saw but we're going to do that at the end the end meaning after a couple of these uh quick Christmas announcements and then uh then we'll get into it then we're just going to talk Star Wars and uh and then probably a bunch of listeners are just going to stop listening to the podcast for months now until they you get around to watching it I think a bunch of listeners have already seen it no I know they have because our fans are Star Wars fans otherwise they wouldn't be listening yeah you wouldn't you wouldn't want to listen if you hated Star Wars well or maybe you would want to listen to today's episode you have to wait and see bit of Sizzle from Dan seen any tits this Christmas no I don't want to bring this

down into the gutter but guys you know how a couple of years ago like really horrible Christmas sweaters became like the thing that everyone was kind of doing ironically at Christmas time yeah we have a work kind of not not a competition it's just wear an ugly sweater to the work Christmas party so right well uh there's a new craze that's only just started this year um and it's women leaving one boob exposed and then putting a little Rudolph nose over the nipple I did not see anyone at work wearing this maybe you don't have the clearance for it Luke wow these actually are from like well it says Christmas parties does it mean work Christmas party or does it mean like swingers parties no I think it's home Christmas party casual home Christmas party I don't know I

mean I'm not sure how I'd feel if people turned up to my work Christmas party dressed like this I mean you know on the surface that's you know that's great but uh it also be quite distracting then you have to look at them again the next week yeah and you you'd be permanently thinking her TT's got eyes yeah and nose that'd be weird uh this is odd I'm not sure this is going to catch on you know no no I mean it's probably not going to catch on in the same way that um dick liner didn't catch on if you recall that uh that craze that we reported on earlier in the year of uh yeah yeah drawing a little dick in your eyeliner above your eye I thought that did kind of catch on well I mean this is kind of caught on in the in the same way you know some chicks are doing it and

time will tell whether uh whether it becomes a mainstream thing let's see if we're discussing this next year y or if we're just discussing solo there's probably also the dick variant of this craze too oh yeah that's probably just begging to happen right I don't think you get away with the having your dick out of the party though not again you and I got a different party s Define get away with not be arrested dick do need a new job though you can't get arrested for having your dick out if you're the police you probably can actually well okay this is yeah this is odd uh do you think this is something you would do

I assume they do I've never seen an actual cop if I saw any cop I know what they they probably would have arrested him under being a public nuisance so a man uh who is unidentified at the moment so I don't know why they're keeping him anonymous has been arrested by uh Canadian police for telling children that Santa isn't real I think while drunk right and apparently in breach of probation so he's done this before okay right so so it's a lot of things I mean while drunk can be tacked on to just about anything to make it a a crime drinking while drunk maybe not but uh maybe not but maybe yeah depends on where you do it oh you know what

member of your family that doesn't then yeah that's right yeah so they're all going to be pissed at me now yeah all right so is that our Christmas stories done for the year I guess so I think it was we going to talk about another kind of Christmas years old and tits out yeah and I think that we that was probably pretty labored too so I don't know if we've got time to trim that a little bit but I think yeah we're probably just kind of Meandering through that just to get to this next thing which is uh which is Star Wars talk Star Wars news little slow there I'll play this I want to play the George Lucas news jingle just because okay well hang on I got an idea I got an idea I got an idea okay so we'll go with

this all right Star Wars news this is a new Star Wars movie we're going to talk about it there'll be spoilers but not just yet but first up what did George Lucas think of the new Star Wars film I heard that he liked it George Lucas [Music] news look I'm sure you weren't Matt I'm sure you were just singing straight into the microphone when you recorded that but I just I have I imagine that you're playing that with your back to an audience and you're singing to them over your shoulder you know what I mean sure and I'm just going to you're also wearing a um a stripy Blazer oh and one of those straw hats so I definitely was when I recorded that so so I just I want to keep that uh I want

to keep that image George Lucas said the Last Jedi is a very well-made film I believe those were his words and that's all he had to say about it yeah well that's more than he said for the force awakens yeah I mean I I remember Mark Hamill's comment about the force awakens which was the prequels were more original than this [ __ ] oh he also apparently turned up on set while they were shooting The Last Jedi and asked them why they were building so many sets cuz he said it's [ __ ] pointless what are you doing just use a green screen yeah why are you building all set just [ __ ] have you seen the force awakens recently it looks terrible I mean not the force awakens phom Menace oh right thought we were going to have to go Toe to Toe there I

was like [ __ ] hell man we are not on the same page I got a little confused it's late no look it's it's you're right to get confused there there's quite a few Star Wars movies now yeah and there's there's infinitely more there are eight there's 10 at the moment yeah [ __ ] is that including Caravan of courage and uh the 11 with Caravan courage and battle F I forgot about Rogue one okay and Rogue one and the holiday special holiday special is not a movie it's like a movie it's like a movie crossed with a nightmare I'm going to watch that this week and yet some bits of it were at least le as good as some bits in The Last Jedi before we uh yeah I know what you mean before we talk spoilers uh for

listeners who don't want to hear spoilers but do want to know what we think who are going to be very disappointed when they only get to listen to 10 minutes of this episode uh what did you think of film overall in a spoiler-free way I've thought about it m I liked it okay okay yep um there are things in this movie that I absolutely love and there were things that I absolutely hated and uh that's my good outweighed the bad for me I think generally speaking I would have to say it did too uh but only because I really really really wanted to like this movie uh and it was challenging my will to like it yeah I feel the same I'm not I don't know that the good outweighed the bad

for me there was there was a particular thread through it that I really really liked a lot uh and then there was a lot of lot of stuff that I didn't like but uh so overall I don't think I liked it but I I have been focusing on the negative stuff for a few days so I did maybe watch it again we think that the negative stuff is so much easier to talk about yeah and we will we will but I think we should talk about what we did like first okay well should we go spoilers now from from here on it's spoilers sorry every body it's going to be hard to talk about this film without spoilers and most of you will have seen it so play the jingle and if you haven't seen it why are you listening to us do we have a spoilers jingle I thought we had a spoilers jingle don't we I've what

