Um or with friends, but like not with Jenna. Uh so, anyway, yes, we also went and saw Evil Dead Rise. >> What did you think? >> Uh I really liked it. >> I liked it. There were a few scenes that were that was awesome to watch. >> The some of the camera work and like the cinematography in this was like [ __ ] crazy. Like >> It's just the one thing that's really putting in my mind is where the main girl is crawling away and that fight's happening behind her. >> Oh, yeah. That was >> And it's just Yeah, that was >> where she's like crawling through the

house and there's like people >> [laughter] >> Being thrown through walls and running away, being chased and yeah, that was that stood out. >> There's one shot where I went we'll try and do no spoilers. >> Yeah, I'm trying. >> Although I mean it's like it's an Evil Dead movie. The spoiler is that the people get possessed by Kandarian demons and then they try >> And the rules sort of change depending on >> Yeah, exactly. Yeah, it doesn't just just watch the movie. >> Don't [laughter] worry about it too much. >> Actually it's more like with this one I felt like the the plot with the family and stuff was was pretty solid and like it's got themes of like you know domestic abuse and family trauma and stuff like that

and I was like, "Oh, okay, this is like a neat way to tie it into the the demon thing and it's kind of like Yeah, I thought that was really cool. But yes, the the the lore of like how the demons work and the book of it's kind of like, "Eh, don't worry about that too >> Yeah, don't worry about like how you kill them is >> Oh, exactly. >> Yeah, exactly. Yeah, yeah. Like Yeah, sometimes they were dealt with and I was like, "Well, that wouldn't fly in one of the previous movies." Like that >> [laughter] >> that guy's coming back. >> Yeah. >> Um But there's a shot where she the main character is fighting someone, I think it's at the top of the stairs and anyway and you see that they're fighting and then they smash into the mirror. >> Mhm. >> But then it smashes and you realize,

"Oh, it was being filmed through the mirror." And then the and then the camera turns and it's like, "Woah, [ __ ] that was cool." Like like the camera was pointed at the mirror >> Yeah, no, they did some great stuff with how that was filmed. Like that was I do call [ __ ] on the how many televisions broke and the fact that they broke in a weird way and I got, "That's just using the force." >> one bit where you Yeah, where she someone hits the TV and this person's smile was on this Yeah, it was I mean, I laughed, it was great. >> I laughed. Anyway, that's a spoiler. The grandmother was funny. >> Yes. >> They got a bit of humor in there every now and again. >> Yeah. Yeah, it's certainly um

like the last one was too more like dark than the originals. The originals were dark and scary and and gory, and this is all of those things, but the the originals less so the first one. The first one had some funny stuff. Like the deadites were funny, but like mean. This is just like mostly just mean. >> [laughter] >> Yeah. Yeah, it's definitely it's not the sequel. Yeah, that one was really good, but it was also not funny. >> Yeah, no, they they're not Yeah, the funny was just Evil Dead 2 and Army of Darkness. Now they're going now it's a horror movie again. Cut away. >> There's a few things in this where it's like times have changed and I think like people are okay, well, obviously this movie is okay with putting things in where they would have been like, oh we probably shouldn't show that, kind of thing. Even when they would show other things. So. >> Yeah. But that's that's the scene. >> was really gruesome and in- intense, I would say violence. >> But yeah, I can't think of another movie

that has a scene like that where they actually shot >> yeah, it's emotionally intense in a way that sometimes they don't do that just because it's like, oh that might be too much. I feel like this this kind of movie will get to streaming pretty quick, I think. But But like you said, yeah, you could have also just CGI'd it, and no one would have known the difference. >> Yeah, it didn't add anything. It didn't look, yeah, amazing. Uh very, very juicy. >> [laughter] >> Practical effects in parts, where it's just it's got a lot of that gross out stuff that Sam Raimi used to be really known for.

>> They did do a bit of a >> There's a kissing scene that's disgusting. >> Yes. >> And uh and then um a few things like that where it's just very sloppy, and it and yeah, you can tell it's practical. And it I mean it in those circumstances, it works a lot because you could tell it's not CGI. It's just like, oh, gross. >> And the actor went all in for that. >> Yeah, so in that case, practical effects pay off because it's disgusting. [laughter] >> Yeah. But, you also watched another movie this week. >> I did. >> interested to hear what you think. >> Uh are you talking about Obsession? >> I am talking about Obsession. >> I did, I watched Obsession. Uh I really liked it. I really liked >> wasn't it? >> Yeah. Yeah, very creepy.

Um some uh some intense stuff. Mostly just very like creepy and like like disturbing. >> Um yeah. >> Yeah, I really liked it. Uh that girl is great. I can see why she's suddenly famous. I read a thing that said that she they filmed this like years ago, and then she's just went back to her life. Uh as like a working doing whatever. She's like streams video games on Twitch or whatever. And then and then this movie came out, and then now she's like [ __ ] like a massive star because this movie's done so well. >> She was great in it. >> Yeah. >> But, I'm happy you You seen it cuz there's one thing I want to discuss, and there will be spoilers for this one because it's been out long enough. >> Okay. All right.

