okay one two three I can't hear you anymore oh can how about now no oh that's my fault hang on hello hello hello hello okay okay just it's my fault okay if you poop again we should be good three two one I booped cuz I saw you do the Motions even though I couldn't hear you and then realized I made a mistake I should have said something anyway just because because that I don't know what I thought was going to happen but you what would have happened is that you would have had to have kept Faking It the entire show yeah halfway through I've got to be honest don't know what you're saying welcome to multiple

nerdgasm with your hosts Matt Luke and Dan multiple nerdgasm your guide to All Things nerdy Commodore 64 I can see what he's highlighting roll I'm just going to talk about these things yeah in order the rust shooting uh I'm watching Finding Nemo oh yeah with my daughter this morning um that movie starts with some random fish having his whole family massacred it's it's brutal it's the opening of the film I've forgotten just how just how violent some of these Disney movies start right because when you were before you had a child you didn't care or notice no any fish could have any member of his family

murdered and I just wouldn't care just don't care about fish now the other one I uh I always think of is up yeah beginning of up where he his wife dies is just same thing I mean there's a Disney curse where are the moms no no Disney girl has a mom Ariel's mom gone Belle's mom gone poon's mom gone Jasmine's mom gone where are these moms huh where is jasine Disney hates women yeah right as well as Disney likes young women just doesn't like old women wait wait is that a thing no no no I'm I'm just all right just and it based on what you've told me yeah sure sure sure sure yeah once they get to a certain age ride them out of the story but we always talk about we always talk like DiCaprio does you're going to draw her yeah um we always talk about how they

don't make movies as scary as they did when we were kids but maybe they do yeah we just don't notice anymore oh it's different it's a little different but yeah well there were murdered moms in Disney when we were kids and there Disney's still murdering everyone but those aren't the ones we talk about when we talk about the movies that were more no we talk about Dark Crystal and how just [ __ ] nightmarish it is yeah exactly yeah so the one that I always think about is never- Ending Story right which I would actually probably put if I had to name my top five nostalgic great i' name the moon child it probably be Star Wars Raiders Goonies uh Back to the Future and Never

Ending Story if I had to do five six to 10 would be a close you know a close second lot of five prob swap go in Labyrinth just cuz Labyrinth was very sure yeah on rotation that's probably number six for me yeah but still all good all good but something I learned recently about never- Ending Story cuz it was always the one that I held up as like two scary for kids like we could deal with it you know what I mean we could deal with a horse dying of sadness and like do you remember how that movie ended he was trying to save Fantasia from the nothing and in the end the nothing wins like Fantasia does get destroyed but then in the end there's like one grain of sand and she says if there's one grain of sand and one person remembers it we can rebuild like he

doesn't save it there's just hope that they can one day maybe rebuild like that's Bleak that is Bleak [ __ ] for kids right oh but there were sequels stand so obviously it worked out all right yeah it wasn't a Never Ending Story there were there were two more and then it ended no it ended when those bullies got knocked in the trash yeah that's right um by an actual falor in real life was that was that really happening at what point did that yeah but anyway I learn you just you just don't know yeah don't ask decide for yourself Luke's not here this week so talk about movies like this or we want he's fine just putting that thought we mentioned that well is he out of all of us que land oh that's true I think people probably worry about him more than they worry about us when we

say someone's not yeah if he's not here yeah true he's always hurting himself I uh learned something about Never Ending Story this week that blew my [ __ ] mind right did you know this the the never- Ending Story that you saw right and that I saw and that was the only version we had available to us yeah remake of a German movie that came out a few years earlier I didn't that and by remake I mean it used the same shots but was a completely new construction of an existing movie Never Ending Story is a German film right based on a German book and the Germans when they were getting funding for it thought it's probably in our best interest to get funding outside of Germany as well and they got some British and maybe American Funding too

so they thought okay let's shoot this so that we can dub it into both English and German right right they then proceeded to make a film a German film in German in the language of Germany right yeah yeah yeah and uh you with me what is that language called I can never remember anyway and then uh released it it was a big hit and then years later like a couple of years later sold the rushes and the rights to an American Studio who then took those rushes and made their own movie out of it did their own Musical score made their own pop song to be the opening of it put it in the order they wanted and released it as a completely unique movie so when you watch the German version it's different it's different but the actors and scenes are the same is that what

you're saying yeah yeah so even Bas when you think about it Bastian speaks English he speaks English but barely any of the other characters are actually speaking English if you look closely that's fascinating I didn't know that no neither did die and apparently CU you know we Turtle isn't speaking English that's right exactly that snail that you can ride yeah so if you watch behind the scenes like that guy who rides the snail is speaking German onet his dialogue is being recorded in German the little kid Bastion he's not he's an American actor cuz they were like when this eventually comes out in America they're going to they're going to need this guy to be speaking that's really interesting okay and evently and the reason I bring this up is because apparently even though we

consider never any story to be a very dark film the German version is Bleak as [ __ ] it's a laugh right no apparently because you know how like our version has like quite uh like adventurous uplifting music apparently the German n [ __ ] that they've just got this like drone uhhuh uhhuh yeah right oh now I got to find it and learn to speak German I can just watch it yeah you you you'd roughly know what they're saying exactly yeah the nothing oh I wish I knew what that was in German that I could just parrot that back to you but I've got no idea what nothing is in German the N thing day nine uh great movie great movie is it a great movie you know what I I don't know

