[Music] welcome to multiple nerdgasm with your hosts Matt Luke and Dan multiple nerdgasm your guide to All Things nerdy some sad news this week yeah I mean AIDS has claimed another victim it has and uh this one one of my favorite shows when I was a kid and to this day you know it's just a it's like a very fun memory is is watching the Storyteller absolutely Jim hson Storyteller starring the late John Hurt who sadly died this week yeah and oh and I mean obviously Ali for the last time yeah no one can hurt him anymore I mean Tinker Taylor Soldier

[Laughter] dead he's told his last story cuz he died yeah I'd be surprised if there's not some newspaper I'm sure is run a silly headline like that and the rest of were like no yeah don't you [ __ ] dare we're the only ones who dare to go there that's right but yeah I lik John HT I liked him a lot liked Storyteller liked via Vendetta Hellboy I liked most of what he did actually yeah no no no he's he's just a solid actor who's always good yeah he was Doctor Who he was even he was in an Australian film if you've seen the proposition I haven't well you should all right apparently um he developed pancreatic cancer uh only a little while ago AIDS yeah pancreatic AIDS that's a shame yeah that sucks it really does suck it does suck yeah it

does 1984 man yeah he was in the film 1984 this article here lists quite a lot of stuff that he was in and even I was scoffing like oh you left off Storyteller or you left off whatever and You' you've added in here Indiana Jones and the kingdom of the Crystal Skull like why is that no don't don't do that to the man for that let's forget that shall we yeah like Harry Potter he was in like yeah that's fine put that on there Vendetta yep Lord of the Rings he did the voice of Aragon in the animated series Pop that on there don't put Indiana Jones on there there was a Lord of the Rings animated series so well sorry it was it's from like the 70s and I don't think they ever made more than one I'm going off a weird memory of this floating around the internet like they

made an animated series I think of Fellowship of the Ring I'm probably Incorrect and someone will correct me please do Oh you mean like well back in the day yes my my father had a poster of that on his wall when I was a kid okay there and there was a video game uh which I believe was an adaptation of that again probably wrong podcast at multipl nerdgasm tocom please correct me uh yeah but that was yeah 70s I think but he was the voice of of Aragon yeah right which is funny actually cuz that's not a character I would normally associate him with no that's true kind of Acy hero kind of character so I think probably if not my favorite role of his certainly my most Revisited role uh that John HT ever

played is the role of Kane yeah in alien and Space Balls I was about to say not forgetting he played the same character in Space Balls yeah so he clearly had a a diner absolutely H and that makes him sadly our geek of the week I'm not prepared to play the jingle not I'm not prepared to as I'm not refusing to I'm saying I'm not prepared at this point I am not prepared to play the jingle I am now prepared to play the [Music] jingle seems like that was quite loud and I apologize if that's true no it was okay for me okay good we all know if it came through my headphones into my mic yeah it's true you get it a weird kind of stereo

so um Matt I owe you an apology uh oh because uh I scoffed a little at you last week on the podcast when you were raving about how good Zoolander 2 was and I I got a little snobbish I think I think we can all say and I can now say unequivocally Zoolander 2 is [ __ ] great I knew you'd like it I I don't I don't understand why it got such bad reviews I don't it's funny I was unprepared for how many midgets are in this film like there's there's there's a [ __ ] in each of the orgies that is I wonder if the problem is that it because it is fairly non I don't want to say non PC it's like the landscape for that kind of humor has changed a lot and I wonder if if it's that if it just went to places that

people are like not not okay with for some reason right now yeah but what I really liked that this movie did was that obviously when it came out it was a parody but people found it so funny that that started to kind of transcend into the into the mainstream and now this one makes fun of you for thinking Zoolander was cool right yeah totally well like for example there's that I love that conversation that they have about his son and how his son you cuz he's he's ashamed of his son because he's fat and I'm like like stuff like that I guess you know like I thought that was very funny but you're not really throw to do that anymore I wonder if that's got something to do with with why it wasn't as successful I don't know laugh a lot though I don't know if being fat makes

him a bad person yeah I don't know I don't know no really I don't know no I'm asking you no I don't know well I mean it doesn't make him a good person yeah that's true God it's funny and uh ke suland all I could think about though Kea Sutherland is a fantastic actor he is and and this film really does show hiits bread he is like there that scene at the start when Hansel leaves and he's it's just him looking sad and it's like heart-wrenching know yeah yeah yeah he's a great actor how can you love 11 people if you can't even love yourself even Justin Bieber is funny in it oh mate that opening scene I knew I was going to love this movie yeah so listeners if you were like me and you

thought you were too good for this movie you're not no in many ways it's too good for you so give it a watch Love in remote New Jersey he's in the snow remote Northern New Jersey and it's a tundra it's very funny it's great movie people check it out like it's not it's [ __ ] stupid but I love it it is it is next level stupid in many many ways but uh but also great well do we want to talk about uh some movie news while we're talking about mov quite a bit of it today there is yeah uh there's one big piece you want to get that one out of the way First Look I I'm kind of gutted by this I mean maybe maybe something good will come out of it but I was really exciting was really exciting I was really exciting I was so exciting I was very excited that Ben Affleck was

