Indiana Jones and the Recliner of Retirement: Dial of Destiny Review

something amazing has happened this week the three of us have all watched the same movie and all watched the same TV show this never happens any in theaters in theaters it's like went on a date except we didn't I had to give myself a handy me too Luke really there's another thing D don't oh no you had someone with you yeah I was there with my friend and his child so I'm not even going to best we move on my lawyer has advised me not to comment he was also there he was there welcome to multiple nerdgasm with your hosts Matt Luke and Dan multiple nerdgasm your guide to All

Things nerdy but no we all went to the mov we all saw Indiana Jones and the dollar Destiny and I'll go first are we going to do spoilers just so I know um look there is something I want to ask about and it is a spoiler we don't necessarily have to name it um maybe we do what if we do General Impressions now and then at the end yes come back toss some spoilers out I'm gonna say I liked it I also liked it I like to Adit I've got I've got questions there were times where I was going to go down a path of trying to pick it apart or something but then I stopped and went it's just a

movie yeah just sit back and watch now it wasn't a necessarily good movie but it was enjoyable it was certainly better I think we can agree than kingdom of the Crystal Skull yes yes definitely my my major complaint with it is that it's too long yeah it did not need to be that long and the the middle in particular was that chase scene yeah we didn't need all actually keep that one lose the one in New York City that one didn't need to really it didn't need as many Chase scenes or yeah there was a lot of just aimless chasing scenes with no they didn't Advance the plot or anything yeah because the thing is uh in the other original Indiana Jones movies they have far fewer locations but the journey from one to the next they are being pursued

yeah it's exciting on the way somewhere not just this is just they turn up somewhere and the bad guys are there too so there's a Chase um which doesn't doesn't increase the tension in fact it pauses the action so you can watch a Chase sequence okay I think if they had cut shrunk them down or not had as many I think it would have the movie would have been the right length yeah mm look the beginning I was I was smiling I was like all right all right and in the middle I was like you've lost me a bit and in the end I was smiling again so yeah so we'll talk about the ending later obviously of course um the beginning I'd read a lot of reviews online that people said the flashback sequence was great as soon as it cut to present day they tuned out I disagree I

thought it was great but continued being great after that I think cutting from Indie at his best to old man Indie and this is for those who haven't seen it this is not kingom Crystal Skull old man Indie this is old man Indie yeah this is retirement from his shitty job goes back to his shitty apartment rides the subway old man Indie fortune and Glory he's an old man that's right I appreciated that they didn't in in Crystal Skull I'm just gonna turn my mic down a bit in Crystal Skull they had for my tastes too much of him as an older guy doing things he's not really would have been up for he swinging around too much fighting big people kind of thing none of that in this he's an old man yeah yeah Rides a

Horse he does stuff but it's like age appropriate horse with the riding the horse I even think he told the the stunt guy to like pull it back a bit like to try and get him to be ride a bit older not yeah yeah but I I still want to know because there's been a few articles about how like Phoebe like she's worse than you thought she would have been B was great in it she was absolutely fine she was absolutely F I do not know what people have against her here's the thing too if you didn't like her character that's fine because she's kind of an antagonist for most of to like her yeah until she redeems herself later in the film you know she's a Skelly wag yes but yeah I I got I got a shock about why people are s of having a go at her when

you know why Luke you know why yeah she has a vagina yeah and ind's not using it see capure is 10 times more irritating than Phoebe wallbridge but because he banged her it's like oh IND he got a bit away yeah yeah it's all right yeah also Spielberg he got in there it was a Tom Cruz movie he would have banged her I got some Tom Cruz news later but oh yeah I don't know there's a there's plenty of people he's not banging these days too I think he really does understand that no one wants to see a middle-aged man middleaged to elderly man banging young chicks no one wants to see that at least that's what they tell me did they I think he learned that from The Mummy didn't he who did he bang in the

mummy Nick Miller I never saw it but I never saw it but evidently the love interestes in that movie for Tom Cruz was like some like 20 years younger than him or something honestly I don't remember it's a very for movie I've forgotten basically all of that movie and I did watch it I know I watched it I know I didn't Jake Lloyd's in it right yeah Jake Lloyd really Jake Lloyd jaky not Jake Lloyd Jake Nick Miller who's that guy Jake Nick Miller I don't know his name it's not Jake Lloyd not Jake Lloyd are you an angel no I'm Tom Cruz well perhaps yes I [Laughter] am my Tom Cruz laugh and my Christopher lamber laugh are essentially the same laugh so that's their fault not yours thank you thank you that is support that's real support you know what occurred to me

today I was thinking about it um okay I'll give you the train of thought I was trying to think what ethnical background Indie has right like obviously is Anglo-Saxon or is it more Germanic or trying to think of the origin of the word jones you know and then I thought well his dad's Scottish so that's just the answer but then Ur to me sha Conor does not ever change his accent no matter what nationality he is playing that's true he's played a Spanish accented Egyptian oh Egyptian sorry yeah a Russian in uh that's right Hunt for Red October still just kept the Scottish accent even James Bond who's supposed to be just like you know marmalade British Scotland like he didn't ever even pretend yeah like James