I think it is no I think it is speaking of great movies I watched some great movies this week one on your list was on my list too Matt oh is that we watched the same movie sort of is that what you're saying one of them one of one of these three movies you've written down I also watched this week and when I say Dan watches some horror movies one of these movies is one of the ones I mentioned which one is it I need to know all right let me let me I'm like is the more the most recent one is it the most recent one no it isn't it's the second to most recent one I watched the nighthouse this week did [ __ ] off that's the most obscure one I know right yes that's very unusual and I was going to tell you all about it cuz it's so [ __ ] good listeners this is

not a bit this is a a fairly obscure horror movie that I saw or Jenna found on Hulu no particular reason this is not secret place where I watch movies it's not a new film or anything all right no I was just looking for good horror movies this one looked good and it was good and this is one of the oh we could start here we could start by talking about this movie this is one of the few horror movies that I've watched recently that didn't [ __ ] itself at the end like didn't fall apart like right to the end I was still like this is awesome yeah I saw some reviews people on on the internet I looked up afterwards cuz and I people either didn't get it or or were complaining about certain things that I'm like oh I mean you have to be bit nitpicky there to worry about that but

yeah I felt like it was strong all the way through and I said to Jenna I really hope this is going somewhere because it's very uh tense and ambient and it's not explaining itself which I like and unless we get to the end and it still hasn't done yeah doesn't have to explain everything but I still have to feel like oh I get it okay yeah and that's exactly what it did it went by the way here's why you were scared here's why you should still be scared after the movie is finished and still wondering about stuff but here just enough that you feel you haven't wasted your time me and it didn't explain things that it didn't really need to like certain things he was doing like you can you can almost come up with your own explanation

for certain things like I don't want to spoil anything for the listeners but well we've not even told them anything remotely about this plot so okay so the M this point it's called The Nigh house and it's about a woman whose husband commits suicide out of the blue and she doesn't know why and she starts to suspect something strange was going on because she finds uh a photos of women she doesn't know who they are on his phone and they all look a bit like her mhm and then then she finds plans for the house he helped build the house and then she finds amongst his things plans for a reverse layout version of their house and she's like the [ __ ] is that about yeah and so he was an architect they lived in a house he designed and then

somewhere there's a duplicate of their house in Reverse why and she starts having dreams that he's not dead well yeah it's a little weird it's hard to explain it's it's very um [ __ ] good it is good it's very surreal I guess it's actually quite hard to describe yeah but not in a way that like don't write this off as some Art House thing no it's a very good it's like how you would imagine a ghost story actually would pan out where you kind of like sure everything's just like a little bit it's it's not like blatant everything's just a bit off for quite a long time and you go it is weird but it's not like in the end the The Twist is ghosts did it like there's still a very human element to the story but it is still a supernatural horror right and

I like it even I mean not to I don't want to it's not a spoiler I don't think but even I was thinking about it later and I was like you know what it could all have just been nothing oh yeah it does leave that there technically yeah as an option yeah he might have just been insane right and then all the other stuff she was just traumatized and it didn't actually even happen oh actually no um I've just realized that can't be quite true I think cuz there is does interact with other people who confirm so there is some stuff well you see you say that but actually you could write that cuz nothing happened to that person she interacts with oh good point good point so you could reasonably that's the only one yeah you're right that's the only one yeah um interesting sorry

listeners we're being very vague but you should watch this film if you're like it's very creepy Thriller horror but you're right it is it is kind of like that um we would talk about Lovecraft just about every week but it is kind of like a Lovecraft story where they always start with um I'm insane and I'm going to kill myself after I write this but just listen to my crazy tale first like yeah yeah good atmosphere it's um from the director of I've forgotten what the other thing was when I looked it up I was like oh that guy oh okay I don't even know if I looked into this so let me have a look now David Brookner the ritual yes that's a [ __ ] amazing movie ritual is excellent um he did the hell ra very underrated which uh I not seen

no but I was like oh I should watch it if he did it cuz his stuff's good and then some of these um the signal and those VHS horror movies you did those too so yeah yeah a few good things oh the signal yeah okay yes oh yes I remember that beyond the gates I think seen this it's like a lowbudget horror movie which one beyond the gates I think I might have seen that at some point I don't think I know but anyway yeah the night house highly recommended really good performances too like the actress is great yeah and in fact I was like I think I've seen her in other things and I looked back through and what I thought versus Godzilla she was in yeah and she's also she's well she's also in the

prestige she's the wife that says you don't love me today some days you do love me and I was like [ __ ] off yeah right yeah okay yeah no she's great yeah she's excellent and I'm trying to think is anybody else in this that I knew I don't think so with barely any yeah small cast yeah small cast and small locations too I just thinking like this could have been a yeah the budget's quite tidy on this I bet was like oh yeah it's just it's just good like yeah yeah correct oh cool so you didn't watch any of these other ones I've seen one other one I haven't seen I know which one it's going to be one yeah you've not seen M3 no I haven't seen m3an and I'm probably not going to watch it to be honest the reason we watched m3an or Megan or Megan if you're

American Megan they would call it the reason we watched that is because one day lra got the remote for the Apple TV and just started clicking things and she was scrolling through movies got to Megan I don't think she chose it on purpose but she was just clicking on things scroll down click the like went down scrolled down highlighted the buy button and I like to buy the movie and and I said oh honey know and I stood up to get it and you know that's a mistake because she just start of pushing the button whatever I was going to do has to happen really quickly so she was like bye bye bye bye bye bye bye and then it came up and I was like are you sure you want to buy this and I was like no [ __ ] off no um so she didn't buy it but it did put the movie on my

radar so it's a horror is movie I would have thought this might have been on your radar to begin with yeah I didn't know what it was to be honest until that happened I I I didn't realize that that was like a robot okay it's an Android either yeah I'll be honest I think I thought this was a James Juan he wrote the script yeah it is James Juan a verse yeah yeah so this movie is about a uh I guess she's a programmer of sorts she she builds robots a robotic engineer who makes toys for kids she's got this side project that's like a a robot it's like a you know an Android I guess to like be

friends with kids and uh and then she because her her sister and her brother-in-law are killed in an accident and she's the legal becomes the legal guardian of her niece and she's a she's a nerd robotic engineer doesn't know how to look after kids or anything like that it's a whole situ situation so she figures well I'll just get this robot that I made to look after her yeah she programmed the robot right yeah but it's one of it's it's one of those movies where the robot is just it's [ __ ] Skynet from the GetGo sure like the robot smarter than anybody else in this movie just she just magically managed to do that which is whatever at least yeah yeah they said that's how aced it and M