going to not just star in but direct the Batman Standalone film mhm and now he's not doing it no too hard he's still going to St but uh they're putting a lot of pressure on him I assume to put [ __ ] into the movie that's going to sell him some toys that he doesn't want to include in the plot I wondered that too cuz his reasoning is that it's that it's a very iconic character and has a lot of pressure and he's not able to handle both sides of it and at first I was like come on it's Batman but then I thought about it I'm like yeah that's that that's the problem is not necessarily it's not that Batman is too complicated a character for him to get his head around it's that he's got people [ __ ] yelling at him yeah it's that too many people have a say and he's probably been

asked what's going on with Batman about 10 times every day since they announced it that's right yeah and he's probably like [ __ ] off so look I mean I'll stand by him starring as Batman I I think he did a great job yeah know I like that like I'm sure I will watch the [ __ ] out of a Batman Solo movie even if he doesn't do it yeah I didn't like Batman vers Superman but it's not because of him absolutely not arguably he was the best thing about it sure no Jeremy Irons was the best thing about it but he'll probably be in this as well so that's good yeah I'd say so but um some slightly exciting I'm not going to say news let's say an exciting rumor has surfaced that George Miller might Direct so

interesting like he he's an odd Choice other than I guess that he's bankable right now yeah but I mean if they do Batman anything like Mad Max I'm [ __ ] you yeah but see cuz George Miller is he's very diverse I guess is what I want to say he did [ __ ] Happy Feet and and babe and babe like he's you know he's not just a a dumb action movie guy is what I'm trying to say yeah that's right which people might pain because Mad Max uh Fury Road in particular uh one of the the main criticisms uh if you are going to criticize it is that it's a it's a bit dumb um like it's it's just stuff blowing up which you know I don't see what the problem is but I mean it is but yeah I also I don't yeah well there is more going on to it in it than that yeah

uh it's just not a talking movie but he does do other stuff and uh apparently I this is the guy who did two Mad Max movies back in the 80s and then made a film about go whitlam and the dismissal okay haven't seen that but yeah all right he's a good director yeah he is he knows how to direct yeah uh and he was going to do a Justice League movie apparently at one point he was on the short list to do one and it fell apart right so yeah so that's why people are saying oh maybe he um because it does seem like he he it seems like he would say no based on what he said about not doing another Mad Max cuz he wants to do something small and more personal you know and but in this case if he was setting up to do that a while ago and then it got it fell apart maybe this all

be more attractive to him M I'm happy if Batman is his small personal film sure that would be great and then I guess hopefully um we'll see uh I can't remember his name Tom Hardy we'll see Tom Hardy in there somewhere well he's already been in a Batman like Tom Hardy No I know but he he can Tom hard's [ __ ] great I like Tom Hardy a lot he's a good actor yeah he is did you see that one where he plays twins no I don't think so all right let me I can't remember the name but he plays uh real life gangster twins from uh Cockney London right what was that one we watched it was actually was Nick a Nick Cave movie wasn't it the one we watched yeah yeah uh Lawless yeah that was a good movie yeah it was great I mean Tom Hardy definitely

took illegible speaking of lines to another level in that movie yeah he's he's working on it that's his yeah that's his thing now well just to link everything back in uh that movie is directed by John hilot who also directed The Proposition that I mentioned earlier which you should also see W okay well that's exciting potentially yeah it's a shame Affleck's not doing it cuz he's I think he would have done he would have tried to do a really good job and therefore would have done a better job than what I experienced with that of a Superman like I don't think he would have there's not a lot people that could do a worse job than there's no way Affleck was going to do just a a dumb punching stuff blowing up movie like yeah if anything he might have taken it

too far in the other direction and it could have just been a lot of Bruce Wayne thinking yeah B like he in his suit just [ __ ] brooding over [ __ ] and being like should I put that bat suit on no I'm not going to do it going to do it punch me in the dick punch me in the dick I deserve it well but speaking of Batman there is a real Batman yeah and there is did you watch the the short film no I didn't actually I didn't get a chance to but I I did hear about this guy in the news when it was happening he there the film's interesting cuz Okay it's it's a guy who you may have heard of uh he's known as Ontario Batman and he is a guy from Ontario Canada who has a Batmobile it's a like a

Tim Burton era Batmobile and he dresses up as Batman I'm looking at the Batmobile right nowu he drives around and patrols as Batman and I don't know exactly what he's done but he does say in this video that he he does catch criminals and he has caught criminals yeah and I mean I think if there's a if there's a vigilante in your town the fact that it's Batman is just that extra level of awesome it is but then I watch it and I'm like it reminds me of you know that um I forget was it called superheroes the the documentary about the real life superheroes that was just like it's funny a little sad yeah but it's not really funny because they're a bit mentally ill you know yeah like do you remember there was one hero who was targeting homophobes yeah they

were B by dressing up real [ __ ] and trying to get raped yeah or beaten up raped or bashed and then he would have his mates who are all also dressed as superheroes waiting to bash those people yeah like [ __ ] is wrong with you it's such a weird thing to do I mean at best that's entrapment and at worst it's just a horrible cry to help and they they R around on their skateboards trying to get tce people to bash or rape them Bless but uh yeah this guy I know it's very interesting because he's like he's got his house set up with like bat stuff everywhere he's got like bat computers and and uh equipment he's got swords and and Sai and he studies ninjitsu he talks about ninjitsu MH uh and how he's got a Batman clock he does he's got Batman everything he's Batman dinner plates