M also Scottish I've never once heard him use his real accent in a movie yeah Christian Bale doesn't speak exactly wherever he's from Welsh or whatever he is yeah okay even when Christian Bale drops character in a movie and starts yelling at some guy he'll still do it ACC yeah he does character did you watch that interview with um Tom Holland that said that he was in Britain and he got hired to do an ad and they're like all all action and he's like this product blah blah blah and they're like sorry are you doing an American accent he's like oh sorry that's just my acting voice that's funny yeah well his is pretty convincing honestly not all of them yeah agree H Bennett Cumberbatch is a bit but he's just so cool it doesn't matter I am an American

man and other aside have you seen that clip where Harrison Ford tells Benedict Cumberbatch that he's a big fan no they're both on the couch it must be gram Norton and um Harrison Ford and Benedict and then Harrison Ford just goes I've got to stop here and just tell you I'm just such a big fan of yours and uh Benedict come back he like what and I've got to take a minute guys Dan I have some news for you I've done some research Indiana Jones is Scottish okay there you go all right the Jones are a family of paternal Scottish descent okay okaying to So based on on Sean connory yes is there more evidence though than beyond that Henry and Jones is definitely like you know anglosaxon in some way so it

makes sense he be Scottish speaking of backgrounds is not a spoiler I just wanted to say I really liked ma Mickelson in this yes in dollar Destiny and that scene when the guy delivers the food and he's like oh where you from yeah and I was like oh do that pleas mate and I'm like no he's such a good NY because he's like was characterization not just I mean he did also say some evil things but there was just the way he behaved was just like he's a [ __ ] and we'll get into a bit more later yeah yeah yeah I was about to say spoiler um I still think this suffered uh from what Crystal Skull did in terms of too many digital

enhancements however yeah I agree much much more subtle much more subdued than Crystal Skull yeah yeah arguably a lot more practical right but a few too many fake backgrounds for my personal text I agree 100% necessarily they were at some beautiful locations I just don't know why they didn't just film those I suspect perhaps Ford is an 80-year old man and you just you got to shoot him indoors most of the time conditioning like maybe it's as simple as that yeah I don't mean patronize him no no no actually I think it just comes down to just cheaper but you're there anyway there's outdoor shots but maybe that's a second unit are they there yeah exactly like they probably just filmed

most of this on a lot somewhere I've watched an interview today it just cropped up in insta but it was uh red carpet Harrison Ford and some journalist smartass journalists Australian I think goes to him uh Mr Ford what's it like playing an angry old man at the end of his [Laughter] career what' he say he just stared at him it was amazing I like Carris affording interviews I think if he if he's getting along with the interviewer he's very funny if he's not [ __ ] God help that interviewer yeah you're talking even if you do get on but he just thinks it might be funny to wind you up you will be wound up yeah that all the the I guess interview cycle for

blade run of 249 when it was Harris and Ryan Gosling Ryan I cannot believe how funny they are together yeah to and like I mean if I was interviewing them I'd be like please continue this is go yeah that's I'm going to sit back and you guys just talk um but I can see that might be annoying if you actually want to ask them questions yeah yeah interview each other yeah so need to ask is is this it for Harrison Ford is he or do we think or there more no he's promised this is not it for him it's just it for Indie yeah he's not gonna do Indiana Jones anymore but he's gonna act until he physically can't I think is what he said so he's gonna do like a Sean Connor and just once he calls it just disappear slap someone and then die yeah he's going to start in League of

Extraordinary Gentlemen 2 as as the quarter main character yeah in an Indiana he is he is decades older than connory was when he played his dad because I think I think Conor was 13 years older than Harrison Ford when they played in that film anyway he he wasn't as old as we thought he was Harrison's never been young for us he's always start he was in his yeah yeah we've never seen 20-year-old Harrison Ford in anything no just those photos of him as a roie for the doors that's what he was doing when he was 20 he was smart though he was talking about again old interviews coming up because of that IND cycle or whatnot talking about how because we know he was a carpenter we've talked about that

before but the reason he was doing that is because he was smart he watched all of his other active colleagues oh my God so when he goes That's the cup of a carpenter you reckon was noticing that from his own personal experience that was unscripted Dan he [Laughter] like he knew if he could just Outlast all of his competition in Hollywood eventually he he'd make it so he was like what's a skill I have I'm a carpenter I will work as a carpenter in that area a lot better than being like a waiter yes exactly more consistent live off The Carpenter's weight actual money yeah like a wife and kids at that point too and he was working for people in

Hollywood not just in a you know kind of in a restaurant but in their homes and things the rumor is that he used to be the one to go to if he wanted to have like his secret drugs compartment built in jacuzzi I mean if I was going to get a if I was the kind of guy who had a Jacuzzi I probably wanton a drug compartment as well yeah and you'd want Harrison for to make it for you yeah yeah absolutely still to this day even today yeah and it reminds me of Anie remember that story about Anie when he he started that company before he' even started a film uh European chimney repairs or something like that because he knew that people were into European brick he didn't know how to build a chimney he was just a big man but and he wanted a job that got him outside and

was lifting things yeah and he got all his was that he'd he he'd go over to the and talk to the person and say ah we can't do it for that little let me go talk to my mate and then they'd go and speak in German to one another knowing full well they' take whatever money they were offer it come back he like okay we might do it for this this but he says he doesn't want to you know yeah and they just had this fullon business going yeah he was and then he bought all the real estate in saner and then he didn't need to work at all anymore yeah again because that's where he was hanging out at the beach and then he became a movie star because he could because he didn't have to do anything else as a hobby he became the biggest star in the world