no I've got a necronom on spoilers jingle I could play all right that in there all right hang on it's in uh it's in the necronom folder you use that when you spoil things like the uh Texas Chainsaw Massacre yeah from the 70s rip to pooper I've forgotten about that it's time for some spoilers see again I'm sure you were facing the mic but in that one you you're at a pipe organ but you're also still singing that over your shoulder y accurate all right what do you want to begin I I think we should talk about what we liked about I think we should maybe of how it starts off like this is It's not like any other Star Wars movie where there's been a few

years in between this starts off exactly where the force awakens finished yeah yes yeah the time frame in this when I was thinking about it afterwards confused me a little because there are some things that seem like they take a long time and some things that they can't have taken a long time because it's immediate so I feel like it Empire Strikes Back had the same issues so I'm not you know whatever it's it's a movie but I feel like I feel like by Strikes Back had more time in between than this is alluding to I mean you literally saw somebody hand somebody a lightsaber at the end of the last movie and you saw them take it at the start of this movie yes and the and and during the time that Ry is on that island with Luke the whole plot about

them the resistance being chased by the first order happens which means she can't have been on the island very long no but but it is days so I don't know the I'm sure maybe it checks out and I'm I'm it's just I'm I'm I'm complaining about nothing but it just did seem like hang on a minute how did that all fit together like it's it just seemed like there wasn't enough time space travel has just become quite confused confusing in the st's universe there are a few uh yeah a few pot points in this movie that revolve around uh how fast things can happen yeah cuz like in and The Originals it felt like it took time to travel places now it's just I'm just going to duck over here for a bit and to some weird planet over here that you don't need to worry about and you're just

there yeah there's no worrying about how long it's going to take to get there or anything I think there was a fair bit of not worrying about what had happened previously in Star Wars films in this film and that said the thing that I really liked it and I think you guys might agree uh that was a good progression from the last film to this was the relationship between Carlo Ren and Ray I thought some really nice chemistry going on there that was enhanced by Space Magic uh in a really awesome way yes I do I don't necessarily like the way that not those two characters but the just the way that other other characters suddenly have like the most incredible powers that we've ever seen

and no one's acknowledging the fact that this is unusual like that the people the most powerful people in the Galaxy you know yeah didn't have these powers and now these people do but they're still wanting to bring back Darth Vader like what do you want Darth Vader for like you guys [ __ ] kick Darth Vader's ass don't worry about it that's yeah I mean I can understand why in the force awakens they set up that kylo Ren was a fanboy of Darth Vader like he had picked someone to model himself on but now we find no no no no it's snope that's encouraging him to be like Darth Vader but not the helmet he hates the helmet yes I do I thought that was funny but also it kind of undermines the

Menace of kylo Ren in a way and not only that the joke about means that he wore that helmet despite wearing helmets not being a thing it's not that he was told to wear it it just he showed up to work one day in a helmet and just everyone was too polite to say anything do you think I could get away with wearing a helmet he LC in our Luke yeah he just does not give a [ __ ] he's like I'm wearing helmet now yeah guys this is my helmet this my helmet now doesn't look very good Luke I don't [ __ ] care I'm not wearing it for you I'm not wearing it so that you think I look good yeah I do have to ask something about snoop's Throne Room Snoop yep Snoop snoop's Throne Room did anyone else get the impression that there was meant to be something else behind him cuz I it did

look to me like unfinished special effect I don't know it looks like they they had a greed screen went oh [ __ ] we forgot to do anything just make it make it red I know it was so lazy wasn't it I mean it looked cool but like who the [ __ ] look like that yeah it did I think I know what they were going for but it just didn't come out what I think they what that red actually was it was actually a curtain and then behind was meant to be like the the windows the windows looking out the Galaxy but it didn't come across that way it was just well I think I think we learned anything it's that um it's that Ryan Johnson's directing style is similar to that of George Lucas's right Y and uh I'm sure somebody said what's going to

go there and he just said make it red and it was I did hear that story where I think Ryan Johnson told the story where he had been giving Carrie Fisher Direction like long long winded Direction and then she goes right right so faster and more intense like and he was like yes that's great so that checks out yeah this story line was my favorite kylo Ren and Ray that that whole thing with them and I loved the fact that you there was kind of this seed planted that maybe one of them's going to try and turn the other and then they team up and it's kind of like oh kylo Ren has turned good like Ry was right and it's G to be they're going to they're going to defeat

snoke and then it's going to you know all the fans who were guessing that kylo Ren would turn to the Light Side were right and and then he goes all right so we now we're going to rule the galaxy right and then you're like oh that's cool okay yeah yeah sorry kylo Ren can't turn good without dying immediately after yeah look the thing about kylo Ren was not that he's a cool bad guy that become a good guy it's that finally there's a bad guy that has that much depth he's a great it's a they don't need to turn him good he's got the he's not just generic evil he's he's like complicated and it's more in-depth than we've gotten from Like a Star Wars villain really yeah that's right absolutely like he's he's what we all hoped Darth Maul was going to be yeah

he's not just evil or good he's got reasons for why he's doing what he's doing yeah he's evil but thinks he's good right yeah exactly he just wants to burn away the past as he says which even if you look at the way Darth Vader turned he was trying to be good to begin with but they just did it really really poorly in episode three I don't think we've ever seen that in any of the Star Wars films I'm familiar with or acknowledge the existence of yeah I don't know what you're talking about no what they tried I didn't say they it worked well speaking of the prequels actually another thing I liked About Last Jedi was Luke admitting the Jedi were failures mhm yeah you accepted the prequels Cannon then that was necessary