>> The one thing I found So, the whole premise of this story is this guy's in love with this girl. >> Mhm. >> He finds this wish thing, makes a wish that he will wish he would love that he will love her more than anyone else in the world. She will love him. And you can imagine how that goes crazy where she's now obsessed with him. >> Yeah. >> The thing I found a bit weird about it was the best friend was trying to get them to hook up. At the beginning movie like ask her out, do this. But then later on the movie, you find out that the best friend and her have been hooking up all along. >> Yeah, I think he was like um well, he was sort of discouraging >> ask her out so you get rejected so >> it was like just get it out of the way so so then like >> they can >> Yeah.

Yeah, so I think he must have un felt bad about the fact that his best friend's in love with this girl and he's been banging her. >> Yeah. >> And keeping it a secret. But then yeah, so then maybe he was just like yeah, just just tell her and then she can say no, we're just friends and then hopefully it will come >> I think a better way would have been trying to push him with the other friend who was into him. >> I thought the other two the two friends were together for the beginning part of the movie. I was confused about that relationship actually. I thought they were a couple for some reason. I don't know why. >> But no, it was just two guys two girls who two were banging in secret, one was in love with the other and that and >> Yeah. Yeah, it was sort of a weird triangle.

>> I I thought they were sort of like it was a couple and then the other two, but no. It doesn't matter. Yeah. It all It all gets clarified. >> Yes, it does. But like oh no, it's just it was so good that movie and >> Yeah, really good performances. Um the writing's good. The creepiness is like you could tell it I'm assuming it didn't have a huge budget, but it did a lot with it. Like it was just really clever. >> Well, again, it shows that with horror movies you don't need huge budget. >> Like, a lot of the scariest scenes this my favorite scenes that I think of is literally just a bunch of people sitting at like that party scene. >> Yes. >> [ __ ] hell, man. That she is so good in that. >> Like, where she just like, "Oh, kiss the person to your left." And she just gets

up and just drags the chair away. >> But, she just has that look at her face and it's just like, "Oh, [ __ ] What is she going to do?" Yeah. >> Oh. >> Yeah, really good. >> I don't know. There's one thing it made me think about at the end. It's about the end of a lot of horror movies. Even Evil Dead Burn. What happens with the law after that? After they find out all these people have been murdered. Especially with her when she does some of the murders and it's sort of like, how does she defend herself in court? >> There's a lot of them like that. They again, they just kind of like, "Ah, don't worry about it." >> Yeah. Yeah. But, not >> Yeah, how do how do you going to explain this to the police? >> Yeah. [laughter]

>> Well, I guess in Obsession there's nobody Well, there's there's her. >> There's her. >> At the end. How she going to explain that? Yeah. >> How she going to And she's the one who did it. >> Yes, two of them. >> But, it's not her. >> Right. Yeah, yeah, but how do you explain that? Yeah, good point. >> But, there's there's one there's one scene I quite liked in it which I think was very creepy and again, shows didn't need budget was when she was asleep and he was trying to sneak out. >> Oh, yeah. Yeah, yeah. She was just >> kill me. Like, and she's asleep at the entity or whatever is taking over. She's asleep at the moment. So, she's asking like, "Please kill me. I don't want to live like this." >> Yeah. Yeah, and he said something like, um

"Oh, you want me to just wish that go back like you know, like I never had you?" And then she's like, "You've never You never had me. Like, that's not me." And she's like, "Yeah." That's [ __ ] creepy, man. >> [laughter] >> Like, yeah. And it when he's on the phone and oh, do you want to talk to her and you just hear her screaming in the background? >> Yeah. Yeah, the way that works is a little wishy-washy, but it doesn't really matter. Which uh it had a budget of $750,000. >> That's still insane. >> And uh let's see, box office, how much has it made now? >> Oh, must have done well at the box office. >> 430 million. Uh I watched one other movie last night since since we had the ability to do that. I hate that description. I don't know why. I don't know why. regard. He's a writer. He He lost his parents clearly. You find out the start. He's got the ashes still sitting there. And then he's working on his next book and then some stuff happens and he finds some old um stuff around the house that reminds him that his parents went on a honeymoon to Ireland to this hotel and he decides to go there and spread their ashes. And weird [ __ ] happens. >> down. In a cozy way. >> In a Yeah, some cozy weird [ __ ] happens. Yeah. Uh no, it was good. I liked it. Yeah. >> Okay. >> It was um It's weird watching something like Evil Dead Burn and then watching something like Hokum. Hokum is much less gory. >> Yeah. >> [laughter]

and vehicles. And he says, "It's very much like sitting here and saying, well, I believe the horse and buggy is really where it's at. These cars, they break down, they need gas, there's all kinds of problem with them, and pretty soon they'll be making them into tanks, and they'll be killing people. It's terrible. And there's nothing you can do about it." George Lucas says. He calls AI progress and the future. Uh and he's copped a lot of flak for it. Like I can very quickly, you know, do things that would have taken me a long time to do. And then if I can get things done that I wouldn't have been able to. >> Mhm. >> Cuz I'm busy. >> But yeah, it is it is sort of a very scary thing, and I still think it is going to destroy mankind. But it makes life easier at the >> Yeah, but in the meantime, it yeah, helps me um make little prototypes of things that I want to make, and yeah. >> Yeah.