but he talks a lot about how he knows what the difference between fantasy and reality but he also says it's not just Batman it's like Bruce Wayne it's like everything like he just embodies the character and I'm like I don't know it's just a bit sad sort of it's not you know entirely normal no it's definitely not like I said he says that he's aware that that it's like not real but then he is still doing it you know yeah I mean and don't get me wrong I'd like to embody uh some of Batman's traits I'd like to embody some of Bruce Wayne's cash sure but um you know I think uh I'd be very interested to play a you know Batman roleplay game but as soon as I had to leave my house in the tights I'd probably I'd probably draw the line yeah well I mean this guy's suit is [ __ ]

badass yeah yeah we'll link to the video watch it I mean it's very very interesting and he's he I know he seems legit but yeah it's still I don't know I'm like it's it's just a bit odd you know yeah I mean it's like those Doomsday Preppers and all of those people that kind of Larger than Life characters there's just something a little not right about it yeah well Doomsday Preppers was always I found alternatingly hilarious and just gut-wrenchingly sad because yeah you've got oh it's funny that this guy sold his life savings and bought a semi-trailer that he converted into a mobile [ __ ] bunker that he he and his wife travel around in for when the apocalypse comes and then you're like H that's funny Until you realize oh he's selling his wife's

[ __ ] medication that she needs to live in order to buy supplies because they're not going to need it they not going to be around that long cuz the apocalypse is coming it's like oh yeah that's wow awful yeah okay anyway we need to change tone here oh speaking of which yeah want to talk about a loving couple who have recently been killed along with their cat what's happened oh yeah right the case of the murderous 3D printer that's right California couple and their Cat found dead in their apartment with uh evidence of carbon monoxide poisoning

Struggle No well I don't know but in the in the photo that they've decided to use I mean this cat does look incredibly guilty it does it's murder suicide you think yeah no I I 3D printer on itself I thought this was like this is a sad story but also for those of you out there who who are a bit like me and think 3D printers are really cool and you're thinking you know it'd be nice to have one in the house I mean this is [ __ ] good to know yeah um don't use one in the house it might kill you yeah the evidence suggests uh they had been using it a lot I guess to produce a bunch of [ __ ] and then um probably sex toys could be uh and It produced uh enough carbon monoxide uh to kill them yeah I guess

they went to bed with a running yeah I guess so going in the background just making dildos yeah just pumping them out don't get me wrong if I own a 3D printer the first thing I do is probably scan my erect penis and start manufacturing dildo scale one to one you know yeah you know what I'm saying yeah sure my friends yeah just make sure everyone knows what they're dealing with but don't leave it on at night or open a window there's not many other ways it's not proven that this is what happened but there's not many other ways that you can get carbon monox side poisoning just inside a regular reg California house

yeah so it is still being investigated I think um the latest latest the latest update uh says a toxicology report is complete and indicates carbon monoxide poisoning was the cause of death and they don't know for sure what produced the gas however it does seem like the printer at this point is the most likely subject because what else could it have been like there wasn't anything else in the house so that they could have done it so yeah be careful be careful out there with your 3D printer yeah my friend bought himself a 3D printer or actually bought the parts to create his own 3D printer um because he wants to build a Moby Dick themed pinball machine because he was researching old pinball machines that

you could get secondhand wanted to get his hands on a Moby Dick one cuz he loves that book and was gutted to find it doesn't exist so he's learning to 3D print so that he can make his own M dick pinball machine that is very specific it is isn't it that's that's amazing yeah yeah I bought a 3D printer so I can make a movie di bball machine yeah yeah cool I've seen it too it's half built really yeah yeah he's built the uh the body for it and basically the 3D printer is so that he can mold all of the the parts you know whale Tales Etc we went to that um uh I think you came with us when you were here the arcade bar in Providence yeah uh we went there the other night uh and we're

playing the the pinball machines they've got one there it's like I think it's called like Pub fight or something it's like you know like those old old timey illegal boxing matches in a pub yeah like in you know in the guy Richie Sherlock Holmes movies yeah and yeah exactly and it's got uh this really cool feature where there's like a central section that kind of looks fairly you know normal like a pinball machine until you trigger the the fight to begin and then it spins around and there's like a big rubber guy there who like punches and he like yeah it's it's [ __ ] cool that's great it's one of the most what you're telling me is that you can go to a pub and play a virtual Pub fight yeah on a pinball machine that's

great yeah that's cool cool bar in uh in Providence what is the name of that bar it's called the something arcade and the other part of the Name Escapes me everyone just calls it the arcade I think okay shout out to everyone who works at the arcade it's in enville right near enville Hot Wieners which is a famous that sounds like a madeup shop in a madeup place but it's not I've been there too yeah delicious those Hot Wieners were really good yeah they were on um man versus food once it's quite yeah did I make some kind of awful faux PA while I was there I have a hazy memory of being really embarrassed on the footpath outside that place you did I mean it was fine cuz it was hilarious but uh we were with a gay couple and John walked up the window and said I'll have two Hot