yeah exactly yeah oh this movie's robots a genius got it no worries yeah I'll try not to think about it too much but there were a few things where they'd say oh it's because of this and I was like [ __ ] off all right whatever yeah that's ridiculous fine fine yeah so anyway the the the robot prioritizes the little girl over a lot of other stuff which becomes a problem and and yeah sure uh it's pretty good it's a okay PG-13 for sure horror movie yeah like I don't think there's any Gore or anything in it of any does the robot start to kill is that what happens yes oh you know what there is Gore in it and it's actually quite interesting I don't want to spoil it because it's just an

interesting choice they they don't show one thing but they do show something else that I was like [ __ ] that's an interesting decision to not show this fly I yeah I don't know how to say it without spoiling it but like is it a spoiler I mean does anyone care if I spoil this movie I suppose not all right so at one point the the the the the robot kills a dog right but you don't see any of that you just kind of hear it off screen and another Scene It chases this kid through the woods and he runs out of the road gets hit by a [ __ ] car you see that in all its gory detail Jesus and I was like sorry so we're not allowed to see the dog get killed but we can watch this kid be run over by a car that's interesting um when I made my um

notorious [ __ ] TV comedy in Singapore um where the sensors made us remove the punch line for pretty much all the jokes um there was one scene where a dog gets hit by a car and they made us remove it and they made us they made us cut away I wonder if for some reason it was some silly thing like that where they were like we can't see the we didn't want to show the or or the way they shot the dog was particularly bad or something or the way we shot it was that we had a dog we had the camera locked off we had the dog sitting in the middle of the road and we we paused we removed the then we put a watermelon where the dog was and then had a car come and actually run over the watermelon so when you cut it together it just looks like the dog just exploded into a red [ __ ] ppy

mess it was awesome it would have been really good and really funny too but uh yeah right yeah so it's just an interesting like I guess technically you don't see the kid get hit but you definitely see the aftermath I'm trying to think back my my memory my brain might have done some of the work there for them it's just definitely more graphic in that case than it is the the dog which right right yeah and in the middle of a what otherwi PG movie yeah right yeah I think that is the most graphic thing in the movie is just that so but uh it's fairly you know predictable and you know we picked what was going to happen at the end when something got set up in the at the beginning we were like oh yeah okay that's going to come up again and it did

I see it you're W in a movie script yeah and but you know it was enjoyable yeah fair enough it's all it needs to do really I think that's it probably aimed to do it's for just have you enjoy it the next movie I'm not sure I'd say was enjoyable as such it was very good yeah it's excellent but [ __ ] me yeah you wouldn't go oh yeah I love this it's you want you want to watch a funny movie Midsummer [ __ ] hell yeah yeah a movie that does only at the end of the movie you go so what where are we now with this yeah yeah what is what's she going how do I feel about it and yeah how did I feel about any of this really other than gross yeah so listens if you haven't seen Midsummer I don't know whether you should watch it it depends mids M sorry mid somar it's about

actually sort of similar setup it's about a girl who's a little different her sister murder suicides herself and her parents and she's distraught so her boyfriend who was gon to dump her takes her on a trip to Sweden instead yeah yeah because it doesn't it's relevant but it doesn't really come up no like as such again no and it would have been the same amount of horror if that hadn't been a thing yeah it's almost unnecessary that that happened yeah like it's it's it's almost like they went should we put in just one more horrific thing yeah or like he just wrote it like like chronologically from the beginning and then got lost in what happened after that and then forgot oh wait a minute yeah that's right this horrible thing happened to her at the beginning that I've

to be you the movie it is somewhat relevant but anyway yes she goes to Sweden to this town that it's not a town like a village that's apparently famous but like I'm baffled by how it can be famous for what goes on there in this movie like people know do people know about this or not we're completely cool with it yeah yeah and it's basically like they're Vikings and they do Viking things like you know like in yeah Norman they throw themselves off a cliff when they get too old and stuff like that and it's yeah it gets worse from there although Norman spoilers they don't well that's yeah it's the opening scene of the first season so not really a spoiler I think it's supposed to be a surprise in mid somar when that happens but as soon as they said I think at one point

they depict all the various stages of life and then it says he says oh you know from this age to this age this age to this age and then from this age to 70 you you do this and someone says oh what do you do when you get to 70 and he goes and I said oh yeah they throw you off a cliff and then cut to 10 minutes later in the movie yeah yeah quite uh quite viscerally brutal I did not expect yeah watermelons if you've got a weak stomach don't watch it anyway it's and like I said things go downhill from there and it's quite subtle in Parts like like that scene not subtle right very violent and and and brutal other things more subtle like it shows you that artwork she says oh what's this and they say it's a love story and it just

pans along it and you can kind of just take it in and you can see what's happening in there is it's some the girl's performing some kind of love spell and she puts pubes and her some of her blood in the drink and like and then you just see that go past and you go that's a bit weird and then later on the girl's boyfriend finds a pube in his food and they don't comment on it like that it's just you go oh okay and and then his drinks a different color to the others stuff like that it's like okay now this is also by the same guys that made other stuff too if hereditary which I didn't like as much AR which I didn't like as much as everyone I like quite a lot yeah I think uh maybe I just watched it on a bad day but I just I just never quite that also

right the there's a very famous scene in hereditary which again yes both of these movies are quite old so I'm not too worried about spoilers but there's a scene where the sister's you see the sister's head on the side of the road yeah right it's or you see it sticking the head out the window and then it gets yes cut off but then they have just a graphic shot of it on the side of thead lat with all the bugs on it and everything like that for no good reason yeah true you didn't need to see that it wasn't like what happened to her head we you knew what happened yeah yeah but where's the head I see body with no head but where's the head yeah so again it just so there's that but then also a bunch of other subtle stuff in that movie so oh interesting but that was one