I think yeah that's right well here here's the problem with the Jedi being failures the Jedi they're they're all dying out there's no more Jedi coming on how about you [ __ ] have some sex start breeding but here's the thing [ __ ] P you're not supposed to be born a Jedi or not born a Jedi the whole thing is that like a [ __ ] boy from the farthest point from the center of the universe can get training and become one I mean that's what makes Jedi awesome yeah except it was because he was Darth Vader's son but it wasn't God damn it no no I agree with you I think that is one of the flaws here is that they're trying to have their cake and eat it too because Ray is now a nobody right which means what you're saying Dan is true except they

are they kind of have set that up so that it's not true in all the previous films except that I think they're going to go with that now because at the end of this film we saw a little kid who uh is also Force sensitive yeah do you know what it seemed to me like parents this film is Ryan Johnson I think Ryan Johnson agrees with you Dan and he was handed this this [ __ ] Star Wars franchise and this film is his kind of attempt to bring it back to that yeah and that's great you know I mean that's that's worthy but uh why were there cows being milk and why did I have to watch Luke drink out of a cow and then just

stare at Ry and then the and then the cow looks at Ry as well gives her a little look like like that weird Okay so this movie to me was me sitting on the edge of my seat going okay this is good this is really good and then me going what the [ __ ] was that there are so many moments in here space iron what the actual [ __ ] yeah what the the non- aliens weird uh yeah they could have just had like no one there they didn't need to have none aliens here's the thing guys and I really do believe this there's there's enough good in this movie that the plot points that don't really add up or make sense that we will talk about I can forgive all of that

what I can't forgive is so many cringeworthy moments and I really do think they need to do an edit where they take half an hour out of this film and just get rid of like just cut out every shot of those space nuns cut out the shot where he milks a cow and goes fishing cut out the entire subplot that involves the Jar Binks of this movie IA rose right who is just just absolute fluff that doesn't need to be there at all there's a good movie in here it's just it's just covered in [ __ ] yeah um here's something cuz they remember when Force spoks came out they actually rewrote a lot of this movie to have Finn and everyone more in it more did they maybe create that whole Finn and Rose story because of how much they

love so it wasn't actually there to begin with because that is interesting it is completely out of place that whole let's go to this casino planet and track down this guy who should have been Lando but it's not and see the whole this whole movie to me feels like a big fake out like like Ryan Johnson sat down with a A list of Star Wars tropes and then wrote a list of ways to subvert those tropes like and like you know a clever way of of taking stuff from the old movies and flipping them around and I and then but then wrote the movie backwards to get to them and so that's why there are cool things in there right like you know um you know everything kind of it's all stuff that we've seen before like in in the other Star Wars films but then it

turns out different like yeah uh you know like why didn't Laura D tell Poe that they were going to escape in the cloaked ships right because normally in a movie po would have been right and he would have saved the day when when you know Lor D's character failed to to save everybody po would have had this big they would have been this big plot where they did this Escapade at the casino and all this stuff panned out but it didn't right because it's kind of like this subversion of the thing where po actually and [ __ ] up and got Finn and Rose's court and it all just went wrong right and it all would have been avoided if Laura D had just said no no we're going to escape in the Escape pods so why didn't she because if she had told him that the movie couldn't have

happened yeah I think the the good part of the movie could still have happen yeah I agree it's just that that whole that whole sequence was kind of looked like it was written backwards like they could have EAS explained that a way if she thought there was a spy or something or something along those lines not just keep it a complete secret from him when they do have the moment where we both like him I can understand why Kathleen Kennedy is so enamored with this movie it's because it's about women her age you know like the the main cast in this movie the actual Heroes like the people that drive the story are middle-aged women yeah so uh you know but like Po gets a bunch of people killed at the start he gets a bunch of

people killed in the middle and then when when Leia wakes up her and Laura dner talking Laura D's like I like that guy yeah cuz he just got a bunch of people killed you like him huh he's he's a [ __ ] up in this movie yeah also Laura D and Carrie Fisher well the characters new they totally had a sexual relationship go on yeah putting it out there no just that that that two and throw that they had there where I like him and they were yeah to being a hero and all this that there was sexual tension there do you think that's why she left Han you think yeah you think Laura is the reason we have kylo Ren and do you think that kylo left home like stormed out to find his own way because he just was disgusted with his mother because he

is actually a homophobe I don't think that's where all's going and then and then he wakes up in the middle of the night and he sees Luke looming over him and he goes oh [ __ ] no no no not tonight no way not another deer bar [Laughter] picnic yeah I did like uh I like the way that they showed the two different versions or and then eventually the actual version or maybe we don't really even know what happened but I like everyone had a different story about what had happened when when turned kind of when that that whole evening when Luke creepily snuck into his tent and pulled out his light saber and I think that's exactly what Mark HL was saying when he didn't like

where the character was going yeah I agree actually I think maybe Mark H I think was right that would have been good if that was a whole story arc yes correct If he if he had become disenchanted with it and and had to slowly be brought yeah but I mean it wasn't that he was just a cranky old weirdo yeah I didn't I didn't like Luke's characterization in this didn't fit to me no not at all I think it needed I it could have worked but it needed a lot more than what it got there was no nothing redeeming about him and and then okay this this is something I was thinking about later right so sorry massive spoilers like Luke's gone nowm presumably he can

return as a force ghost or something like he just he'll be back as a force ghost but so he he exha himself to death R yeah cuz doing things that apparently you can just [ __ ] takes after his mother just make yourself appear to everybody in a whole Army two armies you can just appear across the [ __ ] game Galaxy and pretend like you're there apparently that's a thing you can do now yeah but nobody noticed that he was young or younger and had destroyed they just destroyed that lightsaber yeah moments before not only that if if he was if mustering the power to create an illusion like that would get you killed just go there just actually go there and fight right just do it maybe you'll win and then you can