Wieners all the way and then you did wet yourself laughing right okay right be that sounds like something that I would find funny so yeah and then somebody spat coffee milk everywhere and I've forgotten who that was I don't know think that was me maybe no usually avoid milk so it's probably not me probably not I wouldn't worry about it too much it was fine yeah as far as I know I just remember thinking I can never come back to hot wiener again the omniv hot wiener I mean we they they they were annoyed at us cuz we were all very drunk like yes the guy at the window was getting annoyed with us but I think it's fine like they won't remember us let I I wouldn't worry about it do we want to talk about more American deaths by

shooting sure sure why not and uh specifically more more cat deaths I guess yeah this one I mean it it's it's not funny but the guy's attitude is a little funny yeah a guy uh in in Florida of course Florida man yeah has shot a cat sadly yeah because according to him a 60 69y old man said he shot the cat because it looked at him like he owned the place before relieving itself on his property and then he then went on to say it was just a poor judgment call yeah wasn't my intention to hurt that cat all I wanted to do was get it out in front of my walkway to stop pooping and now he went on to suggest that

perhaps he's the victim here because now if he's charged with a felony he might lose his income and become homeless and it might be a death sentence for accidentally accidentally shooting some cat yeah which he does now just to make this extra sad I mean if you're already sad that a cat has been shot for looking like he owns the place um the cat didn't even die from being shot he wounded and paralyzed and then had to be put down yeah he shut it with a BB gun Christ I mean looking at the photo here I mean this does look like a man who would shoot a cat yeah totally this looks like the kind of guy you'd see on an episode of a current affair for our Australian listeners or maybe 60 Minutes for our American listeners I mean what what's going on down in Florida honestly I mean

I'm sure this before something in the everyone talks about this but yeah yeah because I've been to Florida and uh you know it seemed all right until I went to the the flea market where you could buy people just selling their old shotguns and um you could buy tasers uh Pink tasers and and stuff and and oh so many [ __ ] had a flea market yeah just like you know like uh remember what's the equivalent you know you just back your car up and sell [ __ ] out of the boot of the car right like the park the parking lot outside of penth panthers Leagues Club on a Sunday yeah exactly like that and except uh I mean I'm sure it it's cuz I guess people just have those things here it's different but it was just strange to me that a lot of

Taxidermy animals a lot of [ __ ] guns and tasers and knives and things I mean it's like I said it's probably not that unusual here it's just that in Australia you can't do that so yeah I'm not used to it for so many reasons when I was in Denmark uh I went into a gentleman's hunting store that seemed to sell exclusively uh Tweed jackets black caps and shotguns that's amazing and mon yeah that kind of [ __ ] man riding boots you know that sounds cool yeah it was cool it was very cool that shot almost single-handedly made me want to move there I told you driving back from uh I think I think we

were in Connecticut and we saw a shop that sold pizza and guns so most Connecticut thing I've ever heard that's great the listeners and you Dan were probably a bit worried about this uh but I have good news mhm the Avatar 5 script has been finished now oh good good because he's been James Cameron he can't start filming all four of the sequels until he finishes the script for all of them uh and he was he was due to start shooting them in August um he has finished the script for Avatar 5 now it's unclear if that's going to delay the it's good to know where you're going yeah exactly so is he now going to shoot four movies in sequence that seems to be what he's saying he's going to shoot all

of them and roll them out cuz I assume unlike most films this is kind of inverted and the production period might be quite short because it's all just shot you don't even need costumes and sets yeah that's what he said like he he said that uh he he's he calls it the capture volume I guess that's a technical term like he says I'll be working with the actors in the capture volume in August so I'm booked in production every day between now and then so they don't actually go and shoot this somewhere apart from a studio so like it's complet it's it's very um Star Wars prequal in its production you know like it's done in a studio it's not yeah there or like uh Sin City I guess is probably yeah or like the first

avatar I'm assuming too yeah actually yeah good point uh probably true yeah they they they don't even in in a lot of cases because of the what are they called na'vi yeah they don't even film they record the capture information yeah it's just collecting data they're don't even filming the actors they're just recording the movements of the actors so it's it's a whole different thing so I guess they're going to do all four of them at once and then he's G to make the film out of what he what he gets like he'll just make the fil do the first one and then yeah yeah like get all the capture information for all of them and then he'll he'll just make them over the next 10 years or whatever so yeah interesting because

every story he'll ever need to tell can be told in the world of Avatar yeah I really hope that he isn't as crazy as he sounds or that like the that he the media makes him sound you know like is he really that [ __ ] crazy that he think I did read a really says he outrageous things I mean the man owns a submarine you know yeah but he does but he's also he's very smart like he uses a submarine to go to the bottom of the ocean he no one else has been to that's right he can't be an idiot but then he goes and says weird things like it's not not even it's a weird thing it's just that it's kind of I guess he's maybe like a he's a dreamer and so he says these like kind of outlandish things for a guy who's made films in the alien Universe the