of the movies though that I thought the ending let me down a bit I just by the time it ended I was like uh I don't know there was a cult in the shed or something yeah it just no I can't remember I remember I like I it got it I went along with it and yeah I think maybe I just something early on pissed me off and then I didn't go along with it but you you got to go along with it or you you know that's every movie but I watched another horror movie this week that I'd seen only once when it first came out and then not again and remembered not really liking it or just thinking that it didn't lead up to the hype and then for the second time only this week I went back and watched The Blair Witch Project oh yeah and I can just say having watched this now 20 odd

years after it came out this is a [ __ ] excellent movie yeah I'm talking the first one the Blair Witch Project found footage I mean aside from it being largely improvised from what I recall completely improvised so essentially what happened was that the two guys that directed it had kind of plotted out what they wanted to happen and then didn't tell the actors and then put the actors in the bush and just said keep trying to get to this place and film each other doing it have conversations and stuff here's who your characters are and then occasionally we're going to give you motivations that will only tell one of you what the motivation what their character's motivation is so it's almost like a drama game you know so one gets told you've got to lose the map and and

then but don't tell the others that you've lost the map for example and then one you know stuff like that so it was yeah largely improvised but I think it was the hype of this movie that just destroyed it for me because like sure when it first came out it was marketed as a documentary more or less you know but I think I I was annoyed that people thought it was real but I I mean in hindsight like we were pretty much told it was so I guess I I shouldn't have been too harsh on it you know the people that bought into it yeah and as a marketing machine it was it was impressive in and of itself but just watching it now just as a movie it's very good it's tense you don't know what's going on the ending is [ __ ] terrifying and

also there's guy standing in the corner Dan I don't know [ __ ] man that is so good because it's a call back to just one throwaway line at the start of the film like I got to watch it and it is it's very good and and again it's one of those things where you're like is it a witch or is it some [ __ ] creepy dude who lives in the woods or is it yeah it's it's it's very good I I really like I I remember the law of it better than I remember the film yeah yeah no the film is very good and the um evidentally they also if you went to IMDb in the kind of months leading up to this movie coming out and you looked up any the actors it literally said missing presumed dead like to the point where apparently their parents were getting calls from like old friends and

relatives go I'm so sorry about what happened I mean this it was the movie that made all the fan footage movies like this was there weren't any before this and then now everything everything for years everything was a [ __ ] found footage movie yeah well and and the sequel to the blue witch which was not and was from memory was quite good I still liked the second one actually yeah yeah do the same thing yeah mirax turned this down evidently and then felt so [ __ ] about it they went and made uh paranormal activity which is you know just their their equivalent of a found footage movie yeah yeah as far as I know there's this great episode of Dawson's Creek where on the the Dawson's Creek

crew who you know I don't know if you ever watched much Dawson's Creek but the whole thing is that Dawson wanted to be a film director right that was kind of his stick so they go to this wherever they filmed uh huh Blair Witch to to make a documentary about the phenomenon of Blair Witch and as they get there they get into this guy's boat and they're like oh hey dude can we film you for a documentary we're making about the Blair Witch and the guy in the boat takes out a camera he go can I film you for the documentary I'm making about idiots who come here to documentaries about the blue that's pretty good yeah yeah put it back on the list man I don't remember but I remember at the time

thinking it was okay but I don't know if you can go back to it now I've got I got some other horror movies on my list uh that I've got lined up I've got X and pearl lined up cuz I haven't seen those yet do it both exellent very different but uh Ty West makes good movies and then he did terrifier as well right one and two he's got another one coming out also with uh Mia go he isn't he yeah [ __ ] hell just keeps making him he does yeah and but he's really come into his own in the last couple like X and pearl are like kind of their own thing different I mean like he's like just keeps making them and making him like he's not slowing down or anything you know what I mean oh yeah I mean he doesn't spend much money on him either from what I can tell

cuz I remember terfy too came out there's a lot of hype about it and now he's he's already doing got another one coming out it's like all right cool no he's good both of those are good you'll like those cool and uh there's a couple of Scream movies I got to catch up on because the new ones coming out yeah I know man the Scream movies are such a mixed bag the first two I rate I'll probably forget to be honest it's just that they're coming the new ones coming out so I keep seeing stuff about it I'm like oh yeah the problem is the problem is they do continue enough that you if you're going to watch any you do owe it to yourself to have caught up yeah the thing that annoys me now is when you look at cuz I was like what what have I missed how many are there and I've

missed two or maybe even just one I'm not sure if I've seen number four I have to double check but it goes four is [ __ ] garbage it goes scream scream two scream three scream four mhm scream scream yeah Scream Six okay guys what yeah yeah what was that there was a couple of years ago there was definitely a trend in just calling remake SL sequels the same name which I found bizarre and I'm glad they're moving away from that it's what if it's like a remake or reboot I think it's probably fine but if it's just the next one what are you doing yeah it's just [ __ ] confusing Yeah well yeah this was kind of a soft anyway scream not the not the original one the the

more recent film called that is the continuation of the story that has the characters and actors from the first one in it so it's no one's going to be confused about the fact that it's like like why did you not just call it screen five and they reference things that have happened it's not like mind you though it's the same story line so it is kind of a soft reboot but they all kind of are yeah like yeah and I guess I haven't seen it maybe they were trying to do something clever cuz that's what scream was West CRA trying to do something clever succeeded yeah yeah introverted that's not what I meant to say um subverting int introspect subersive oh introspective yeah yeah yeah yeah right he was he was trying to it was a comment films itself was a horror movie

about horror movies you know yeah yes and especially since West Craven was one of the pioneers of the slashers genre yes and and here he is parodying it yeah and wildly successful in my opinion like it's just such a also he is notorious for his films just having sequels after sequels after sequels so Scream 2 was also clever because it parody horror film sequels yeah yes and then he got very depressed about what happened after that with all the others cuz he's like this is not what I wanted yeah that's right yeah so yeah they're on the list and then I don't know what else some other stuff probably yeah going to be so no that's on the list I got to watch that that's one of the whest kids you know guys wrote directed that to yeah