I do things completely different these days. >> Use it to make a [ __ ] web app, and don't And if you don't understand web apps. >> [laughter] >> No. Especially if you want to monetize it. >> Yeah. Just yeah. Look at how many times that goes sideways for people. Just make sure you're checking everything it does. That's my my rule is that if I use it to to work on something, I have to check everything. >> Mhm. >> Because I don't trust it. >> Uh Cuz it will do something weird and >> Yeah, and then you go, "Why'd you do that?" And it goes, "You're right. That was stupid. I don't know." And it's like, "Well, [ __ ] hell, man." Like, it's not to be trusted. >> No. No. It's they useful as cuz I use Copilot a lot. And the way I look at it

is it's a copilot. It's there to assist me, not to do it for me. >> Right. No, you know what? I I Claude code I use and it is [ __ ] incredible at finding bugs. If you have a piece of software you're working on and you're like, "I wonder if there's any bugs." Just tell Claude code "Scan this code base. Let me know about any bugs." It will find [ __ ] you would never have found. And And oftentimes it's little things uh that you can just then go in and fix. Like, you don't even have to have it fix them. Just ask it to find bugs in your software, it will find stuff. >> Is that also because it's good at creating them, so it knows where to look to begin with? Like, I know last time I did this, I put a bug there, so I'll have a look there.

>> But the thing is like as a human, right? You If you If I was to sit down with the all the code and just try and read through it and go, "Okay, does this do what it's supposed to do?" kind of thing. It's just It's just hard to like hold that in your head and to go through all that kind of stuff. Not for this thing. This thing just steps through everything and it goes, "Is this doing what it's supposed to do? Is this doing what it's supposed to do? What what happens if I do this?" And then And then like send this into the function or whatever. >> is yeah, you had an extra space somewhere that you've missed. >> Yeah, I listened to a podcast the other day where they said that there was a a bug that they'd not been able to reproduce and then it turned out it was

just simply like they had a like a greater than instead of a greater than or equal to in in in a piece of code somewhere. And they've looked They said, "I've looked at this over the years hundreds of times trying to figure out what this bug is and my brain just didn't see it because it's just so hard to like hold all the the flow in your head. >> Yeah. >> And then Carl was just like, "Oh, you [ __ ] that up, dude." And it's like, "Oh, shit." Anyway, great for that. Uh I think for creative stuff there's a lot of questions about whether it's there's any value in that because I do agree half of being Well, most of the point of being creative is that you created it. And so, if you didn't create it uh it's What's What's the point of it, really?

>> Well, that's what. There's actually a court case going through at the moment for I forget what it was called, tongue tongue sushi or something. >> [laughter] >> I don't know what that is. >> So, it's AI rot. So, it is this stick thing that has a baseball bat that someone's created that they've been putting on TikTok and stuff for a while. They put it in the Fortnite put it in cuz it's a new brain rot stream you think keep kids happy. And they had a lawsuit going over about it because the person who created it is from Indonesia, I think, and created it using AI. And they're going, "No, we own the rights to that." >> Mhm. >> And so, now it's going to court of Do they own the rights or do they not? And >> Mhm.

>> So, I know most of the court cases have gone through so far up especially with the art has No, you don't own it. >> Yeah. >> it's getting to the point of, "Well, no, I put It wasn't I put in one line, created this, and I've done it. I went through and I created this and I did the personality and how it looks and put a lot of time and effort into it. So, now there's an argument for that was just a tool I used to create. So, it's getting scary, but it's also like who does own it cuz the tools mostly steal everything, steal learn from other artists, and yeah, from that. >> Cuz I I I We've talked about this before, but the thing I struggle with is it yes, they they they the the AI looks

at art and absorbs it and then creates like its own mashup of the things it seen, but that's what people do. >> That's what people do. >> and but but I do agree like when a person does it, I think it's more valuable >> Yes. >> to me as a creative work. I think I don't I I think there's nothing particularly wrong with using AI to do that stuff, but I just don't think it's as impressive or valuable when an AI does it. >> Kind of thing. >> Like I'll use it for the thumbnails and stuff because I think like the alternative is that I do a bad Photoshop and it just won't be as funny. >> no thumbnail. >> Yeah, cuz the idea is mine and my execution of it is not going to be as funny. I think that the AI can make my idea look like more like what I want in a way

that I can't. And I can't pay somebody to do it. I don't have money for that. >> Look, if [laughter] we could afford to pay someone, we would. Maybe one day. >> Maybe one day.