solve this whole thing [ __ ] at least play the odds he didn't have a ship yes he did in the water in the water yeah yeah like that thing I've seen him lift x-wings Out of Water okay I've seen it with my own two [ __ ] eyes I know he can do it also if he was non-coral How could somebody have a sword fight with him well he never they never touched he never touched yeah I I noticed that too and I cuz he did that Matrix thing and I was like why is he doing oh he's not really there okay okay oh did it take you guys that long to work out he wasn't there no no no I knew he wasn't there when he rocked up and had no gray in his beard and had short hair and I was like why did he dye his hair to I was I was thinking why did he get a haircut on the way that's what I was thinking and the

weirdness of was they made a comment about Leia's haircut in that scene it was so unnecessary with something that was already confusing yes yes but look right he so Luke doesn't want to train Ray because he thinks the Jedi need to go away and then she leaves and he's like you know what [ __ ] this I'm burning it all down and he runs to burn down the tree and destroy the books and everything right but Yoda shows up yeah then and can apparently control the [ __ ] weather as a ghost now yeah because the force can just do anything now yeah and then so he before Luke can get in there Yoda blows up the tree and then Luke complains yeah they have a chat about if that wasn't his actual plan there's nothing in there that she doesn't already have with her

cuz Ray took the books and they're on the Falcon you see them at the end right but then Yoda says to Luke don't worry the books weren't very good there's nothing in there she doesn't have already have with her don't worry about it mate and so Luke then is like oh okay cool the Jedi are going to reboot and then he dies peaceful cuz he thinks that that his little plan worked you have [ __ ] trolled him so he's going to be as soon as he becomes a ghost he's going to be like yo are you [ __ ] little [ __ ] she's got the books well the whole thing that is still got from that was Yoda was saying like don't worry about the books you need to be there for her and then he just died from a certain point of view are we going to talk about

Yoda why was he there yeah well you know why because they need those fan box yeah I don't I don't know I liked that he was a puppet I didn't like that they [ __ ] made him like a novelty glow-in-the-dark lamp yeah he I mean puppets are one the puppetry in this movie was awful it was absolutely awful because I mean there were a lot of Puppets in it and that's great I mean we all we all loved the fact that uh JJ brought back some practical effects to the force awakens need to be done well yeah I mean the reason that Yoda looked so good in the old movies was because he was in a SMY dimly lit house like they used cinematography to make him blend with the scene in this he's just sitting out

on a rock like [ __ ] Kermit the [ __ ] frog yeah and but he wasn't Yoda he was no he absolutely was not Yoda he was like Empire shrikes back where he was mocking around pretending not to be Yoda that's what his character was in this movie yes yeah yeah it's like Ryan Johnson didn't understand that Yoda isn't actually like that yeah I mean don't get me wrong I'll watch [ __ ] Muppet Yoda a thousand times before I ever want to see a single frame from inside that casino because those puppets were the comedy in this in general was pretty bad the little comedy jet oh [ __ ] why was ma in this at all by the way the [ __ ] that was

awful like hey how does po even know who she is he never met her like like Po literally never would have been Finn who made the phone call Finn was was Finn even there I can't remember yeah maybe yeah Finn was there but then didn't it was po that said that he knew somebody wasn't it and then they called her I don't know but anyway that whole that thing with her jumping around and [ __ ] that was dumb was trade thisp yeah that just was weird I feel like the comedy the comedy in this was bad in general yeah the comedy was why did they set up to go to the Ceno to someone who's gambling like they set it up for Lando I know and they didn't put Lando in it and didn't even have like a cameo of so can I ask you guys your reading of

that scene right was it that Justin th's character was the guy they were there to meet and then Benito Del Toro met them instead and said he could do it or are we assuming Benito Del and to believe that we have to assume that there's only two people in the Galaxy that could break this code and both of them happen to be at a casino right now or is it first one that Bono is that he like the only reason that he's there is he is the Codebreaker they're there to see but that that other dude who's wearing the pin won that off him in a game or something I mean that's what I was expecting right the second one your second description is the one that makes sense but the first one is

the one that is in the film as far as I can tell yeah cuz I kept waiting for it like them to go after the guy with the red pin but then for that to be like no no I just won this off a dude and they were like that guy was the guy but no no there's just two guys right it's just [ __ ] lazy storytelling yeah all their friends are going to die and they trust this hobo that they found in the prison but when they get captured as well and then he he sells them out how did he know the ships have flown off yeah that didn't get explained either that I mean and then also why would the why would they even let him go I mean look they were talking to PO so he probably overheard them talking about it so I mean it's not that it can't be explained it just wasn't someone that can slice in

and get past all of your defenses you don't let that person go yeah that's a good point how'd you get in here oh that guy hacked in give him money let him go we are men of our word [ __ ] fasma was useless again what the [ __ ] they didn't even explain what happened to her now I did like that to an extent Finn had to face the people he has betrayed that that was an interesting story and I think if that had been his plot for this movie that would have been very interesting I would have watched him have to go back there and meet all these people who are like you're a [ __ ] traitor like a 12-step program he got to call up everybody and apologize yeah for his behavior but you know like maybe if he'd had maybe once he's back in there

you know he' started to like doubt it again and started realizing that like oh okay there was a reason I was fighting on this side in the first place is because you know all these violent rebellions are not what's going to unite the Galaxy like one centralized government has always been the answer or something just make it [ __ ] interesting that would have been fascinating too cuz you know what I liked about Bei alur's character was his aspect of the you know the arms dealers selling to both sides and then it kind of brought up the themes that you're talking about but then and then it just kind of got discarded whereas if yeah if you had put Finn in that I think the way you're describing that would have been great like like it's not as clearcut as