yeah that's right one of the ones that's still alive correct y um watch that I like that very well however I have recommended that to people who have literally rang me afterwards and going I'm never taking film recommendations from you again really so but I I think you'll like it I liked it and I thought the ending was good but what do I know I do know it's been hard to avoid because it was a kind of a sleeper hit so I do know that it I don't want to spoil anything for listeners it's not spoiler I don't even know anything about it I just know that it changes what it is that changes what you think it is okay all right sure yeah yeah okay in a in a in a I'll watch it it it's it

doesn't try to be too clever but what it does do it does well okay all right excellent I I've really liked it I I can't I can't imagine you not liking this all right we'll find out in oh we will 2 3 weeks when I get back cuz I'm not going to watch that without Jenna that's what the problem is all these movies I'm listing now I can't I have to watch them with Jenna cuz otherwise that's you know yeah so I'm funny H loves the idea of horror movies but doesn't like to watch them right so she'll start watching them and then she'll either start going on Wikipedia halfway through to find out how it ends which I hate because somehow her knowing what happens transfers the knowledge to me I'm like sure you'll ruin it she like I won't say anything but then she'll go

oh and then I'm like oh well now I know there's a Twist so now I'm going to be looking for a [ __ ] twist yeah or she's just not reacting to things and you go it's not yeah exactly exactly right so [ __ ] yeah oh cool I trying think I think I was going to say if I watched anything else actually that's quite a lot of stuff for me to have watched since the last episode to be honest I don't know what I don't know how that happened last episode of what sorry of this show I don't I've watched three fils in the last week that's very unusual for me oh sure yeah yeah so I guess we got lism going to bed successfully I guess yeah yeah um we don't oh do we have follow-up we have some sort of follow-up yeah so this is interesting because we talked two weeks

ago about how the roll dial books were being censored and how everyone's angry and then we we heard about how the James Bond books are being censored and half the people are angry and half the people are angry that they're not being censored enough and then I read this week that the Goosebumps books are going to be censored right but the difference here is it's the author of Goosebumps who's decided to censor them interesting what's he censoring he's just going to update them for the times he's just going to take out updated references he's just going to polish bit oh okay similar things I think to the uh roll di buns where it's like oh you know if you know you don't call a kid fat anymore and you don't tell a girl that she's probably going to grow up secretary well

I guess it depends right because if you talk those things yes or is he talking more like oh he's talking about you know putting a cassette in the tape player and kids these days if they read the book and like the [ __ ] is this guy talking about yeah I what cassette tape like that's true yeah like that kind of stuff I guess you could update you wanted to be able to just sell these books add infinite item to kids well okay you have to change them forever well so a listener listener Hannah sent in an article this week pointing out that not only do Publishers have the right but they've also got a kind of a responsibility to do exactly what you've just described if they feel that would keep the book in the kind of

public awareness so if if if your book is still perfectly relevant except that kids these days don't know what a tape player is and you write CD player instead yes don't write in I'm aware CDs are all obsolete but whatever the equivalent of that might be um and that that happens far more than you even suspect because it just I think in particular for a kids book that's probably more important as well because if you're an adult reading a book you're probably more likely to go oh that's probably some technology I've not heard of and you'll figure it out like like Old stepen King almost certainly have things that I was like the [ __ ] is he talking about and then I just figured it out yeah yeah a good example a book I my

daughter has is about the woman who ate the fly and then she swallows a spider to eat the fly and then she swallows a [ __ ] cat to eat that and then a and by the end she eats a horse we had that when I was a kid and she was dead by the end of it yeah oh yeah yeah she died no she doesn't die anymore Matt no she vomits she vomits all the animals out she's fine and they're all fine disgusting yeah no she died when I was a kid she's [ __ ] dead yeah yeah yeah in fact trying cover this swallows a horse she's dead of course it was like yeah of course she's dead you can't eat this kind of animal and that was the lesson don't eat a horse ho just stop yeah don't even eat the [ __ ] spider as far as I'm concerned none of the animals on this list yeah that's this list they're are

delicious animals yeah they've got to be prepared though kids you can't just shove a pig in there yeah they've got to be prepared you've got to tell them in advance that they're going to be eaten yeah yeah okay evidently and and you're a vegetarian so you might appreciate this story you might already know it but um somebody that I knew who worked kind of on farms and stuff told me once that they have this there was a name for it which I forget but they keep one cow alive when they take cows off to the abire to be slaughtered right because cows are smart enough to know that if all the cows go and none of them come back so fine yeah so what they do is they bring all the cows in they take 99% of them off to be slaughtered and then they take one back to just go it's fine it's

just a car ride guys he's just standing there like staring into the distance B Bob you're all right mate I don't want to talk about it he all right talk about it where's everyone else and the farmer goes Bob you [ __ ] can tell him everything's fine or your next mate that's right yeah but is it always like is next time also Bob that comes back again or does Bob get done that time yeah maybe well I I don't know I forgot to ask any follow-up questions cuz I just found it kind of like terrifyingly just terrifying in some existential way that the be I'm not going to kill you I want you to tell all your friends about me I want you to tell all your friends about me I'm beef man yeah that yeah I didn't know that that

is I mean yeah that surpr me here's here's a funny little bit of of of trivia I watched recently um a comparison of all the video game tie-ins for the 1989 Batman movie right so just yeah so there ocean did a bunch for the um uh 8 and 16 bit computer scene and then and um Japanese company did The Seer and and Nintendo ones right yeah pretty different very different right with because they're not they're not even no one person and they were being developed when I was younger I was I was confused because the one I had my ComEd 64 was what I knew and then I'd play one at my friend's house and I was like the