Terminator Universe um movies you know about the Titanic the the man has a breath of imagination that he's now narrowing to to one to one story line and it just feels really odd that he would do that I know and like yeah just he's he the things he said says make him sound very disconnected I guess that's probably what I'm trying to say and like I'm not saying that he he necessarily is he just maybe doesn't communicate very well CU he makes maybe he just doesn't feel he has to explain it to People Like Us yeah probably not yeah you're you're right actually it's probably a case of he he is disconnected cuz he lives in a [ __ ] submarine I did read a really great article yeah exactly he's like [ __ ] I can't hear you from down there so [ __ ]

off I did read really interesting article where a journalist asked him what he felt about uh MythBusters proving that Jack and Rose could have fit on that floating door at the end of Titanic yeah and he's like right yeah okay well you're saying to me that in subzero temperatures suffering from hypothermia Jack would have taken off his life preserver climbed up taken off hers swam underneath in the icy water and somehow fashioned them to the bottom of door and made a raft and sail them both to safety [ __ ] off yeah fair enough yeah fair enough also it's a movie yeah that's that's true well look hopefully these uh they expand on Avatar in a good way Avatar was I mean sure everybody knows this fairly derivative and not I mean I didn't dislike it I

know a lot of people did dislike it a lot of people didn't dislike it cuz it made a [ __ ] shitload of money um but yeah we still went saw it I dislike it either M I'd say but but I didn't like it either no no and I I have not watched it again and I don't really have any desire to watch it not in 3D in IMAX yeah that's right because that was really the only good thing about it yeah that's that's the the experience of that was what drew me to it and why I watched it twice because I was like wow that was really like it was cool uh so I don't know these ones are going to have to have to be a bit better story-wise I think yeah Story character I do like this quote from him um I feel like I've been let out of jail

because I've been in the writing cave for the last two years I'm actually enjoying life I don't enjoy writing I wouldn't wish writing on a dog and I [ __ ] hate dogs such a good quote I wouldn't wish riding on a dog some people enjoy writing just saying like I mean it's fine yeah he's just saying that he doesn't it's just such a funny thing to say I like that but a dog it's not like I wish [ __ ] love dogs man and if if writing was fun I'd wish it on every dog you know yeah I know he's not trying to make some Grand statement it's just something you said off hand because he he just he's just saying he doesn't like writing

it's just very uh other movies coming up that we could talk about not that we know a whole lot about them you were you're talking about JJ's potential new project yeah I mean if you like JJ Abrams and monsters and the Nazis yeah then uh then you'll probably dig his new movie yeah which is about those things apparently it's going to be a uh it's called Overlord and it's a movie about a supernatural fascist Menace a Nazi monster yeah plot summary is paratroopers are caught Behind Enemy Lines after their plane crashes on a mission to destroy a German radio tower outside Normandy during the D-Day invasion they reach their target and

come to realize that besides fighting off Nazis they'll also have to combat Supernatural forces that are the results of a secret Nazi experiment now to me that sounds a lot like the plot of Wolfenstein 3D yeah yep I was going to say that uh it also sounds [ __ ] awesome yeah I will watch the [ __ ] out of that I will definitely watch it uh is is JJ directing this is no I believe that JJ is writing and producing and that Julius Avery right will be directing okay what does he I don't know who that is okay son of a gun it says here I don't know what that is I don't know what that is either let's find out while while that happens I would like to point out this article actually also caught my attention because if you look at the top of the

article it's got a picture of Cronin from Hellboy the Hellboy movie Underneath which there is the caption the supernatural Nazi SS scientist in Hellboy who works on weird experiments who works on weird experiments right well and again this is I'm being elitist and and a bit bit tongue and cheek here but it's Cronin he's an assassin a not a scientist mhm doesn't work on weird experiments he's an assassin uh yeah just made me laugh like do your research mate yeah hello come on if you if you're going to put a photo of somebody from an unrelated movie as the banner picture of your article about another movie don't just make up who he [Laughter]

is yeah you know what I've I've not really noticed before but now that I'm looking at this picture it's the skull and crossbones on the front of the SS hat they could have picked a less cartoony looking skull oh yeah I know I mean this skull kind of looks like Bones from the super Ted series you know well they hadn't been invented yet so super how they have known that yeah yeah that's true oh it reminds me just of that uh Mitchell and web sketch they don't make our uniforms hats they've got skulls on them bad guys so good [ __ ] amazing yeah really good stuff son of a gun is Julius Avery's only film oh he's from Melbourne

and it's an Aussie film interesting Jr busts out of prison with Brendan Australia's most notorious criminal and joins a gang for a gold Heist that soon pits the two men against one another I mean that sounds all right yeah and JJ obviously sees something in him that must have been JJ must have liked it oh star you and McGregor huh I wouldn't complain if JJ said he liked a film I made yeah I'll watch this yeah I'll watch this too I mean not all of the Nazi Supernatural crossover films are good I think Iron Sky wasn't as good as it to be I liked it though yeah I liked it too but I think JJ can probably take this to places it didn't go when is the [ __ ] sequel to that coming out that's true the one where the the trailer came out where the

is set to star in a Scarface remake that I don't know why we need but I'm going to be totally honest with you here Matt and with the listeners and I'm going to admit I've never seen Scarface I've never seen all of it I've only seen bits of it I mean I'm aware of Scarface I'm aware of fly Pelican and say hello to my little friend yeah yeah yeah and I'm aware of uh that that the the film doesn't interest me that much I'll be honest yeah never interested me either and I'm aware of uh alcino doing a what do he do on a Puerto Rican accent sure something uh whatever that is I never I never wanted you know scarf faces a remake in and of itself oh I James Kagney movie Yeah Yeah from the 40s or something right right well I mean Diego Luna's he he was