we have been led to believe yeah like cuz this is my question was in force awakens I think a bit less but in this in particular like what's the first order [ __ ] doing yeah what do they want no but in the original trilogy right the empire was everywhere so when when they on tne right there's [ __ ] Stormtroopers they show up on Cloud City and and like everybody knows about them and and you kind of feel their presence everywhere like but in this the first order is just in ships chasing the resistance and when they go to the casino there's no nothing there like there's no mention of the first order like what the [ __ ] are they even doing why you know what it is it's Wy k the first order is only there to chase the Road Runner they're just there to chase the

rebels yeah and then what is I mean the resistance is what what are they resisting no you're right what are they resisting because the first order are not in charge that's the thing about the uh like the um the Imperials they were in charge and there was a rebellion to fight against the system that was in place this is just two people neither of which have any political clout [ __ ] having a fight up in the air the actually I've just it happens right afterwards right and so they had Star Killer base they just blew up the planet so I guess you could make the argument that that the the first order is a problem because they just blew up all the planets of the Republic and they're about to become like a major problem so I guess maybe that's

Pardon Me Maybe that's like where they're going with it but at the moment this is one of the things you will find out more from the books unfortunately well that's not acceptable yeah yeah I agree because here's the thing right okay the the Empire has been destroyed it's completely destroyed what's interesting is okay what if there's something worse than the Empire out there you know what if the empire was the only glue that was holding everything together um kind of like Mass Effect right you know there's all these different aliens out there but we have to [ __ ] work together because there's worst [ __ ] out there and it's going to take us all uniting to fight against that not just some people who really liked Darth Vader have grouped together

to basically do Empire 2.0 some some Fanboy it's basically neo-nazis yes it's neo-nazis exactly right and and they're [ __ ] useless that's the my other problem with the depiction of of follow them slowly until they run out of in this movie they're so [ __ ] useless every single first order person that we see any Superior is like a comedy like sidekick character they're all [ __ ] useless that's one thing hux looks looks older this one he's just a punchline in this movie like hux is not like he's nothing he he he just screws everything up and then they're all like he's he's I think he's trolling you sir like oh God I didn't like that that opening scene the B that I liked I didn't mind the fact where he said uh Snopes on the

line for he was like I'll take it in my Chambers and then this huge hologram like burst in I mean that was great that was that was the right way to undermine a setup yes I liked that there was a bit too at the end when uh I think when they're in in at the battle at the end when Klo Ren gives the guy an order and hux goes belay that order and then kylo Ren throws him against the wall with the force and the guy supreme leader that was funny that was see that was good Star Wars comedy yes exactly he didn't look at the camera and wink at you God yeah like Luke Skywalker did when he was drinking the blue milk oh God why the most even Happ question that we needed answered in the Star Wars cannon where the [ __ ] blue milk come from and what does it look like when you

[ __ ] drink it from the te of he drink directly from the tit when he's by himself God why is that in there look good just oh I didn't like chewy in the he [ __ ] chewy wasn't in it Matt Matt chewy wasn't in it that wasn't chewy no chewy would have eaten that POG whatever it is PO he [ __ ] killed it plucked it roasted it but he didn't eat it so now he's friends with them like he just wasted the corpse that absolutely sacrificed for his nutrition and then because they come up and give him little sad eyes chewy the Wy was like I feel bad now yeah that wasn't chewy chew is an established character and that was none of his character

traits um I wanted to talk to about how this film kind of makes Force awakens a bad movie now because it just kind of does away with a bunch of stuff in force awakens like you I like that Ray's parents aren't anybody important except in force awakens everybody acts like they know who she is and that she is someone important and it's kind the whole point of the movie is that she is somebody important and then so what yeah but I think even from the original from Force OFW she her parents were nobody cuz even she said in the first one like you know my parents it's obvious who her parents are and to me that actually makes more sense well it does but are nobody why is Han acting like he knows something about well not all is it's

always just who's the girl scene Cuts away and I think that was just a in our head I think it's because in this universe everyone has a secret twin and you never know so if you meet someone that you like they could be the secret twin to your son or daughter I also think that the the the advice Luke gave her should have been listen if you don't know who your parents are and therefore you don't know who you're related to don't kiss anyone just in case as unlucky as it may seem Finn could be your brother but I see I like that her parents aren't anybody and that they're not kind of linked but I feel like it undermines some of the stuff that got set up in force awakens and and a lot of stuff in this undermines that and I read

a theory that that we got JJ Abrams with the force awakens where he did his lost thing where he they call it um he puts in mystery boxes yeah right but he doesn't know what's in the box either he just puts mystery boxes in the film and then and then yeah I I've definitely heard that's how he writes and uh perhaps who the Knights of Ren worry about it later who uh who snoke worry about it later who's raised parents worry about it later but play up those Mysteries well that's certainly what he did with lost right and and hope no one will notice when you don't address yeah and so I think Ryan Johnson was like snoke is I think I think I think he's correct snoke is not that interesting because they didn't know who he was yeah exactly uh Ray's parents

being Kobi and someone not interesting like that's that's I agree with that so my like I said my only issue is that I feel like force awakens kind of has been undermined now because they did chop off this unnecessary stuff that got built up I'm trying to work out why they killed off Luke and not Carrie Fisher well I think not Carrie Fisher not Leia why didn't they kill Carrie Fisher well it's because she didn't die until after this that's why and I bet if they had known they they would have done it somewhere differently because they did kill her off and it would have been a beautiful moment but now she's a space ghost that was [ __ ] stupid that's like my least favorite thing in this movie because when she died I was like

oh my God what what a beautiful conclusion to her story and then it's like don't worry I'll use Space Magic the the yellow hased in the entire movie it looked terrible it was it felt terrible yeah just I don't know why they did it luks talking about the first time he and I made [Laughter] love he's talking about in the third person it looks terrible it felt terrible and I don't know why they did it that was bad sort of weird like now Luke's killed off he will come back as a ghost but sort of like this is the first time we're going to head into what's meant to be the Star Wars

saga without not star Skywalker Saga without any of the Skywalkers alive oh yeah ler but no not Leia no unless we get T and Leia no they said they're not going to do that I hope yeah they said they said that that they weren't going to change the film you know even though she died I'm glad that they didn't I guess we have a year for this or have we got a year and a half solo coming out mid year or solo coming out at the end Solo's mid I think we're two years before episode 9 at least but um I think with the the next one they're going to I think she will still be Leia will be dead or too old and just off screen because the next one's going to be set it has to be set like 10 years in the future or something because remember there's like