yeah yeah interesting SM I mean smart guy yeah I told you I watched the Terminator a couple of week ago um I like Anie and just about everything is in however I will say James Cameron is one of the few people who knows what an's specific strengths are which is looking tough and not saying anything like you believe that that's not an Austrian accent but a robot voice in that movie whereas in every other movie you're like where is he from like why does he you know like you mentioned Commando before it was like is this an Austrian expat working for the American Military yeah I've never thought of that yeah I think it worked well in Conan though oh sure oh yeah yeah yeah he punches a Samaran

accent yeah prove it's not yeah uh I liked the tone of Indie I thought the tone was right Y in a funny way I thought the the closest other Indie tonally speaking is fate of Atlantis oh sure rather than one of the films yeah the game because it's kind of got that Global feeling like Temple of Doom the whole thing set in one one place you know what I mean it's all in India Raiders is almost all in uh Egypt yeah uh this one's all over the place and it's almost a series of fetch quests find this and that'll help you find this and then this other thing quite glob Troy like yeah one

thing one thing I I found quite weird about with it being very glob Troy troppy it's the word yeah I can say it is they didn't have the and the red ink very often no just the one shot with the it whereas it's weird because they did travel around a lot but there's only one map true yeah and I was looking for that I'm trying I'm trying to remember if they overused it in Crystal Skull because I think Crystal Skull was a a cautionary tale to them because this pretty much tried to do the opposite of everything in that movie this they used it so late in the movie it would have made more sense to maybe if you're going to use it once use it earlier I would agree with that be going where is it one other disappointment I have with this I feel

like John Williams phoned it in nothing super memorable yeah this the most memorable stuff was the existing done yeah yeah where they brought back you know well characters and themes and things like that oh that's the music that I'm associate with that but there's no what's the been trying to retire for a long time like the Ark of the Covenant has a theme the Holy Grail has a theme uh there's a theme there's various themes in Temple Temple Doom's music is [ __ ] awesome oh it's stuck in there but this just let the man retire he wants to retire let him go yeah yeah they pulling him out of retirement to make one last I wonder if he even did it he just said you know have a go and I'll I'll approve it when it's fine to his team yeah yeah because

it's all existing themes that he'd written already yeah I actually I'll be interested I'll check the soundtrack on Spotify maybe maybe it was just like down in the mix of something I just felt like there wasn't like I was expecting a theme for the McGuffin because he usually Indiana Jones usually has that but but I think Al the McGuffin was watered down by Like You could argue first that that tablet they had to find was like a a Proto McGuffin sure like would it have had its own theme and then the actual device had its own theme and then maybe it's because the arc is so Central to Raiders of the Lost Arc that anytime they get near it the music swells the theme comes in you know that's Elite Motif whereas this movie didn't really ask for that kind of yeah

I suppose so recognition I don't I don't know mentioned M mson he he was so good I I love his style in this too I love his [ __ ] clothes I mean to a point we'll go to the end later he's so [ __ ] stylish you know yeah um but I also like that he is kind of you know we talked about last week about how belloc in Raiders is like the same as Indie but just on the opposite side of the coin they've brought this back in he's an intellectual you he's a scientist he wants to find this for his own personal motives um but also we now have one three and five with Nazis because every time they do one without them it's not as good and

then the next one they're like put the nais back back in yeah we like to see him punching Nazis I I still I love the motivation for I about say I love the motivation for the naris though I it's a different spin on yes very much wants to do we'll get we'll go specifics at the end too yeah yeah no I I was pleasantly surprised by's move on to something else because we're going to come back to this and I keep getting very close to saying a spoiler no worries I'll just well let me just say listeners I think it's good if you're an Indi Jones fan I think it's definitely worth checking out if you're not sure I think it's worth your time just go just go it's fine I'm as I watch Temple Doom

Raiders watch it's because you're a 40y old man you're not a 10y old child anymore right you know what I should to do the M today okay Luke thanks thanks it was from from Last Crusade to Kingdom of the Crystal Skull was 19 years from um Crystal Skull to this was 15 really yeah and it just like Disturbed it's not so not like not such a big it's a similar Gap that's interesting yeah for some reason it feels that feels longer between like the first three in definitely like a lot longer I don't mean like it's years longer up gentlemen we got more behind us than a hit yeah speak for yourself look before we get off movies um movie news lots more uh I I watched something this week and I don't know why I hadn't watched this before and after I

watched it I don't know why this isn't a bigger thing have you guys seen 65 dri yeah versus dinosaurs it is excellent is it see I think I heard that it was garbage absolute seriousness there's nothing Camp about this movie right like you would be tempted to Godzilla this up a little no no no no no this is terrifying this is a man crashed lands on Earth 65 million years ago on the day the asteroid is coming to wipe out the dinosaurs yeah right the world pod no he just has to get the [ __ ] off it's excellent Adam Driver is a [ __ ] star and as I was I must admit I

was watching this he did this little smirk and I was like man he's got almost a young Harrison Ford look have they ever been in a movie together and I started to Google and then I was like of course they have of course they [ __ ] have um this movie is dead set excellent okay all right and this this is obviously a visual effects Extravaganza except they never draw attention to themselves H like the only reason you know there must be CGI is because you can't get dinosaurs you know not yet and spaceships Etc no I think you both really like this one of on we spoke about it when it was coming out and saying like we all wanted to go see it I just one as one that s slipped off the radar this should have