fine in Star Wars so yeah you know I'm sure he'll doob I know so yeah true it's just I don't know the the film's not that old is it it's from like the 80s isn't it yeah I would say so but I mean M that's that's what all the films are that are being remade now I know I know it just I don't I don't understand like there are some if you look at okay the thing John carpers the thing was a remake of the was it it wasn't called the thing it was called the thing and then some extra words the the 50s one was it 50s yeah the the black and white one right that's right he didn't just remake it he he he adapted it which they do do sometimes as well now but like you know he he made it

significantly different cuz it was in color and it was like like a whole new thing this is just going to be like the same movie probably you yeah cuz that's how they do remakes in fact I'm surprised they've cast a man sure yeah I'll say this though I've just looked it up Scarface the original is from 1932 directed by Howard Hawks um and uh a little more little more judgy signing by the SS of the title it's not just called Scarface it's called Scarface the shame of a Nation wow there you go little bit judgmental yeah maybe someone was proud of him here we go it plans to move the action from Miami to Los Angeles and the film will reimagine the iconic drug lord as a Mexican immigrant

wow topical oh I mean look it might be a good movie I'm just I don't know his remakes just yeah yeah whatever yeah you know I was on a plane recently and they had the Ghostbusters reboot oh yeah and I almost I almost watched it just so I could comment on it and then I just couldn't bring myself to do it yeah I don't know anybody except for like disconnected voices on the internet who who likes that movie like I don't even know anybody who has or wants to watch it you know what I mean I don't know I've never spoken to a human being face to face who's seen Ghostbusters the Remake as far as I'm aware listeners one of you must have seen it no I know I know some of our listeners have no I know some of

our listeners have and I know some of them enjoyed it and then and that's fine like I know actually I do know that people enjoyed it because I've seen on the internet people enjoyed it and I'm sure it's fine like do look fine it's just because it's Ghostbusters it's like yeah Matt did you happen to see the photo that's been put out from season 2 of stranger things I did I did you know what I'm talking about I do of uh of the kids clearly at a dress up day or something at school Ghostbusters yeah yes honestly I had an 80s Nostalgia orgasm I'm hoping that whatever but I don't know I don't know why they're dress Ghostbusters but I'm sure it's going to be great y I'm hoping it's going to be

great and I'm excited to know that they're filming it already yeah cuz I know we're going to have to wait for it but uh yeah it's good to know that that it's happening like it seems like they they're getting it done you know like they're already shooting it so clearly yeah it's it's written and it's happening I mean if they like money and they want to just print a whole bunch of it they will make this as quick as they can cuz you know you know I'm sure you probably know the answer to this right with a when you have a t TV show right yeah I know sometimes like in the case of say lost they literally just make it up as they go along yes right episode to episode literally just like they're shooting was like that too right so so yeah as they're shooting episodes

they're still writing for the same season right do they ever like in this case is it is it feasible that they wrote the whole thing and then went got it correct and then shot it or are they probably doing the same thing it is know I I think generally speaking they're moving away from episodic writing like that yeah okay cool and especially with Netflix because Netflix and Hulu and Amazon Prime and all of that they don't have to adhere to any set seasons right of course and because they put it all at the same time anyway so they can't do that and there's no due dates you don't have to go advertising um like guidelines are different and you know so there there's much less pressure on you to just have a writer room that turns out one week to we cuz I remember uh I listened to an

interview with Damon Lindelof and he was talking about lost cuz I enjoyed lost enjoy the loved it mate but then at the end I was same as everybody else I was like huh W like really disappointed because I'm like surely they knew where they were going with this no they [ __ ] didn't they had no idea not they literally sat and watched what everyone was talking about on on social media and on the internet like when episodes aired and decid Ed what to do based on that next like the next episode like that's yeah that's insane I mean it worked because it was it was huge but then I don't know I feel like it wasit ended up pretty messy at the end yeah it absolutely did I also listened to an episode I think it was of what was that podcast with Jeff

Goldsmith the original one um oh the uh screen rers screenwriters podcast yeah he's got a new one now but uh that was the old yeah he he interviewed uh one of the not Lindelof one of the other writers and they said that um because they they didn't think lost would get picked up they threw all of their ideas into the the pilot and then when they made the pilot they were like [ __ ] we don't have to make any more of this cuz it's got all this they threw all this crazy [ __ ] in there and then it was huge and they're like and then even it went beyond that because in the first season when it went to series they were like okay this is great but we will never get a second season so let's just put in a whole bunch of weird non seur that's why

there's a [ __ ] polar bear that's why there's all this weird [ __ ] that's why there's a [ __ ] Mist that's evil like yeah cuz they were like no one they're never going to pay us to make more of this yeah they thought they were just being mysterious and but I mean it was compelling yeah because it because it was but the thing was compelling about is that you thought it was going somewhere but then it wasn't yeah that's right I mean it never was going anywhere they just made it up as they went along did you see that video that somebody put together with all of the story threads in lost that were abandoned yeah that's right because coming back from the dead yeah and then there's like uh what's his name was it Ben he was one of the others there's a whole scene where he like has

