having to do that to be honest also while we're talking about this and

we're talking about documentaries that you should watch I keep championing this one and I'm sure I've mentioned it on the podcast before but it's called press pause play and it's basically about this exact thing but right across the media so books music films etc etc and basically how things given away for free on the internet can actually end up making you more money than the things you're trying to charge for book or a so fascinating watch press pause play check it out we should put that in the show notes cuz I would uh be delighted to watch that you can actually watch it all uh the whole thing for free on Vimeo Doom four it's not going to be called Doom four is it no it's not isn't it but that's what everyone's calling it it's

it going to be called Rage 2 no it's going to be called Doom I see is a reboot is it is it a gritty reboot oh my God is it gritty wow um it must be so good though because they refuseed to post a video online um and they only showed it to people at qu Kong well let me just give you the general text Adventure yeah it's using it idtech 6 which is the latest engine um even though John comic's not working at ID anymore um basically uh if you guys have played Brutal Doom it's literally just Brutal Doom but with really really good graphics I call it broom y all right so uh it's basically just Brutal Doom uh lot of blood and gore you can you know head stomp things curb stomp stuff uh rip things in half of the

Chainsaw the shotguns basically blow off Limbs and stuff it's it's uh pretty Uber violent which uh kind of fights my boat I'm actually uh I've got my fingers crossed for this one I'm sure it's just going to be a standard by the Numbers find the key open the door kind of situation even though the keys seem to be severed hands in this instance but um cool yeah yeah I'm looking forward to it I uh uh I know it's going to be [ __ ] but uh we could always hope yeah what are you going to get it on PC God okay I just thought I'd ask although another two years or something so you know who knows but uh Luke um I don't think the Destiny Beta is available on the xbone yet is it not yet it comes out next week I believe how

do I get in on that Beta key no I do not I'm going to try and get one of those I'd like to like to check that out well I've I've been reading some uh impressions of it and uh some people are saying it's going to be the best game ever which I'm like yawn and then I read a really great article best game ever H sounds [ __ ] yeah cuz it's just hyperbole it can't possibly be yeah um I read an article on Destructoid which is probably the only decent game journalism website left um and yeah he was basically saying yeah it's a bungee game Sorry apart from our website yeah yeah it's a bunch of games got great graphics looks fun it's not the next big step that everyone was expecting it's pretty much uh what you would expect um don't get too excited

it'll be great all right so if you like games about space and made by Bungie then check it out if not Peter Dinklage dies at the end [Laughter] if he does I apologize I just made that up oh speaking of dying a lot um did you try Dark Souls man I did I've tried to play it before and uh me too me too I tried to play it on PC for a bit and I was like no I don't know about this and then uh I was talking to um Phil Duke who is who no doubt listening that's why I started playing it that's why I started playing it Phil Phil and thank you for wasting two hours of my life in a frustrating and horribly dingy ugly horrible Graphics terrible controlled environment I don't understand why people put themselves

through this game I really don't yeah I tried to Play It Again hours in it was free on the Xbox with Gold Games with Gold that's why I got it yeah I got it how I got it I haven't played it yet I sat down the like last week and I was like I want to play something else I'm like oh Dark Souls I'll give it another shot on the Xbox see if I enjoy it more kind of sitting on the couch no I I wanted to throw the [ __ ] controller across the room so many times and I was like you know why am I doing this it's ridiculous yes that's exactly what I was asking myself when I was just wandering around getting killed by skeletons and then I was like is it just me I I just [ __ ] and then I looked it up and everyone was like basically you need to learn what all the fights are going to

be before you can get past areas who has time for that that's what I was like I'm like no no I no no that's not for me like yeah so should I try it yeah go on tell us um and next week you can tell us um sorry in four weeks you can tell us um how bad it was it just it looks so promising right because you started up and it looks are you putting this on Luke's uh open-ended competition where he has to get to the end of games sh yep yeah yeah sure I'm pretty sure that if I played it for 6 hours I'd probably really enjoy it but the problem is it's not fun enough I don't think I would get hours I I hated it playing it for one hour but I'm sure if I wasted half a day on it see I don't think I some games that are slow Burns and they can really

impress you as you move through but it if it doesn't grab me at the start a lot of the times I just won't have the patience to work through it my problem with it is slow bur or Rose bur Can it can it be both can it be both my problem with it is you'd like to burn Rose Burn slowly yes we all we've all heard what he'd like to do to Rose Ben if you want you know what why don't we why don't we hear it again I would take that and I would and I would juicy wet and as I'm I would and jam it whoa whoa delicious and then why is that happening hold on this is what you want