been the biggest movie of the year I I heard that it wasn't good I'm sure I did so I kind of dismissed it yeah okay yeah minute one he's on a ship crashing into Earth like they don't waste any time there is no fat on this movie also have a guess how long the movie goes for the runtime hour and a half 90 minutes exactly that's perfect yeah they went feature length no extended sequence there's history but there's no [ __ ] two hours max yeah yeah no it's it's excellent P it on this I might watch that today after I finish watching Silo if you don't like it I'll eat my [ __ ] hat which one I'll get a hat and I'll eat it we get to pick which one yeah yeah my

y so you're watching Soo now Luke I am I'm up to episode eight so I think I've got two more left yeah yeah another first in a long time that we've all watched a show at the same time we're all enjoying it and you're right it's so you're watching but you don't you don't know where it's going I was talking to Jenna and I were talking to a friend last night about it because he also watched it and he reminded me of things and I was like oh yeah they're gonna have to follow up on that and and I just got more and more excited about like more of it because it's just like I've forgotten that there were these other things that yeah yeah it's just so interesting like you don't know I have a theory well that's the thing have you

finished Luke Tu episodes okay I'll give away absolutely nothing but even the things they do explain you still go well that could mean a number of things like there's no definitive answers that's what I liked about it it's like very satisfying because you find out what you wanted to find out you go oh hang on a minute yeah that's right yeah okay that mystery solved or is it the reason what I think my theory is is because they're in the sil they don't know why they don't remember and everything that's sort of a relic to the passo from cuz that it's it is Earth it is it's America like there's all the Relic you see stuff from America my is is they went down they built this side because of some Earth

event and they the reason why they started to get rid of all these things of reminding people the outsides because people want to go outside and it is just dangerous out there and having that hope that maybe you one day go leads to problems so if you suppress that it's easier to keep people under control yeah well it's like that that myth of Utopia you know it's Thomas Moore wrote it in the you know whatever the 15th century and then again Alex Garland with the Beach you know if you have this perfect Society yeah you have to murder anyone who disrupts it or it's no longer perfect peach was a good movie and there's only like 10,000 people in there so to did you know that was Alex Garland I didn't until you said that yeah it didn't direct it Danny Bo directed it

gin wrote it okay okay I didn't know I I yeah okay so like 10,000 people is not a lot and if you start to separate it's very hard cuz everyone has their own job and if you don't all work together it all falls apart but you can't have extra people in there because you can't support that either so it's yep so I think the people who are in control keeping them don't really understand why just have to wait see wait I'll find out you will find out some things but I can't it's great I'm upset that there's only two more episodes I wish I had to waited till the whole season was out cuz not like I'm watching it like back to back to back but I'm watching it and I'm enjoying it and I'm yeah I'm now no I'm watching I'm still watching an episode

at a time because I get distracted and I play games sure and then I'll miss stuff yeah because I'm working on becoming seventh in Australia yeah yeah yeah I am I think about 40,000 away from being okay so my entire game I was about to say to me that's a lot but I know to you it's not I mean it's still a hurdle but you've done you've done leaps I think I don't think I'm even at 40,000 I think I'm Hospital need to SP a couple of weeks in hospital no I've now sort of burned all of the quick and easy games that's can I give you my gamer score no you cannot you might surprise you you have more than that you have 57,000 Larry Nelson

James ceron whether he meant to or not confirm them because he said he was asked in an interview why he sold their house in uh in in California yes and he said well on Avatar I'm working in Wellington and Los Angeles but then on the new Elita movies I'm going to be in Austin so it didn't make sense anymore and then everyone was like new alah movies yeah so good stuff I am looking forward to that he's not going to be the director is he is he planning on just producer no he didn't direct the first one it was Robert Robert Rodriguez yeah Mr inconsistent himself yeah yeah he's got uh another movie out at the moment that I've completely forgot the name of

with Ben Affleck in it uh oh okay but I know with the first Elita um not that didn't it did it did okay at the box office they did like 400 million or something like it did enough that he said we might be able to make more yeah didn't do as much as they were hoping I think it got a lot of love after the movie came out as well cuz I didn't see it till a lot l i I watched a trailer later because somebody had said oh this movie was under was underrated and I watched the trailer and I was like that looks [ __ ] incredible and then I watched and really enjoyed it so I'm happy okay but maybe I was just in the wrong frame of mind I'd happily watch another one H you know you just said Luke something that sparked you said that it picked up uh

popularity later yeah I watched a video essay uh recently on The Disappearance of the Home Video Market including VHS and more DVD even more about how a movie could do badly at the cinema but do so well in the Home Market that it eventually then get sequels Kevin career that will never happen again because you don't get residuals from streaming I mean people are on strike now trying to but you know what I mean like you don't you don't make money other than your initial sales of streaming so it's not like things will gain momentum anymore than they used to that seems a little bit wrong doesn't it or does it I don't know I don't understand money we can talk about the strike in

that actually we've got a bunch of news related to it so strikes plural yeah strik Point yeah if you haven't heard listeners the writers have been on strike for two months now and then now the actors are onri M so I guess we're going to have to wait for all sorts of movies and TV shows and everything yeah next next couple years are not going to be great for movies and TV oh we're gonna get so much reality TV yeah yeah so Deadpool 3 they've shut down uh Mission Impossible that's disappointing because you know those great photo set photos from Deadpool have come out showing Wolverine finally in the yellow outfit the cast of up walked out of the premere to go on strike oh wow yeah I mean they presum they people knew they were going to do