10 of the resistance people left and so either they're going to do what when they're building the resistance or they're going to have it that the resistance is established and that's what I'm thinking it's going to be a few years down the track and there's a resistance and there's an army and it'll be that and that's how I think they'll kill her off just the opening crawl Princess Leia is dead moving on yeah yeah because it has to be a few years they can't just continue on like they did with this one no I wouldn't think so you got to give it some space and then we know yeah JJ Abrams is back for number nine and also there was an article about uh did you feel like Daisy Ridley's performance wasn't as good in this I

really did by performance do you mean body cuz yes no I didn't mean that I meant uh her especially on the island with Luke her delivery of the lines wasn't what she got to work with no well that's what and then I read this article that said um she they had all thought when Colin trevo got fired that Ryan Johnson would just continue on and do episode 9 because Disney and all the executives had loved him so much and then she found out that JJ ABS was going to do it instead and she was so happy that she cried and this article came out you know like a month or two ago and I didn't think about it too much but now I'm like maybe she doesn't like this movie either yeah well or maybe JJs is just [ __ ] awesome like I like to think that he

is because the scenes where she was talking to like kylo they were very strong yes I agree with that actually I think it's just yeah maybe Mark hamel's not a very good actor that's actually another possibility because I you also find that he kind of slipped into his Joker voice a couple of times in this I think maybe he's not the best let's be honest well it's not like he's been getting a lot of work get this again oh I [ __ ] hated that whole end sequence with you know like like fire everything at that man and then like they blow up and he walks out and like brushes the dust off that was awful he brushes that in yours cuz they cheered that in mine they did and I was like you people [ __ ] suck that's what yeah I had no cheering

no nothing you're lucky I hated that bit also I didn't like we talked about how Rose is just kind of like a throwaway character she [ __ ] cleans the pipes on sorry I just realized that that's euphemism she cleans the pipes and sh she she's a janitor basically for the resistance yeah and then and then who occasionally tases people who try and Escape yeah and then but she also knows how to shut down the [ __ ] tracking system on a on a star destroyer and they give her one of those sh they've only got like a limited number of these ships to to fight the most important battle that's going to stop them from all dying I will give her one yeah but to be fair there only 10 people by now there were other there's three

Pilots put them in the first three planes who else but why does she know how to do that cuz sister was a pilot at the start no but you know how to drive a car Finn wouldn't Finn wouldn't know how to do it either yeah but Finn's a main character I can forgive forgive them for that but they're both janitors yeah you're right yeah you're absolutely right it's I know look these are all stupid things I probably wouldn't even notice if I liked everything else in the movie yeah exactly right and I loved Finn in the force awakens but he didn't need to be in this movie he wasn't character in this movie no they I think they Finn was so popular that they put him in and I think Rose was just they needed somebody for him to have an adventure with yeah so they threw

another character in mhm the whole Casino subplot could it could have been in the like not in the movie at all it had no effect on the plot at all no absolutely not and here's what I hope will happen I hope that when JJ Abrams comes on board to do number n that he's allowed to do a JJ ABS cut of number eight and he removes anything that doesn't Bridge his seven and his n together here's what's weird to me like I'm I'm I agree with you completely and I [ __ ] got so mad about the end of lost yeah here I am championing JJ Abrams because yeah I know I know he's going to let me down in the end but if they let him do all three nine would like I would have been [ __ ] seven I I liked Force awakens I guarantee I probably would have loved whatever the

[ __ ] he did with the last Jed eye and then nine would have come out and I would been like the [ __ ] [ __ ] you that went nowhere [ __ ] son of a [ __ ] yeah he's all about the ride about the space chase that was dumb so you got all these Star Destroyers chasing down this ship that's just slightly faster why don't they just get one of them to go on light speed to it's called the hammer and Anvil it's been around since Alexander the Great turn around and just come back just yep yeah y y done finished yeah you the way that they oh you can't track through light space yeah you can now oh okay no further

questions why can you because you have to for the movie to happen that is the biggest that is the biggest jump in technology that the G has seen since the invention of light speed and I do not care for the details someone said they it came up in uh Rogue one came up in Rogue one yeah someone I someone did point that out but then why doesn't it exist in the [ __ ] original trilogy that's [ __ ] Loosey Goosey with all this stuff God it's just a [ __ ] Space movie do you know what I hate that I am now saying it's just a space movie yeah I used to be a space movie yeah and I'm thinking like I'm cuz I'm really annoyed at how [ __ ] the puppets looked but then again if I was an adult in 1977 I would have been like I would have walked out

of the theater in the Cantina scene like there was a [ __ ] elephant in that do you know what I mean like there was a werewolf that's what I was going to say the casino didn't in any way capture the feeling of the Cantina scene right and I'm assume that's probably what they were going for but is that just because yeah is that me or is that them uh I think it's us Matt I really think it's us and I think yeah and not only that say what you want about George Lucas oh [ __ ] see now we're defending Lucas right I know but here's the thing I am not this George Lucas made three movies over the space of almost 20 years right and like at least they were consistent and and and now then he made a bunch of shitty ones over another 20 years and now there's just