to do to Rose Burn and then as she why you you wait wait let him finish yeah so as as or take my hands and so tightly into and then I I take my explode what once they fell out of it yeah yeah yeah that's and that's uh that's the things I would do to Rose B and um yeah so that's that again sorry that's uh that's things I did rose rose if you are listening write in and um let us know what you think of that that segment but my problem with dark souls is when I play a role playing game come back to haunt me one day I just know it I'm sure it is yeah yeah she was going

to go out with you but uh my problem with dark souls is when I play a role playing game I like to kind of get immersed and chill out and you know wander around the world and that kind of thing but Dark Souls demands that you be [ __ ] aware that it's a game and punishes you for becoming too kind of complacent I guess like if you get too into it and and chilled and having fun that kind of thing it will punish you by by murdering you pissing on your corpse and then making you repeat this a massive section of the game over and over again that's what really got to me I'm like I don't have time to go back through this I really don't I'm not doing it yeah I was okay I was I was dealing with it at first and then it got to a point where I

got past the first dungeon and I was outside and then I got went fought through for [ __ ] ages and got through all these skeletons and [ __ ] and got to got like further into a new area and then died and it took took me right back to the beginning of after I'd finished the first dungeon and I was like goodbye I'm never playing you again yeah that's right you were getting deleted off my Xbox yeah so I don't know it's not it's not for me I can see why some ssts would consider that fun enough for him to actually go and make a sequel and after Phil's brutal brutal performance in bleed through I can see why he would enjoy that yeah yeah good point good point yeah so I I I pretty much gave up on everything I'm just playing through XCOM again for the 50 billionth

time I've been playing some FTL actually recently I've gone back to that I want to get into that man is it um is it complicated or no absolutely not no not at all it's not but it it it like if you try and zip through it it'll it'll it'll [ __ ] you like it's um youve you've got to take your time at the beginning like jumping through the Galaxy because you haven't played it at all do you know anything about it no okay so the premise is that you're you're in a ship and you're trying to escape um I think it's the rebels in this case the rebels of the bad guys um Rebels are always bad guys Man true and you learn that when you get older your ship is being pursued by their Fleet and you've got to jump through uh a series of six or seven galaxies um which are randomly generated

and you have kind of Random Encounters and battles and in each Galaxy galaxies yeah Galax sectors sectors so cuz like galaxies are pretty big yeah it's SE sectors well you you jump you make it's called FTL you go f fasense so you jump from point to point and then from no I don't I don't know why you're accusing me of that so anyway um Marvel are yeah um no no no so you jump around and and yeah like I was just saying okay but as you it's not difficult to understand but if you General gameplay of it though what what are you what are you normally clicking on what so you've got your you begin the game and your ship and your crew are there you've got three crew members and you're in a ship and then your first thing you

can do really is make you jump to the next uh I think next system that you want to visit so you you hit jump you choose the next location on the map and you'll jump there and you'll encounter a random uh event which could be an enemy ship or it could be a Trader or it could be uh a group of scientists who require help with something blah blah blah blah blah it's all very simple and from that perspective but uh and as you go along you collect uh money and crew members and you can trade and you can shoot other destroy other ships and take their parts and upgrade your ship and it gets progressively harder and harder and you're constantly fleeing the um the fleet that's following you if you take too long you can see on the map they start to catch up and you have to stay

ahead of them otherwise you just get blasted out of existence so sounds stressful yeah and it gets harder and harder harder and harder and you kind of have to be a bit like I was saying you have to yeah it really need to be patient cuz the second you then start cuz happens to me all the time I'll get halfway through and I start this is pretty easy and I start rushing and then you get to the the seventh sector and you can't fight anybody because you didn't you you jumped too quickly through the previous ones didn't collect enough equipment and you can't survive so so it's like leure Suit Larry if you forget to pick up that object at the start oh it can be very very punishing it can be very punishing like you can die through no fault of your own that is definitely

true like you can literally just jump to a sector where there's a like a into a nebula and your Shields don't work and then there's a pirate ship there and you're completely helpless and you just die like that can happen and you don't know what's happening until you jump there yeah and so that can happen and that is frustrating but sounds very uh Battle Star Galactica I like it yeah it's good I recommend it and they just released a free update um because the iPad version came out and it's got a bunch of extra content in it as well oh I did not know that yeah so there's you can choose to enable that new content when you start a game um because it does change the game a bit well I'm going to give it a world M do it I I will do