[ __ ] is this yeah yeah yeah yeah same yeah um I had the Amega version um quite Sim yeah yeah they were very similar both bi ocean but um the was it ficon is that what the Japanese nintend system yeah yeah so in the ficon version there's this one cut scene where Batman grabs some dude and says where's the Joker and the guy goes oh Gotham City and Batman goes Gotham City where's that like implying that Batman is not from Gotham City all right and uh is Oliver Harper who does the the comparison he's like are they implying that like he's like this guy can't have known a single thing about Batman if he's writing in that Batman is confused by the phrase Gotham City the Joker lies yeah that's right yeah he's gotten that far but it's not

common knowledge he had to ask someone no well no one knows who Batman even is Dan how's he supposed to know this poor guy fair fair y that's funny I was um be killed they say he drinks blood I watched a video oh no there a video no an article I read about the um the the the the comic book tie-in for the Batman movie and how they were basically working down to the wire on the comic book while the movie was being shot and the movie was being changed and the movie got changed after the comic book was locked and they were like we can't [ __ ] change it anymore it's not possible it's being colored in right now so so there's discrepancies in that there are some scenes in uh in the comic book that aren't in the movie anymore and some scenes play out quite

differently and there's a one thing in particular is and I guess it is a bit unclear what is it that makes the Joker have the smile like do you know do you know what it's supposed to be like cuz I listen you seen this is the the think I assumed that it was the botched plastic surgery while he was being fixed up coming out of the toxic waste no cuz what happens is this is this is in the 1989 Tim bur Batman movie listeners Jack Napier shoots eart right Batman yes yeah bounces off his well it does look like the bullet goes through his cheeks that's what I always thought that's not what it's supposed to be the bullet and and if you watch it with this knowledge you can see that's kind of what they're going for the bullet Ricochet off Batman's Gauntlet hits the

control panel and the glass severs the nerves in his face oh I see yeah and then he falls into the the toxic waste and it bleaches his skin and col and he BEC a joker but it's just yeah anyway it's justes that even in the comic book it's very clear that that's what's happening yeah right film it's a little more probably because the comic book's working off the script which explicitly States glass flies out from the and the Joker goes oh the glass has severed the nerves in my face then when he falls in which Jack nichon just refused to say the lines ridiculous well he did refuse to be called anything but Jack is that true I believe that's true but now that I've said it surely there was a Jack Napier in the comics or did that make up that name just for the movie well the

Joker didn't have an origin I don't think this doesn't have one set origin but I think there's been oh someone's someone's yelling at their probably iPhone right now yeah yeah don't don't bother doing that send us an email that's probably the best way to get our attention it's unlikely we're within ear we can't hear you yeah it's very unlikely I had a novelization as the as always [ __ ] when I was a kid I love noiz the shelf behind me Dan yeah so I also by Sam ham yes it is by Sam ham yeah but mine I had the audio book on cassette tape just to bring this back right oh yeah read by a cassette tape read by Rody McDow of all people [ __ ] off [ __ ] yeah so if you don't know who Rod mcdal is you probably know him from Planet of the Apes or you might know him as

Bookworm from the 1960s Batman on a minute Ry McDow I've got to find this if it exists yeah hold on I got to find it too now that I Ry McDow Batman andless so it just brings out Bookworm oh my God eBay Rod McDow reads Batman on cassette still it's on cassette it's $15 oh get it how would you play it how would you even play it uh the only cassette tape thing I have is my com 64 one and I don't think that's going to work that is man see phenomenal I didn't know that was a thing that's ridiculous who the [ __ ] was like who can we get to read this can we do you think we can get Ry McDow do you

think he's up for it yeah a moon we yeah I mean maybe if he just [ __ ] loves Batman and just wants to be part which of the two Ronn ronnes is McDow again yeah that's right listeners if you don't know what The Two Ronnies is good for you I guess SK show I went I told you I went into a who Ronnie's [ __ ] rabbit hole about 3 weeks ago did you I this is they they are writing sketches in the 60s or whenever this was 1971 70s that I'm funnier than anything they've got this one called four candles right the guy comes in and he's like uh yeah like four candles please and he's like yeah right get some gets four candles brings them out he's like n four candles handles for Forks this goes on for 10 minutes as he says things that sound like other things it's amazing

listeners go to YouTube Type in four candles and just [ __ ] enjoy enjoy yourself there's one where they have you know that show Mastermind where they just it's one person in a chair and they just ask him questions yeah quiz one dude's got this weird thing where he only answers the question you asked him before right so the previous he answers the previous question when you ask him another question so he's like um what's your name and he's like fine thanks is like and how are you today and he's like Jim so like he just but then the way that it escalates it starts getting really funny because the questions start having relevance to the last questions I'm explaining it badly go to [ __ ] seriously Two Ronnies are way funnier than you remember them being all right

I'll check it out and then I'll listen to him read Batman I don't I can't imagine clear rdy McDow is not one of The Two Ronnies I'm the um I'm confused no Rod mcdal is from oh my God you're right I've just Googled him I'm like oh that guy yeah he's [ __ ] Cornelius from uh right fright night he's he's the guy from Fright Night um yes he is yeah right well I feel like a fool no no I thought you were doing a bit it works it works just dumb no I mean there's no reason anyone should know Rod McDale or the two rodes but it's it's all worth it but seriously get the buy this [ __ ] Batman tape man you got to you got to buy it all right for the for the simple fact that I had

forgotten do you remember this Batman was so popular in 1989 that just black background and that [ __ ] bat symbol logo was on everything oh yeah and I I had to buy it like I had to buy anything that had that [ __ ] Insignia on it all right I'm going to put this in the show notes we don't need to buy it because it's in the spreadsheet down the bottom no way oh my God Batman read by Rod McDow just listen just play that first one second of it just to listen and you'll still think to yourself why him I often wondered if I was related to Sam ham when I was a kid maybe you are same surname listeners in case for some reason you don't know my surname I'm not oh I mean I don't think

so so my my family name on my mom's side is Stevenson and my grandfather always told us that great great-grandfather was Robert Le Stevenson and I I can't disprove that but I'm fairly certain it's not true I hope it's true but yeah I heard I heard a journalist I heard a journalist the other day say a phrase it was a fact too good to check and I was like I love that we have a lot of those on this show we do yeah it's a story of my life I'm like good enough for me good enough for me that headline I don't want to read the rest of the article just in case yeah oh man so you know we talk about we talk about how headlines are just [ __ ] lies these days right yes yep like misleading to the point of just being liar I saw one that absolutely