one a year now so like they're not even they're not even things we're going to look forward to there's just always going to be one it's going to be like neighbors if you're home one of thinking about one of the things I've been thinking about in the last the last couple days is like this is this is Star Wars now this is it every year we're going to get one of these and they're not going to be good because they can't all be good yeah and I was sitting I was sitting in the theater and when the you know that logo appears you know I was like this is probably the last time I'm going to be excited for this because this is fast approaching oversaturation and I'm not going to feel anything anymore I think uh we haven't we didn't talk at all about Disney acquiring Fox

uh before the spoilers but um I'm hoping that that means they can now distribute the old versions of Star Wars M and they like money so they may do that yeah I don't see why not in which case I can just get the original trilogy and live in a cave and just watch those and pretend nothing else speaking of Disney I know that the Force awakens and Rogue one were produced by Disney but this film was so Disney I was waiting for them to burst into song I kind of wish they had Olaf shows up yeah oh we haven't talked about oh it's salt look at the camera no no no okay yes ridiculous okay just tell them it's not snow make sure they know this is not ho and I didn't copy this from another movie fine okay

it's salt tell us it's salt that's fine why did he have to taste a guy's footprint to know what was salt a you'd know where you were right if you were on a salt Planet you'd know you were on a salt Planet you don't have to go out there plus he was standing there not knowing it was salt then someone walked out he saw a footprint and went M I'm going to taste that footprint like I was sitting in the ca going what are you doing no no no don't taste the foot don't taste somebody's footprint salt then he turned turns what if it Edward you know that's Gare Edwards beside him and says Gareth Edwards it's salt Gare said yep I directed Rogue one yeah I did a better one than this yeah I did the one that's arguably the best

now oh it's not salt it's arsenic bye yeah yeah all right oh it's [ __ ] it's a planet of [ __ ] oh it's a weird actually it's a weird alien uh compound that is highly toxic yeah and it's actually merged with my DNA and now I've become a xenomorph Prometheus crossover I would love that is that 20th Century Fox oh [ __ ] please that would be great so if we're going to ruin Star Wars let's go ruin everything ruin [ __ ] burn it all down [ __ ] Olaf shows up on Hoth yeah and uh yeah he gets his own origin story yeah can I say something else that irks me [ __ ] irks me right yeah May and maybe you guys can like explain this to me so

I can stop being so annoyed at some such a dumb little thing that doesn't matter okay all right Luke you're going to explain this to Dan okay Luke please explain this to me okay okay bb8 is a Droid M right yep that the rebels have as their little [ __ ] backpack Droid right I don't know what that job is called what is that job called you probably know it's just play Starship there's always a little Droid on the back right okay he's called BB9 right no bb8 he's called bb8 bb8 take two so he's called bb8 so when they go to the uh [ __ ] Star Destroyer [ __ ] they they're on right yeah that really big

one the big ship they have to cover him up because otherwise somebody will recognize him as being not one of their droids right yeah M okay okay I'm willing to accept the fact that there's you know trademark looks to droids and that they would recognize that that's not one cuz the [ __ ] probably not a good idea though you know overall yeah is to just paint the Droid as a rebel Droid my sister's Droid that's right and you know it's it's iffy at best that like I mean the fact that all the Droids that work for um the first order are black is a little bit like Mitchell and web's Nazi sketch like are we the baddies look at our uniforms right yeah so the first order also have a little round Droid that looks exactly like the

bb-8 except he's black and he's called BB9 right mhm B9 a or something isn't he 9e to be exact 9 but here's the thing if you're building Tech right are you going I've made this round Droid uh what do I call it and somebody goes oh actually um our enemies have one that's just like that but orange it's called bb8 and they oh okay well we'll call this BB9 then like it's one better if they're making their own [ __ ] why is the naming convention the same this is very easy to explain please it's just the next model of car BB9 was just a newer model but so why would bb8 give them only one of him there's only one of him yeah no no fine fine I'll accept that Luke I'll accept that then answer me

this when you have a new model of car you don't immediately destroy all previous models of that car so that they would give it away if you had one okay so if there was a BB9 they'd still be dozens of bb8s around until they were phased out over time why do you think BB9 was tracking them down well I don't know and I also don't know how bb8 knows how to [ __ ] walk in one of those [ __ ] I just you're probably fine because BB9 saw bb8 rolling around with a trash can on his head and went something's not right there so why wear the trash can the trash can was to throw off people say Sor that is a [ __ ] awful plan I've got a hi we got we've got a den they can't see you I'm going to put a

trash can over you and I think it's just a trash can walking around instead of you they're janitors they're doing what they know that's supposed so can I change my I'm [ __ ] hate this movie so much I I just like that part of the movie I like the movie overall yeah look there's enough good in here that I still enjoy I still did enjoy going to see I did too I did too and I hope that last I hope this is not it for Star Wars yeah look and and here's the thing I know we're being nitpicky and I'm sure and and feel please listeners do feel free to write in and and correctors on things like we we're you know we're not precious about it I am and I know we're being a little bit melodramatic and factious about things so please right in

noticed that on uh on news.com.au uh this morning um the headline is Star Wars The Last Jedi was [ __ ] awful all right good then so I just cuz one thing that I noticed and like I said I'm not I'm not saying this is a conspiracy or anything right but if you go to the Rotten Tomatoes page right it says that this film is 93% fresh right the critics love this film yeah and then the audience score 56 so very mixed right yeah Mo like slightly positive but mostly mixed but if you scroll down right critic reviews they're all positive because presumably they were all positive you can speculate on why that is if you want I've heard theories about it but I don't want to go there I

don't care but if you go down to audience reviews yeah it only shows positive reviews there as well really what's that about like that there's it shows four reviews on the a summary on the front page right if it's 56% there should be two positive two negative like yeah or or there should be at least one negative review showing up but there isn't it's all positive so what's going on there Rotten Tomatoes hey what's going on there well okay what was your favorite scene of the movie oh hands down the I enjoyed um when Ry went to to kylo Ren and they went to snoke I like that whole sequence the only thing that's actually my favorite sequence in the whole film up to you know with with