it um anyone seen any movies lately yeah I've seen some all right why don't you uh why don't you take us through that then Dan I want to see a little uh movie the other night both a sequel and a reboot Planet of the Apes isn't it a sequel to the re reboot yeah yeah Y and is this the reboot reboot yeah it's the reboot of the reboot well actually it's a reboot of the remake of the original but you know i' had actually forgotten until this week that there even was a shitty remake back in the early 2000s everyone's favorite director oh Tim Burton yeah that's right um but uh is this Dawn Dawn of the Planet of the Apes

theal term Planet o the Apes stand yeah regardless it's [ __ ] excellent I I like I like the look of the trailer it looks really and I really like the last one too so yeah me too and this is better this is everything that good cinema should be if I had one criticism I'll say it's that the human characters were maybe a little underdeveloped but the the Apes were completely fleshed out really in depth but at the same time just amazing action beautiful photography and set pieces that's sentence Dan it's like just I never thought i' hear anyone ever say that the human's not that flesh up but the Apes the Apes I know I know but it was so funny like watching this and I was just like really enjoying it and it just reminded me of like how good mainstream

movies can be like a blockbuster can be a great movie and this is kind of this kind of film is the reason I Started Loving films when I was a kid you know but um just the fact that the the it done so well and Rod Sterling who wrote the original um script for Planet of the Apes back in the 60s um famously yeah but he he wasn't too happy with how it ended up looking um because it was quite different to what he imagined but I would just love to just transport this movie back in time and be like [ __ ] look at this man like it is so good it's so good he'd love it should I watch it um all right well I saw Transcendence oh yeah I don't understand all the hate this film got I just don't get it it wasn't it wasn't

awful it wasn't amazing but where I get hate I didn't think anybody saw it yeah it got a lot of hate got a lot of bad reviews it got um but for those who don't know it's a story of uh Johnny Depp and he gets killed and his Consciousness gets transferred into a machine now you think you know where that goes we all think we know where that goes right it doesn't go that way and that's the most surprising thing about this film it doesn't go the way you expect it's going to go and it's very Bittersweet and uh I really really enjoyed it um it's a very slow film If You're Expecting action you're not going to get it it's uh the film's there to make you Ponder as you go along it's it's it's very slowly paced but I really

thought it was uh it was a good film The the ending was it could have been fleshed out a bit more a bit weak but the overall concept I really enjoyed um not what I expected uh I highly suggest you guys watch it maybe when you're doing the eying cool I've got a steamer now instead of an iron have you yeah I thought that was code for something for a second I've just got your old iron yeah that's why I've got all right uh when we start talking about Steamers uh yeah oh speaking of I've got a poop I'm joking I don't have to poop um so has anyone else seen Cosmos yet or is it just me yeah I've been watching it I've been watching it I've been watching it too how good is it it's amazing great how good is I actually I teared up in

the first episode yes me too when he was talking about Carl San putting him on the bo Yeah Carl Sean's Di and he flicked that day and it just said Neil Tyson in there yeah yeah Beck looked across at me she was like you are you crying like yes I loved Carl San a no it's just great it's just it beautiful series it really captures the um the Wonder and kind of imagination that makes all that stuff interesting exactly it makes me feel like I'm like oh man I really wish I kind i' done something along those lines you know like I wish I was involved in that yeah you know the funny thing is though um like I would like that series if it was just Neil degrass Tyson dictating dry facts like I'd still love it if it was that but it's so much more than that you

know I do like too the animation yeah yeah it it it makes for an interesting take on things and it explores you know all these famous people or maybe not so famous people who did some amazing things that you don't know about yeah it sort was a really interesting way um to show those characters instead of just getting acting he just you he just loves he just loves it so much you can feel the love his voice passion for it that's contain the one about fer who does who discovers the um uh you know the the Spectrum and everything the um yeah oh the with the prisms and the colors yeah he discovers the you he calls it the code in between the the Spectrum the yeah and he goes spectral analysis that's how we can tell what planet exoplanets have in

their atmosphere but how that indicates the colors that are being absorbed and all that kind of business and and he said you know he said oh forgive me I get a bit emotional but this is this this is literally the birth of my my field yeah he's about to go to that room you can tell that he actually means that yeah this was the day that they merged um physics and astronomy astrology yeah astronomy astronomy yeah well oh it's a it's it's a beautiful series and he really he really cares about what he's talking about it's just yeah you're right someone said someone said it was contagious and it definitely is you know who is the director in DOP of this um I thought it was Seth McFarland no he's the executive producer so basically that just means that his um