this folder of information that you don't see what it is and he hides it in a event [ __ ] never comes up ever again never see it again because they throw all this stuff out and then see what people are talking about and interested in and then just forget about the rest of it yeah and it's so disappointing because you're just you watch that show going these guys are geniuses and this must be building into something big but it makes me skeptical of stuff new stuff now as well like when I was watching Westworld right I was like if they [ __ ] pull a lost with this I'm going to be so annoyed and like and so I was so cynical about it like you know little mystery thing at show up and I'm like no bet that goes

nowhere yeah yeah no it uh westw got uh got wrapped up pretty well so yes it did and there's been Clues from the first episode that paid off in the last episode yeah exactly it was it was what I wanted lost to be kind of yes exactly right and the fact that they said there's not going to be a second season for another year and a half because we want to just take our time and get it right yeah well thank you gentlemen your out I read an article the other day that I thought was very interesting you know they re-released a lot of the old Star Trek uh shows on Blu-ray yeah absolutely like uh the original series came out on Blu-ray and Next Generation came out on Blu-ray and people have been wondering when are we going to get Deep Space 9

and Voyager on Blu-ray and then they just re-released them on DVD again and everyone's like what's going on and the answer is it because SD is the highest quality you can ever see him in well it's interesting right they were shot like all the others they were shot on 35 mil yeah right except unlike the others they were edited completely digitally so right if they were going to do them they would have to redo everything like they in other words they were died they were scanned yep into uh TSC uh SD yes then edited and they all effects and everything made off of that yeah mixed everything was done the

rushers put aside in a freezer somewhere yeah if they go back now no film negative was ever cut it was just captured and then put put away so if they were going to do HD versions of it they would have to start from scratch the only thing they would just basically they would have to they wouldn't have to shoot it again but they would have to do everything else from scratch man and I guess how could they have known because at that point video had been the same resolution for decades yeah years yeah well that's just we scanned it to video you know that's yeah just it's done so y yeah so you'll never you'll never see it because there just

there's no way that that's that's going to happen like it's just not no not enough people are going to buy them to justify that's right if it was worth it if if somebody if they were going to make a you know a whole packet of money off of this then somebody could painstakingly resan yeah all of the original NE redo the audio redo the special effect well no you just need to match it shot for shot right right no but like that visual effects and stuff aren't on yeah nothing is that's why it's like and the visual would be for SD as well yeah well they did redo a lot of the visual effects for the others though so it's not that's not unprecedented I guess it's just the fact that yeah like like you would have to watch them side

by side and and then do everything the same yeah and look I can kind of see why they remastered NextGen and did the special effects again for a nice Blu-ray and I can definitely understand why Original Series has been done on Blu-ray as well yeah but but let's be honest not enough people people are big enough fans of dpace 9 and Voyer to to Warrant doing this that's right yeah they're not I mean I mean you can watch them both on Netflix yeah and that's not to belittle deep space n Voyager they're great shows but they were not as big as the others and I'm absolutely certain that they don't sell as much like that's why they didn't get movies they didn't get feature films like nextg did yeah and they didn't get uh yeah they're not going to get they're not going to get

Blu-ray sadly never I guess well or eventually they might but it won't be in HD well yeah that's the thing it it look [ __ ] yeah you would basically have to upres these by double it would be the DVDs just put on a Blu-ray with no benefit that's right yeah like when they put the laser disc version of Star Wars on those DVDs don't even I mean I bought those and good I got them I've got them just I put them on and they're like uh it's three with bars on it I was like oh [ __ ] it's disgusting it's it's an absolute disgusting print yeah speaking of Star Wars mhm did you I know you saw it cuz I sent it to you guys somebody took a cheeky little photo oh yeah in a in a restaurant this week of old Lando having lunch with young

Lando two generations yeah Billy D Williams and Donald Glover having lunch together someone took a cheeky little snap and they apparently they had a meeting uh cuz I guess they uh because Harrison Ford's apparently doing the same thing for the guys playing Han okay they're meeting up to kind of Lucky Luke's not here this week oh by the way listeners Luke's not here this week oh yeah you may have noticed his uh PC finally died we all knew what was coming mhm yeah we mentioned it many times I'm sure you're familiar with his shitty computer it's dead yeah so he is getting a new one this week though mhm yeah so they're kind of mentoring them on I guess how to be the characters which is kind of an odd thing to do I guess especially like in this case I mean it's

been how long's it been since Billy D Williams portrayed Lando yeah but not only that whatever Billy D thinks of Lando outside what's in the movies is kind of irrelevant yeah that's true you know Donald Glover can just watch the two movies he's in over and over and over and know literally everything that Billy D Williams knows about it sure everything he needs to know yes exactly I get you know sometimes they say oh you know the director or whoever will give you a little bit of secret information to help you to act and I'm not an actor so well I mean I mean I am I am literally I suppose if you look on I am DB but I'm not a very good actor that's what I'm saying what I'm I am going to look you up on there I know you are but I just want to see mattam or Matthew ham

up here I'm mattam matam there you go yeah I did have like a bunch [Music] young man they had nice lunch and they talked about stuff they asked him whether he thinks Lando should be back in the films like should should they have put Lando in there again and um and he said and I thought I don't know this it's just a cute little quote he said I don't know to me I guess what it is that I identify so much with Lando I mean Lando's been very much a part of my life over 30 years when I go out and do conventions and stuff like that even though people know me from all the other things I've done certainly Lando takes precedence I just never thought of anyone else being Lando I just see myself as