it but it was kind of a now they're not striking for their own benefit right they're striking to support the writers or are theying too they're striking for their own as well now and because a lot of people are saying [ __ ] Rich celebrities I haven't got enough money and it's like well no it's not about them it's about everybody else who's yeah it's it's yeah that's right because barg is the the one strength that unions have and because the the it the association of motion pictures or whatever just yesterday or today put out that uh contract basically they wanted to make this deal where if you're a um an extra what do they call them background actor or whatever you go in for one day they scan you into the computer and then they can just use you

in films forever and you don't get paid anything what yeah they were trying to get the the guil to AG that and it was like [ __ ] off no thank you I mean that's what that Black Mirror episode was about so you get paid for one day of work one day and then your career is just done because how the [ __ ] are you ever gonna get any more work after that yeah yeah see this is why I I'm not liking the direction of AI it's he just getting rid of writers actors everyone but thought it was going to kill us all and and take over the world and robots were going to rise up no it's just it's just [ __ ] up our entertainment industry one like don't worry that's not going to happen and then they literally are like this is what we'd like to do and it's like of

course they said that like yeah well it's even like with the new apps out there that um could like use someone's mimic someone's voice like that's going to take away jobs from voice actors I saw somebody made on it was a YouTube video somebody made it's Johnny Cash singing Barbie Girl yeah I heard that yeah it is incredible it's not Johnny Cash but you wouldn't know it just sounds like Johnny Cash singing Barbe this one I so if it was a Barbie girl it's [ __ ] great and I think there's a big difference between someone doing the voice and acting that out like so the miming devices just program it into a computer and going do it I think there's a huge difference and you're very Pro human being Luke it's not crazy isn't

it interview the other day head of Disney [ __ ] was he didn't have a lot of nice things to say about the strikes he which I guess he's he's a business yeah his point of view is basically you are gonna [ __ ] this industry if you all go on strike yeah and also I think what he was saying is that yeah but he he said their demands are unrealistic which yeah and I think his point is that everyone has had to make allowances yeah and sacrifices postco and in the streaming era streaming is not profitable for anybody it's just not and so they still haven't figured out how how is this going to work like this system doesn't work we're all just pretending

everything's fine but it's not yeah we as audiences demand it and as we've discussed so many old filmmakers and stuff are begging us to go back to the cinema and we're like no yeah well they're not going to make movies anymore eventually continues that's the bottom line I think that I I think that's the future like you don't have that traditional format anymore I think that they certainly won't be the $400 million budget movies well and then Nicholas winning Reen came out this week and he said that he said that and he said and good let's just [ __ ] burn it down see what happens all right M that's yeah I mean that's danger is it you have a movie that goes for an hour and a half two hours that costs $400 million and then we'll have a television show like Silo which we're

all loving which has how many hours and probably costs less than that in total yeah 100% it would have yeah there's no way how does that work yeah yeah arguably now aru Soo is better than a lot of movies that are coming out yes yeah oh yeah yeah and a lot cheaper and look Indie I I liked Indie but it wasn't a good movie I'm not going to say it was a good movie it was and the thing is I know it wasn't because this week I watched a couple of really good movies and in fact Matt one of them was on your recommendation because I went watch Jack Reacher and it is [ __ ] great it's good movie and I hadn't seen it I'd seen the shitty Sequel and I also watched that again this week and it's very [ __ ] still enjoyed it I still enjoyed it but man tonally it's it's not even remotely

cinema cinema it's it's basically like a straight to DVD sequel different director um completely different tone weird editing weird pacing really just not as good but yeah that Jacker is dead set good movie Again movie couldn't trim anything out of there's no fat on that movie you know interesting main character interesting plot interesting villain is it played by the same person or is it yeah Tom Cruz again okay yeah so that's the only thing that carries over and uh KOB at the start it comes up a Tom Cruz film of the sequel ah so maybe it's that whole thing where Tom Cruz got his hands on it a little bit more call

the yeah um I watched another good good movie this week too and this is an old one I just I'll just shout it out um do you guys remember The Thomas Crown Affair yeah with from the9 yeah so I reckon you could you could if you tacked on a [ __ ] title sequence onto this you could just say this was a James Bond movie because this is he's as much playing James Bond in this as as in any of his Bond movies it's just a great movie original concept I mean know it's a remake before you write in but an original concept um you know just just a solid story again 90 minutes here are the stakes here's the protagonist here's the Ant And as here's the conclusion bam wasn't that good like there's no excuse for for all these I mean I know it's easy to rag on

superhero movies at the moment but just like you come out of so many of them you go that was fine I guess but like yeah they're all the same now yeah like literally they're all the same now that's James gun said that the problem is that they're all just saying the same [ __ ] what they should have done for the Marvel ones is just endgame stopped yeah I love game but I'll never watch it again not cuz I'm boycotting but it's just not the kind of it's just got no replayability like what was what was the one before endgame um Infinity War Infinity War yeah yeah like it was also good I couldn't tell you what happened in that one as opposed to endgame like it was just the conclusion to a very long Saga as Luke said it was a very

very good ending walk away I think the problem we've got now is a lot of the actors that we know they're all sort of moving on retiring so they all a lot of movies now are he's going to be who's going to be the new person and that and that and that and I'm I I think that's where it's struggling bit so if they had have stopped and then just start again pick a new don't startop V man startop with a different one and pick a new storyline and just play it out again well James Gunner said that is what he's doing with Superman yeah because people got confused which is fair because he is continuing over some actors in roles but the character will be reset so even though it's the same person as a character don't don't you know for example I think margar Robbie