production company his production company produces it but it is directed and shot by Tim Pope who was the dop on The Matrix movies no yeah black expains I was wondering why everything so [ __ ] amazing yeah it looks [ __ ] great doesn't it yeah like they spent a lot of money I am gonna be buying it on Blu-ray so I should watch this yeah Luke watch it Luke you got to get into it man I mean like it's you know it's a documentary series like learn stuff it's just someone standing there telling you about you watchos we can't be friends anymore it's and there's stuff where because Jenner and I have been watching it and it gets to the end of an episode and I was like oh man I love that was great I'm going to have to watch that one again because

some stuff because I've forgotten it all yeah exactly so much information and also things like um the one where they're talking about I mean this is maybe not that interesting to the listeners but you know like scw you the quantum the quantum physics stuff about where he's talking about the hydrogen atom and how the electron orbits but it doesn't orbit because it kind of jumps around and's principle where you can know that it's moving or you can know that it's there but you can't know but no you can know where it is or you can know that it's moving but you can't know both or whatever the [ __ ] that is and I'm like H I'm going to need to learn more but even just like the ones that you know the one about black holes like I watch that and I go [ __ ] now I know

everything about black holes n didn't retain anything got to watch it again yeah exactly yeah it's hard when you're not actively studying I remember that it looked cool when he flew into the black hole and things W all funny but that's all yeah it went a bit 2001 of Space Odyssey in there yeah yeah it's very impressive Luke you got to watch it man I've been watching something give L might like um I don't know if anyone else has seen this but I've I've taken some time off work to finish my film so obviously I've been catching up on quite a bit of TV um but I I watched the first season of Silicon Valley have you guys watched that I've been told many times by many people to give it a go cuz apparently

it's really funny look you're either going to love it or you're going to think it's terrible because you know when you watch something that's just a little two on the nose you know like and you know Luke you're a software test Matt you you you know you you're a coder like and Dave you know all about this stuff too like me who knows nothing about software developing watches a show about four software developers and goes cool well I'll just assume that everything they say is right do you know what I mean but like you guys might yeah you guys might hear the nuances of it and get get the shits but um that stuff doesn't bother me I like I don't mind creative license as long as the show's good I don't care well look it's it's directed by the guy who did office space

remember that old film oh yeah oh great film and um you know I like I like the characters there's only eight episodes in the series it's uh it's pretty good okay cool I'm GNA watch it all right I might give that want to tr go as well yeah I'd say you'd definitely like it Luke it's definitely L how about you watch Cosmos first and then you can watch Silicon Valley mom yeah like when you eat your vegetables then you can eat the when you've learned about the Galaxy or the universe then you can watch some you look and learn about computer then you can learn some fiction I also season in there too no watch the [ __ ] series for God's sake I'm up to date with Game of Thrones

too man oh you watched all of it yeah yeah what' you think [ __ ] yeah man it's good is it [ __ ] yeah it's good season what can you say what can you say and that last well the last two episodes really [ __ ] can I just say I mean I talked about this a little the other week um when I saw you guys is this going to spoil anything for anybody if I men in the skeletons no oh I'm never going to watch this show and Dave doesn't watch shows with K and queens look the skeletons were [ __ ] excellent in saying that I've seen all of the tutors which I don't know how that happened yeah there you go well this is [ __ ] way better than the tutors yeah anything think would be way better than the tutors I'm actually you know what you should watch Dave which you quite

like it's from the riter of the tutors but it I think it's more up your alley watch Vikings okay yeah yeah I think you'll enjoy that Dave I've seen a few episodes of it no my next show I'm going to watch is still in the shrink WP and Dan gave it to me as a gift and I'm I'm GNA watch it oh yeah whatever Rome I'm gonna watch it is R I'm going to watch Rome yeah yeah do it man Rome's great yeah I'm not don't don't listen to to his promises he's never going to do it it's a [ __ ] great show and you missing out you miss it I swear to God I'm going to get to it then it's just got emper oh I'll I'll tell you Dave the emperor doesn't last long all right it's not about the [ __ ] Emperor oh Christ I think I know what happens to him I think I think maybe