Takes the Cake and I wanted toz not only do they not fact check they embellish what they do what they just heard anyway we can talk about how what how what what are we looking at here all right we got a bit of time um a little bit of Star Wars news do we want to put Star Wars news on the table Star Wars news yeah yeah let's do some Star Wars news I mean I [ __ ] hate Star Wars but we're not going to have a geek of the week this week obviously because Luke's not here so might as well have some Star Wars news instead now you know what I I'm going to put a geek in the weekend because I I need to I need to say this and Luke know who it is and so I'm just going to say it anyway mat do you know who Topo is no Topo is an Israeli actor most famous for playing tevia the

Milkman in Fiddler on the Roof he died this week aged 89 it makes me sad he was also in Flash Gordon he was also one of the Bond movies he's in Flash Gordon which I like yeah and he died and uh I'm sad because uh he's great of course Han zakov yeah yeah he was the yeah the doctor he's got a very deep voice what a stupid movie that I love Yeah movie stupid but man I just yeah yeah enjoyable as [ __ ] when you're a kid it just couldn't cast Max von sidow as as Ming anymore could you no you couldn't you couldn't cast a white man as a well he's not I guess the thing is he's not not just Scandinavian

he's as white as you could possibly but if these days they' go well Ming's not Asian he's from another planet yeah Ming and why does he to ch's hat yeah why is he called Ming why he why is he got that makeup on to look like that yeah that's right yeah true true um yeah that's up there with uh Mickey Mickey's his name Mickey uh breakfast at Tiffany yeah but also the only bad thing about that movie and the director yeah I think said if he could go back and do anything you'd make it exactly the same but he just wouldn't have that in there yeah and the thing is you could probably just edit that out now like I don't know why

they don't to be honest it's pointless there's no point to that character being in that movie no it's just a bit of listeners if you don't know a it just in the same block of flats as the two lead characters is a Japanese photographer and he's a [ __ ] idiot and he played by a [ __ ] white American actor who just does it so over the top that it couldn't possibly have not been offensive at the time it's incredibly racist yeah like there's nothing redeeming about it like I said doesn't even need to be in there it's almost like they're like cuz the movie is not a comedy it's a no it's a little funny in other parts but it's not not a comedy certainly not that kind of Comedy it's just such a weird scene and any there's what like two or three moments

that he's in it's like why is that there yeah yeah I mean then there's I mean there's Yu Brena who played the King of Siam in The King and I who's a [ __ ] Russian guy with Gypsy background I don't know why they thought he would be good for that but he doesn't play it for Laughs so I think you mean Romani Dan I think we call him the Romani now yeah that's that is true no I call them Star Wars news Star Wars news Star Wars news Star Wars news Star Wars news so we've got some Star Wars news Lucas film have allegedly we're going to find out a bunch more stuff about any of this garbage at the uh Star Wars celebration event coming up very soon y I'm sure they'll actually officially say things but the rumors right now are that they've just shed most of those movies we've been

talking about yeah for yeah the last three or four years whatever since last uh rise of Skywalker came out except the only one that they're still apparently working on is the Tao yti one which they've confirmed he will star in which as if we didn't know that yeah because he always just writes movies for himself to be in yeah and why wouldn't you I suppose because I'm not complaining I I enjoy by TD movie as much as anyone so yeah now is this the one that this is not the one where lindeloff was involved right there was a there was a lindeloff script that's I think that's gone there was one patty Jenkins one is done um there was one by have they finally acknowledged that Ryan Johnson is not getting his Trilogy didn't get a mention I feel like at this point they probably don't need

to yeah fair enough I don't think that's happening um oh Kevin feige from Marvel was apparently going to do one that's shoved as well holy [ __ ] wow they don't even trust him well man I mean everyone everyone hated that JJ Abram was that they were banking on just bringing it home without pissing anyone off what a disaster that whole thing was yeah so not only that they've uh they're being sued Now by one of The Producers they hired for the uh the series The acolyte which is set during the high Republic which is that new era like the before anything we've seen mhm you know it's it's set in the past um apparently they hired this this woman to be producer on the show and on that basis she turned down uh other work specifically for for a show on Apple TV and then two weeks

later they fired her and said well you didn't do any work so we're not going to pay you either and so now and then so now she's this is a tricky one because both jobs basically she got lost both of the jobs cuz Apple TV hired someone else cuz she said no sorry I'm working for Disney now that kind of that in it itself is not On Disney I think because I've been in situations where I've turned down one job to take another job and that's just kind of on me if that job didn't pan out yeah I suppose so I think the the dis the dispute is I think she signed a contract and they're now saying now there wasn't a contract which I mean that seems like fairly easy to prove one way or another so well it probably is easy enough to prove if you're not going against Disney

and their team of 40 lawyers so Disney have probably got to we can do what we want Clause yeah good point all right but uh yeah this is this isn't like um in the past where people have like Disney have fired this person no they've just not hired them again this person literally was fired as far as I can tell and and said they immediately started working on the show for two weeks and then got fired and so so which this was the acolyte right yeah okay yes oh interesting so I is not necessarily a teaser trailer but there was at least like a a logo reveal or something for this yes I believe so yeah this is yeah like I said set during the high Republic it's going to be they've got a bunch of stuff in that era already I haven't seen

any High Republic before or after Old Republic huh interesting you know what I don't know now I don't know Luke would probably know I've so lost interest did you know the Mandalorian season 3 is watchable I keep forgetting I've not watch watchable as in good or watchable as in it's as in watchable as in you could watch it I don't know I'm not commenting on the quality of it I haven't even seen the second half of Andor and not because I don't like Andor the first three episodes were great yeah that's a good show I just I'm burned out from Star Wars they've made too many and too much of it is garbage and you know what I learned this week it's the 20th anniversary of Clone Wars Clone Wars is