may still be Harley Quinn none of the films you've seen are relevant they don't exist I can sort of see that because she is good at Harley Quinn yeah's and she's enjoying doing that makes money too gal may stay or may not she you know they'll probably get a feeling for how people feel say that but I think Wonder Woman 2 the second one yeah was the third biggest money loser after the Flash and one other all of the superhero movies I guess depends on that whether that's her fault or or his perception I just don't think she's as big a draw as no I don't think that's her fault it's that movie was sort of set which didn't

quite make sense because remember like when she was first introduced it's hey you haven't been around since like World War I and there oh except for this time in the 80s where you were running around doing all this stuff like itas on you and stuff yeah and even though they did try to go oh she broke them so it's fine it's it's really come on I didn't mind that movie I'll say I didn't mind it the second one I Haven seen it yeah I thought the second one was better than the first one because I thought the first one took itself way too seriously for what it was and the second one knew it was garbage and just went let's just be cheesy and cam maybe I should watch it well the reason people were asking James G about this is because the news came out about the rest

of the cast for Superman man including um yes uh [ __ ] him I can't think of his name Nathan fillian Nathan fillian as the green lanon yeah what I I knew it was K you know Green lanon L he is Luke and then everybody was like hang on a minute he's already in Suicide Squad as that character and then James was like no no no yeah none of that exists anymore we're rebooting he even said you could watch no they've made it and they've said you can watch this without having seen season one or the movie and it doesn't make the slightest difference but don't know mate just a different Adventure this is not helping James and what also is not helping is we're still getting the Joker Sequel and we're the Batman

sequel oh yeah good point the Robert patson one and isn't the Joker one a musical yes apparently it makes sense somehow well I think Luke had a good theory that if it's set in a mental institution could be some kind of extended not dream hallucination or you know um psychotic episode but like that the thing that concerns me is they say it's like a we've heard it's going to be musical which is the difference between a musical and being a musical scene true except that they've cast lady gagar yeah I'm know she's done some acting but I know she was in like American Horror

Story i' never saw it was she any good in that I didn't see that but I saw I stopped watching American Horror Story before was born yeah I heard she was that movie that they keep making every 20 years yeah yeah it was very good it was very very good actually like if you just was good in it yeah yeah but she played like a pop star but it's not like she had to act you know what I mean I mean no that's I don't mean to be uh diminishing but but she was playing like a stretch for as a role sort of thing yeah doesn't mean she doesn't mean yeah Anyan doesn't require she was perfectly convincing that she's familiar with how to behave that way yeah yeah yeah yeah one more movie news I wanted to talk about before we move on is that

people are apparently loving Oppenheimer I saw the trailer before Indie last night and it reminded me that I really can't wait to see this movie I might go and see it this Wednesday if it's out no it won't be oh wait what day it is yeah it is it does come out next week comes out the 20th um that's exciting I am sick of hearing that there's a rivalry between this and the Barbie movie because there really isn't are you you really think that people were the same audience were going oh [ __ ] I was going to go see Oppenheimer but the Barbie movies out as well like surely this is two completely different demographics I am going to go see the Barbie movie so H and I have discussed that maybe we'll go to the

movies at the same time and then she'll go into Barbie and I'll go into Oppenheimer yeah from what I've seen is there sort of saying people saying like if you love Barbie you'll love this movie if you don't like Barbie you'll love this movie I don't know anything about Barbie mean you is there a law is there like is it just um um you you know the law of Barbie there's Barbie and there's K Ken yeah yeah there do seem to be some jokes about that in the film are they gonna is there gonna be a joke about him not having a dick because that's literally all I know about Ken that's all I know about Ryan goling he doesn't have a dick but like what the whole movie seen Dick they get sucked into the real world and then they have to deal with that is

that what it is oh great great so it's it's Masters of the Universe from 1985 all over again a Mattel property and I am hoping I'm I'm almost ready tobie starring the great Frank lella Frank don't tell me what I can and can't touch lella skor um we need to support the Barbie movie because it's just occurred to me that Mattel own also own He-Man and we want them to think that their old 80s properties are worth money now and there are rumors about that happening please please do and we want a good He-Man movie because we got screwed over the first time really did I don't know what you're talking about that He-Man movie from the 80s is awesome man even I was like six years old and loved He-Man went and saw

that I'm like this isn't He-Man I liked it I don't know what you guys are talking about was nothing I I was to say when he going I know He-Man the C and I went in this has nothing to do with he it might be a good movie but it's not about He-Man not He-Man I knew I think when I was a kid I was just happy to watch anything yeah um Oppenheimer yeah people have been R about it last week everyone came out and and started talking about the prolonged nudity and I don't know what that is but yeah I'm I can't wait to find out yeah same yeah also prolonged just means it goes for a long time like people are like [ __ ] how graphic is this like well probably not that graphic for a long time yeah zoom in on Killian Murphy's dick do we know what type of

nudity yeah I think as as the explosion happens he becomes rigid yeah and it just bursts through his PS and because every time he thinks about it he also he gets erected and because half the movie is from his subjective point of view it's just a comes in and he says when he talking about this bomb and he's like go on excuse me I've just come do we we didn't talk about this and we don't need to go on about it because I don't want to be creepy but I could I saw an article about this Jennifer Lawrence comedy that she just she spends like a whole scene nude in it oh like and she just literally just got a gear off because at this point everybody's