America what Steve Rogers has been Captain America all along that's the white guy Steve Rogers right right Chris Evans if you're fan of the films but in the comics Captain America will be replaced with a black guy uh which is interesting I think it's a bit odd to just replace the charact you know the whole character they did it with Spider-Man they replaced Spider-Man with a black kid if you recall a little while ago and I don't know how just he stole the suit no I don't think so but yeah so that's one that's one right and I mean to be honest I'm fine with it I think it I do think it's a bit odd are you m you don't sound fine with it you sound fine no no I'm I mean you know I think it's a bit weird to just kind of replace the whole character I can't W they replace it with

another white person would it be weird yes because it's a different person do now I have a question do they already do this in Marvel no they're they will be doing it apparently but it's like I said it's not I don't care if it was still him and then all of a sudden he was just black I'd be like okay that's that's a bit weird but all right but this is like literally Steve Rogers isn't is not going to be Captain America anymore someone else is I'm like that's well DC have done that quite a bit with their characters that's true so maybe it their reasoning is that they're bringing him into the 21st century and making him a bit more relevant than he perhaps has been yeah all right well I mean that's interesting but the other thing that they're doing

is making Thor a woman how does that work oh apparently uh some people have said if you read more of their tweets or more of their hints or whatever it seems more like Thor is going to be replaced with a woman as in Thor will not be found worthy to wield Moler anymore and a woman will so she will become the god of thunder but other tweets basically Ryan panagos who uh I assume is a writer is he a writer at uh Marvel he said this is not she Thor this is not lady Thor this is not Thor this is Thor so it sounds like they're going to make Thor a woman which is interesting considering Thor is is a you know like a Nordic mythical

character who is he's a man like it's just it's a bit weird you know well he's a God yeah exactly it's just a bit odd like and also his full name is Thor Odin's son soit so they might have to change that a little bit I don't know I just think it's weird like I don't I kind of understand from the point of view of kind of make trying to bring Comics into the you know the 21st century because they are very sexist I guess still but I don't know of just making characters into women is the answer you know what I mean well okay let's let's think for a second what would be a better superhero to currently convert to a woman why do we have to convert them to a woman there is a She-Hulk already there's a She-Hulk yeah there's a She-Hulk already to be

honest to be honest not the best examp Hulk is just a sexy naked Hulk it's it's Hulk in aerobics gear yeah she's not there as a feminist icon no let's be honest so don't all all major characters have like a female counterpart like Superman has Supergirl Batman has Batgirl or batom yeah but I well they're all they're DC so I guess maybe Marvel's trying to do the same thing but I don't know why do they have to change like Thor into a woman why can't a woman be introduced like another character character male to a female it's not to generate more of a female audience it's to sexy the [ __ ] up out a Thor and I bet I bet if I click on this link she's going to be scantly clad well I'll give you one guft Dave do you think

to kind of Base what they actually do on people's maybe it's going to be one of those things where they just suddenly start drawing Thor as a woman mention and if anyone says is th supposed to be a man they go oh sorry are you sexist are you yeah and then just throughout the next proba going to do the same thing with the you know blacked in America and can't say a sentence with isn't isn't she supposed to be me and through the next film Chris Hemsworth is slowly going to be digitally replaced with rose with rose bur going to follow on from the patent here then he will be a transsexual transgender um who who will Who will be in the third film so they are there are there any transsexual transgender superheroes M they keep adding letters to the thing I

don't you know what is it LG I'm serious are there any transgender superheroes I don't think there are I'm not aware of any not in certainly not in the major characters from Marvel I don't think there's any hold on one gendered I mean transgender I don't know where I don't know where the best people to discuss this issue but uh like I mean I I find it weird enough that uh in banana man he's a seven-year-old kid and then suddenly he's a fully grown man when he's his hero Ulta ego okay I've just got into a Wikipedia article for LGBT superheroes under a it has The Ambiguously Gay Joo so uh sure what story there is that's ah I'm going to put this in the show notes because I think our listeners will uh will love this page yeah go on

and then they've got it gets silly though because then you've got to have okay so Captain America become Captain America's black becomes a woman silly isn't it so then the Hulk's got to become gay and then because he's the Big Bear of the group and then Tony Stark is I don't know Tony Stark naked reveals that he was a woman previously but he was born a man who became a man and now he he thinks he's a woman again speaking at laughable pop culture stuff we'll end with uh with this I I I saw something today online that just made me laugh and cringe in equal measures um has anyone heard of Tagalongs no no okay Tagalongs are um

Star Wars characters they're essentially little action figures um that have a magnet on the butt and you also get a separate magnet to put under your shirt so that the Star Wars car character can just sit on your shoulder and essentially tag along this you go this is a a piece of merchandise yeah Star Wars tag I need this of course you do are any of them gay I think all of them are gay Star Wars tag alongs Yoda there you go oh this come from Disneyland do they apparently uh maybe yeah the Disney theme park Tagalongs they huh well that's ridiculous I saw this thing today yeah I did see the Yoda one maybe the Yoda is the only Star Wars themed one maybe they're meant to be worn around