with them chatting afterwards and then Ray realizing that kylo Ren is is has different goals than her that was all great it was very deep and cool uh except that stupid bit where snoke makes raise lightsaber hit her in the head that was [ __ ] dumb and yeah that didn't need to be there that that and it removed a lot of tension from the scene and I feel like I would have enjoyed it even more had that not happened it was stupid we thing to get rid of the tension there but yeah Dan I think anytime kylo Ren was on screen I was okay with I think that Adam Driver is [ __ ] Fant that was great though can you please put a shirt on look every scene between Ray and kylo uh especially the scene where kylo tells her that her parents [ __ ] sold her

for beer money and they buried in a pora's grave like that was [ __ ] great y I agree okay mine apart from those would actually just be the star destroy blowing up oh yeah also great just the hit and then silence yeah that that was an amazing but that's the thing if you can pull that [ __ ] off why have we got [ __ ] Kermit the Frog in here as well like I don't is the tone of this movie is so inconsistent he's been very vocal saying that Disney didn't ask him to do anything and I wonder if it's just because he so well either that either yeah he did it on purpose or he just he's just perfectly aligned with them on on all of this stuff yeah like a nice little amount of cool stuff for us a nice little amount of [ __ ] dumb kid stuff for them he knew what he was

getting into and he knew how to how to play it yeah can work yeah yeah if that's what they aim for look they gave him a [ __ ] Trilogy yeah right and and also there's an article this week he pitch a story no they were talking afterwards and then he was like that was fun and then Kathleen Kennedy and the producers there were like yeah that was fun and he's like tell you what how about I make three more of them and they were all right the way he describes it was like it's the last day of school and everyone's going to miss each other and uh you go well we should keep in touch and that's how they're keeping in touch by making three more movies what's your least favorite bit in the film Luke what was your least favorite scene actually I'm going to go back to

Lando not being in it okay because that really like I even Lent over to Hannah and went that'll be Lando cuz honestly when you heard what they were doing and where they're going who were you expecting them to find yeah absolutely but then no well I wasn't because I knew Bish sheldor was in it and I was like oh that'll be his character well okay speaking of Lando that's the [ __ ] is with the space dice cuz I was going have I missed something I mean I'm assuming that's the dice that he won the Falcon from Lando originally with that might be something we see in um Solo solo mov here's the thing okay fine but if I'm not supposed to know and it's just supposed to be a mystery tell me that tell me I'm noted to

beused don't just let me if I've missed or I yeah they probably set that up so that in Solo everyone goes yeah which will make it sort of cool that it happened cuz I've read I've read that in a new hope uh there was something hanging and then they didn't bother including it in the next two or any oh okay um and then they decided to bring it back now so it's like at best very obscure reference but you know if you pick that up then uh I tip my hat to you yeah I think my least favorite moment was super layer in space I think I've made it perfectly clear that my least favorite moment involved milk the super layer over milk I feel like the milk milk was dumb and weird

but super layer I think undermines too much like that's not something the last she's a Jedi right it's I just it it shouldn't have been there no no no CU here's what they they're saying now is that you don't have to be a Jedi to use the force no that's true but like that they can't just survive in the vacuum of space like unconscious and then wake up like fly they can cuz she did what did you just say they can now you're right of course which means that she was never in any danger at any point in any movie that's true because she is Immortal she can breathe without oxygen and she can overcome death and so it's going to be really interesting to see how they come up with

a way of removing her from the next film yeah oh wow I'm just looking at pictures of the dice the dice were actually in the first movie as well okay yeah in the force awakens right okay so they have been building up to that and they just didn't bother explaining it I don't know if that's better or worse quite honestly I reckon yeah we will see it in Solo but anyway what Matt was saying we're finishing up well so we have to stop talking you don't have to no no you already started I'm tired I want to go to bed okay let you off the hook buddy off you go I was trying to figure out I'm like is he annoyed that I'm trying to stop or is he just does he want to stop I couldn't tell what it was like does he want to keep talking or does he want to

stop it's unclear to me well it's Star Wars I want to keep talking but then well look it's also 1:00 in the morning and I'm sleepy we're going to be talking about this for for the next month so sorry listeners I'm sure it's going to come up again cuz how many times have you seen it now just once I've only seen it once so far I'm going to go this week yeah okay probably see it again cuz I can see it for free so why not I saw this with my mate uh my mate Neil who who thinks that only Jedi can hold a lightsaber but um but he so when when we went to see it he had bought tickets to that night the next day and for the weekend right and then when the when the movie stopped and the lights came up I was going okay yeah not not great overall but some really good stuff and I

looked at him and he was like I [ __ ] hate it so I'll have to ask him if two more viewings of it that he'd already prepaid for uh made it better or worse I just didn't want to go see it again the opening weekend with so many people it's very long it's a very long movie and it feels long it's the longest Star Wars movie and but it feels long I wouldn't be surprised if it's the longest movie ever [Laughter] made once we get get the new cut it'll be a lot shorter exactly right and if they don't do it I will yeah the internet will like you can you can get improved versions of the prequels there'll be an improved version of this yeah and then someone will cut out all the stuff in force awakens that that

just got left hanging and then we'll end up with something somewhat serviceable perhaps to that rip Star Wars and uh join us next week oh I still love Star Wars keep reaching for that rainbow yeah it's it's no prequels it was prequel level humor yeah I agree it was too much prequel for my liking and actually I think I enjoyed watching this less than the prequels because at least with the prequels with Phantom Menace it was Star Wars so I didn't care I was getting Star Wars the other two I was like okay it's not as bad men exactly this is the first one that's been a real let down because it