seen her naked on the internet what's it I don't know um just typ in Jennifer laen this is the one that's based off um it's called she's no hard feelings so I think an erection pun I think the idea of this movie is there there's an add in newspaper for come and take my son's virginity before he goes to UNI type of thing and she's the one who comes to take it or she's the mom I think that's it on the brink of losing her childhood home A desperate woman agrees to date a wealthy couple's introverted and awkward 19-year-old H and apparently yeah there's just scene where she was just like yeah no ways I'll just did the whole scene naked and W you see everything everything don't want be

weird by like yeah I mean you are right she get very publicized during the so-called fappening yeah but uh I just not would that doesn't mean that I mean all actresses are like well [ __ ] it now I guess I'm just nude from now on that's what I'm saying though it just that that doesn't happen so much usually what happens is cu actually the I watched this uh Witch is season 3 first half that's out and uh one thing that that everyone's been noting first of all everyone's complaining about something that happens in it we don't need to talk about it yet I assume you guys haven't seen it I'll just finish season two got watch actual kiss in it that that's apparently outraged all the [ __ ] knobs on the internet I mean is it one of the openly

homosexual characters like it's a character who should anyone there two characters who in the books are not which is why they're saying that they're it's it's why it's why people are saying they're upset correct yes it's the reason they're upset but the other thing is that there's no nudity in it which is the other thing that people mention and only because and this is the kind of the with um Amelia Clark of Thrones season one everybody's naked season two they're all big celebrities nobody say can they yeah and me more so many naked extras right season later Seasons no naked main cast so that's why it just surprised me that

someone with the the profile of Jennifer Lawrence is just like sure whatever in a comedy yeah like not in a Ser pretty sure there was a paycheck with it it's not it's kind of movie budget movie that's what I'm saying it's just anyway we don't have to go on about it it's just I have something for I'm gonna go a movies this Wednesday should I seeies should I see no hard feelings or should I see Transformers rise of the beasts or Oppenheimer or Barbie's not out yet I'm let's just leave it at that yeah care for sh abff it's called rise of the Beast and that's what he calls his dick yeah sh is not sh's not back though is he sh sh doesn't get hired for

same but I've still got questions so where do we want to start so let's sum up let's sum up what what the movie the movie's about they trying to find this dial that Arians built dial of Destiny which Pres assume is something that finds like time temp space time that can help you travel through time yes yeah and Ms migon wants to go back to 1939 just before the war to assassinate Hitler so that somebody better than Hitler can do the wartime stuff because he knows has taken extensive notes on all the mistakes that were made and he will do it correctly and he actually one of the things he actually does says in

the movie like America didn't win the ballit lost it lost and he says it in that great scene that Matt referenced before where he's basically just like chewing out this black delivery guy just for existing yeah Prime Nazi example yeah that's right um and so he wants to do that and then because of either one of two things that happen that's not where they end up going right because when they're on their way to do that Indie I guess either figures out or he knew at some point that Archimedes existed in a time before they had learned about continental drift and so that actually over the thousands of years in between the locations are wrong but that

actually meant nothing then that wasn't the reason that wasn't right because made it so that anyone would come back to him he made it what I'm confused why did they have that entire thing about continental drift because in my head like you Matt that was still what was the problem because I was like what a [ __ ] coincidence then that they ended up at this one spot yeah no that was I think that was more so J trying to think of like don't do it don't go back talk out of try and talk him out of it I don't think yeah because convoluted it messed it up it made it way too messy yeah and I know I've talked about this on the podcast before they lost left an opportunity on the table as well I felt because when they find aredes he's

wearing a watch and they go that's weird he takes the watch off mads melson's character later on and I was thinking what they should have done what I would have done is had he that had mads Mickelson take the watch from Archimedes pop it on go through the thing Archimedes takes it off him pops it on yeah yeah yeah exactly because I was like that would been cool yeah um I also think I don't know I I was expecting it to be Indy's watch not ma melson's watch too like that also just would have made more of a connection for me if they had the same watch on you know what I mean like it would just it would would be a also rumors that they reshot the ending and I have a sneaking

suspicion that originally Indie did stay there and that was how end he was just in time um and then somebody went you know we keep saying we're not going to do another one but let's be honest maybe we will so we don't want him to literally oh I do there something else we have can confirm mut is dead he's dead yeah worried we were gonna bring him back at the end and actually I realized thinking about it today that's not off the table because Indie still has the dial at the end yes but the dial only goes to one place it does it yes well we we don't know that they're making a lot of so here's the thing I think the thing is that see this is the problem it's that it's too convoluted but I think the problem I

think the the the gimmick is the dial can point to any Fisher that can take you to any time except Archimedes made that that one always points to him yes but if you if you hacked it somehow you can go change it because yeah he he it was it was it was a device to get people to come and help yes yeah now you mentioned because they have that whole scene where where Phoebe wallbridge is doing the magic trick to force the card so that later she can use that as a way to kind of get the audience to wrap their heads around what the [ __ ] we're talking about yeah where a forced hand and then but then I actually didn't get the impression that that was definite I think I thought she was just like maybe that's how this works I got the feeling it was

a this is the problem is find where India says I see what you've done you've you've this was a call for help to bring people back here to help you and he says yes that was given way less weight in the film than the scene about continental drift yes which is why we all left going well hold on yeah remove that it was unnecessary well there's a lot of fluff to be honest in it we could have done without honestly I could have done without all of that stuff about her fiance or whatever it was like oh yeah that didn't need to be there her little short round very cute also just could have written him out of the whole mie I think that her short round was better than the CIA