Lando like I mean obviously that's I mean literally so do I but y not for long no but I think uh Donald Glover was certainly our choice for Lando oh absolutely knew that he was even cast or considered for it because not only I mean he he his look is similar like he he could pass as a young well no no no but not even that like he could pass as a young you know Billy D yeah sure H and he's a good actor yeah he is so you know tick they're the two things that I require he's got to look like Lando and he's got to be able to act he's got to act like Lando yeah that's right so apparently Donald Glover's mother has uh

cautioned him uh not to mess up for her [ __ ] that be so much pressure I mean the guy who's playing Han more so I guess yeah like he's got a lot of pressure and and I guess the director as well of all these all this stuff I can see why people say no to these things you know yeah that's true yeah and I always think the people that really go for them are the ones that I'm like oh you think you can do a good job of that can you yeah and sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't but imagine if it doesn't imagine if it comes out and it's [ __ ] that's like I I would love to direct a Star Wars movie but at the same time I don't know if I ever would yeah and like imagine even if the whole production of it was was was like like amazing like

you got to [ __ ] George Lucas came on set and he was like wow this looks really great and then wow you're doing a better job than I could ever have done yeah and like like Harrison Ford and and MK HL everybody shows up and they're like oh wow good day Dan how you going cuz they're Australian now and it greatr yep and then the movie came out and then the fans were like what a piece of [ __ ] yeah and then I'd have to kill myself i' i' literally have to kill myself yeah imagine that I think the closest I do i' do a James Bond movie right oh yeah because not all of those are good and there's less expectation there's a some reason not all the Star Wars films are good now I know but people go [ __ ] AP [ __ ] when they're not good when there's not a Bond movie they're like okay we'll

just wait a year there'll be another one no when a James Bond movie is bad people just kind of laugh and make jokes about it they don't like threaten to murder at best they just ignore it as far as I'm aware I've I've not heard I mean nobody likes uh can't even remember the name of it spect Quantum of Solace oh no Spectre well no no no I mean Quantum of Solace was was pretty poor but no one liked Spectre but just no one ever said anything about it right yeah the the most I saw was um some some articles making fun of the plot holes yeah that's right and some of the silliness in it because have you seen Spectre yeah yeah wasn't great like for example little bit at the start where he's at the Day of Dead and he's got with that woman and they go up to the hotel room and he just

climbs out the window and yeah and go and it's like well you could have done that anyway right it was just it was very convoluted like silly little things like that did you know that um wherever they shot that right New Mexico or wherever it was right don't actually do a Day of the Dead parade but since they've done it for Spectre they've started doing it for real that's great yeah you know I went to we went through New Mexico when we're on our trip right and this is not a joke cuz it was very funny cuz what what I know about New Mexico I think it's probably a desert M bunch of dust storms y right we're driving along entering New Mexico [ __ ] dust storm like as in like I had to slow down cuz I couldn't see where I was going it was like like [ __ ] like

Mad Max or like in promethus when that big cloud comes along yeah yeah and you're driving away from it yeah well driving into it I had to cuz you know I was trying to get to the other side right so it it was Mad Max style yeah yeah so yeah it just made me laugh I'm like cuz if I if I had thought beforehand what am I going to see in New Mexico Oh Roswell and dust storms yep tick both of those things and you couldn't see the aliens because the dust was so thick and because they're not real that too [ __ ] roswell's just a tourist trap by the way there's oh yeah I mean there's very little there if you if you're planning a trip like if you're going through there maybe stop in but I wouldn't I wouldn't seek it out I'll be

honest see you say that but [ __ ] Rachel Nevada was also not a lot there and I had a [ __ ] great time driving out that ridiculous place you that could okay maybe right because but we hadn't experienced that before true the desert here is very different to the Australian Outback right yes like geographically it's just it looks very different and feels different and we hadn't experienced that so that might that's true I mean I think that was a factor whereas this time I've seen it before once you've seen one secret alien installation you've seen them all yeah no but I will say that like I was dead set Keen to see Area 51 than I was to see Roswell yeah the best thing in Roswell was the fact that the McDonald's is shaped like a

UFO that's not a joke wow McDonald's is is shaped like a UFO I'd go to it I'd I'd go to a McDonald's shaped like a UFO in Mexico and I used the restroom and then I left nice I do not eat McDonald's here yeah and we've had that discussion too yeah I was in a developing Nation recently and uh I I wanted to go to McDonald's and they sent an armed guard with me really yeah I had a I had an armed bodyguard escort me to McDonald's wow that's awesome you can cut that into a coherent sentence I think Jenna's going to edit this one so oh so I'm back at work so oh yeah well so she's back at work then too is our editor producer well oh [ __ ] we didn't announce that this is going to be late either I'll have to do that today well it's not