20 years old so that leads kind of into this other article right so someone asked John favra this week favro about the original theatrical cuts of Star Wars in an interview and said do you think we'll ever get those and he said what you need to realize is the number of people who actually give a [ __ ] about that is minute and and and dwindling like every day it's smaller and smaller because it's our generation and then the the majority of Star Wars fans now either saw the prequels so Star Wars is just completely different to them like they don't give a [ __ ] about what whatever we're talking about this theatrical business because it doesn't wouldn't make any sense to them anymore or there are most Star Wars fans the youngest Star Wars fans started

with the Clone Wars and [ __ ] yeah they don't know what they don't know what we're talking about when we say that's right yeah like oh the original Star we say little things like oh no it used to be that when you looked out that window you just Stars you didn't see clouds and ships gone by they' be like yeah that was just a w [ __ ] mate yeah like yeah they don't care but you know why because this it doesn't really matter that much to be honest no look I I'm realizing that day yeah but but he's right when he says it's dwindling because I don't even care now like honestly I don't even care now I read this article and I was like yeah he's right it's not worth but we have talked about the fact that there weren't an original theatrical cut because every Cinema a slightly

different version based on where he was up to in the process yeah so he didn't comment on any of that which I mean he I'm sure he probably knows that but his yeah his major point was just that nobody cares about that there's no there's yeah there's no market for them to do that and it would be a hassle because they really did go back for the special editions they really truly did go back to the original negatives yeah and reconstruct the film and the old ones are gone like yeah George luas wasn't lying when he said that there are copies of the films that were made for Cinemas but you can't remaster that the way they remaster stuff now yeah yeah cuz I remember at one point the Smithsonian or the American Film Institute or something was like we

want a copy of this like for posterity and was like there isn't a copy there isn't one version you could take because people say oh the people have film copies right but you can get those online right and you can download them and watch them that's not what people want what people want is Blu-ray remaster the same way you get all these other movies Blu-ray remaster from the original negative with all the imperfections fixed like beautiful crisp image that doesn't exist it's not possible it literally doesn't exist a version called the despecialized version where some dudes have try to reconstruct an approximation of that that's as close as you're ever going to get and it's pretty good so just just be thankful that that still exists right yeah but

anyway like I said and even if they could do it they won't forget about it it's done I saw a meme the other day that said um it had that scene where it's like uh he was our last hope and Yoda goes no there is another um there's and then it says people who have watched the Clone Wars no there are five to six others yeah well well that's yeah that's and that's what kids that is that is Star Wars mind you so we go that's a mess they go what what do you mean yeah yeah yeah it all just yeah cuz they watch it doing quotes yeah exactly yeah like but why did obiwan say this cuz he was [ __ ] lying to him mate yeah they

don't see it as a plot hole no um but I I wish I like the Clone Wars when I read about some of the plots in this in the Clone Wars like about how Quon was the first one to really study the force from a like a academic point of view to try to figure out how to transition I saw C I saw Clips there's an episode where uh somebody goes to a planet where you can commune with the force and talks to and yeah I've seen all these clips I'm like I guess I I guess I wish I liked this more it looks [ __ ] amazing when you just watch that and then you start from episode one you're like this is just a [ __ ] garbage kids show yeah like I think it took a little while cuz even the um the quality of the animation when I see those clips I'm like that's not

what I was watching I think you got to get past the first season or two cuz yeah yeah that first season is rough yeah for me anyway can't do it Yoda sitting on top of a tank going hello B to look behind you and they go where where and he like like I'm like what the [ __ ] is this yeah this isn't Star Wars I it's not my Star Wars yeah well guess what you don't you don't have star there's no your Star Wars anymore it doesn't exist it does it exists on the DVDs in my basement yeah in a have to remind myself that even when I was a kid there was still that Star Wars droids show cartoon spin-off there was courage which was [ __ ] garage not here so we can [ __ ] on that yeah yeah there was the [ __ ] holiday special

like it was never as pure as we pretend it was no no no we did that in our heads we did we all did collectively it was like a mass hysteria where we all remember it this certain way that it never was yeah well it was for us on our VHS tapes yeah I think that's you said this the other day you were like the version that we remember is not even this theatrical cut everyone keeps speculating about VHS yeah that's right yeah and the TV cut yeah whatever the the first time I ever watched Star Wars I taped it off the Telly I had to go to bed I set the tape up and record I went to bed cuz it got to 8:30 and I was a child my parents said go to bed in the morning I got up early and I watched like an hour of it before school and then I begged to be

allowed to stay home and watch the rest and they said no so I watched the rest when I got home yeah you spent the whole day just wondering [ __ ] if they decided to attack the Dead star yeah exactly yeah exactly and then uh and then I watched the rest of it that night and that's the first time I saw Star Wars yeah I had an ear achee like my ear drum ruptured as it did like three times when I was a kid and uh that's not funny my dad [ __ ] hilarious is it man my dad tricked me by telling me that um there was some kind of like Sonic cure where like sound waves would make it feel better so that I like I had to watch videos but what he was really the one was just trying to distract me which was genius right um so he went to the video store and he brought me back two

movies I'd never heard of Raiders the Lost Arc and Star Wars and uh I just watched the two movies just became my favorite movies forever yeah I don't remember the first time I watched Raiders even I mean this it would have been a similar scenario I'm sure it was on you know what I think I might have seen Temple of Doom first cuz it was on TV technically it's a prequel so actually that would work when did that come out that actually might be it they both of those were out before we were yeah yeah 84 I wasn't watching Templer Doom when I was four at least I shouldn't have been speaking of doing things you shouldn't do when you're four well weird um is this an Afterparty SE yeah I was going to throw to the after party and then I ruined it I ruined it