agent they through she was there was that they killed her off and there was there was no point to her but you move heard nothing changes the whole middle of the movie could have been trimmed down by like an hour honestly so you guys want to hear the best suggestion ever so I I saw this movie with with list Grant right when M melson announced that his plan his evil dusted plan was to go back in time you think he's gonna go back and help him for most of the movie and then he says oh no no I'm gonna kill yeah yeah yeah Grant thought and this is [ __ ] genius Grant thought that that meant Indie would have to go back in time to save Hitler's life so that the future will

continue the way it has that should have been the ending and when he told me that we were walking out and he was like you know what I thought was going to happen and he said that I was like well that's what should have [ __ ] happened imagine that imagine the irony in that I don't think they're going to make a movie where Indiana Jones goes back in time to SA unless unless refused because they did make that movie and one day we'll get to see it Spielberg was in daes and went is he is he saving Hitler I should have read this that was sign really should to the end that would have been great have a feeling that's not the case um that scene where Salah drives Indie to the airport and goes I've

brought my I've brought my passport because I'd actually like to come on this adventure with you and's like no no he's actually come out and said like he feels like he was underutilized and he would have yeah I think that was all aded I think it was like well Alo Sol comes along right yeah cuz that s doesn't make any sense right from a movie passort yeah that was John re Davies out of character going if you guys are going to [ __ ] J I can come with you but it sort of would have made sense to take him yeah it would have yeah I do love that he at first I laugh because he's a cab driver in New York now and I was like come on but then he explains he actually says oh this is IND who brought us here you know during the war yeah I was

like New York than a successful person in like yeah Middle East yeah yeah yeah I was like that's a bit knows and then and then oh no actually that that follows people on the internet going who is he still having kids like I'm pretty sure they were his grandkids right yes yeah I think he even says does yeah he says his daughter lets him watch something on TV I forget what that's right yeah yeah no I loved that I loved all of that I thought it was nice even at the end the the the schaly ending where spoilers Karen AR comes back in um it made me very like sad honestly in a way because I was like it was too real yeah yeah because just because it's it's Indiana

Jones and then this is this is how his story ends yeah because also in Crystal Skull which is it's Cannon right he gets fired from his university job where he's like a 10e professor and now he's working at just some Community College you know like it's it's it's a real downhill slope and like and then Karen Allen comes in and I mean you know Karen Allen in the 80s yeah Karen Allen now it's like it's just not come on what what I mean is it's just not he's an 80-year old man he doesn't want it to be no no I I'm GNA say I felt like she aged a lot between it's not the same like it just doesn't feel as like like handsome man and the Beautiful Woman it's kind of like look at these old people living in that apartment

like anymore no fortune Glory just he just lives his neighbors with the baseball bat to turn thep when he puts the magnet over her face on the fridge and then in the end when she is there he just casually slips it back off so good but also it really when you watch Raiders now like she is the love of his life yeah and I mean that because like first off he molested her as a child so we know that happened she was 14 years old yeah then they had that Affair again when they were 20 something and and and that that ended and then in the flashbacks sequences he has pictures of her so we know that he's kept her on his mind like so we've seen him in these 20s 30s and 40s and now 50s and 60s you

know what I mean like she's the one I I wasn't [ __ ] on her I was just no I'm not defending I'm just saying like don't look 20 forever Matt end of the Last Crusade into theer right yeah like more adventures and that wasend perfect ending yeah and more Adventures they right off literally right off into the sunset but then now no he that movie is literally called The Last Crusade yeah alone and then those kids are gonna find him when they smell him two weeks later I just yeah it just made me go okay yeah well um why was watching that uh follow-up series to Sex in the City which also you forget right yeah the moment they're elderly women and it's depressing because like if

you've I mean I've seen the odd episode of Sex in the City I know it's about young women partying in New York City yeah they have cocktails they've all got great jobs and good romances and one night stands and stuff these are just old women sad old women like it's really depressing yeah I don't know why you'd want to watch that but then again we just watched IND version of it so yeah and like not to say yeah I don't know I don't know how would his story end obviously it's just it's just odd to see it you know and it's almost like do we need this we definitely didn't and they didn't the studio thought they were gonna make some money and they really didn't but at the end of the day I enjoyed it no no I did enjoy it it just

I'm I'm happy we got it we didn't need it said shab buff was dead without even giving him so much as a cameo or flashback was it was like in [ __ ] that last James Bond when they're like blow f n he's dead mate he is could have been worse the way that he tells it when he gets he gets upset and he's like choking up saying it I was like okay all right at least you did it not in true but didn't you get a sense of that remember Homer Simpson's dog character in inchie and Scratchy in The Simpsons then everyone hated and yeah and he's he died and and then it's like the the studio will promise that he will never return like that's what it seemed like on his way to his home planet it did sound like it was like a throwaway line at the start where it's like like when

they're trying to sort of frame him for the murders that he's from his wife and his son just died and then then they actually went into like well you change time was nice and yeah yeah yeah yeah okay well so yeah I really enjoyed the scene at the end towards the end when they they got to the plane and everybody popped on their Nazi uniforms cuz I was like yeah like that hey that's quite funny because but then of course they thought they were going 1939 right you guys all kept those you guys had those this whole time yeah amazing you didn't put on any weight I I jacket I had 20 years ago I think they they looked fresh like that that was new material they got them freshly made some
