other games that you would know of uh Flight of the Amazon queen just great games from from that era but they asked him how he got his start and basically his dad bought him an an amstrad CPC and um T taught himself to code on it and then during the Christmas holidays was like probably make my own game at this point um made a game put it on a cassette tape his mom found a publisher in the phone book sent it off and they wrote letter back going yeah look out for it in stores yeah it's funny how it all started like share where literally they used to mail discs and tapes and stuff around and you buy you get a catalog and you just go oh yeah that sounds good and then they mail it out to you yeah amazing that's how was it Kenan Roberto Williams first game they put

the courts I'm sorry there's more lawsuit news if we want to go straight straight for more legal legal stuff it's not haters I'm going to see Hans on Monday like I don't want to get arrested for anything no he hasn't he hasn't done anything what's the legal news the legal news is that Disney are being sued for using the likeness of Mr Peter Cushing in Rogue one I saw this and I kind of called [ __ ] go on so that's what Disney saiding this saying hey you yeah saying like he didn't use this in Rogue one he sold like his friend evidently you said like he said I have the rights and everything has to go through me when I read through this article I did not see anything where anyone was paid or there

was anything that happened with um episode 3 they used his likess in episode three I didn't look anything like him so I think that's probably why they could get away with um that the chrisen Glover situation right where they stuck p face on another actor and they he did successfully sue them yes I think if Disney had paid someone to use the likeness then they could reasonably argue we did our due diligence but I think they just went yay free actor cuz he's dead and made a CGI model oh is that true and so now this guy's come out and going well actually I'm in charge of his his likeness he told me to look out for him after he gone from what I hear they're pretty careful about that

because they couldn't get Harrison Ford to sign his over for a long time that's why toys of Han Solo and Indiana Jones didn't look like Harrison Fords because for a long time he was like no [ __ ] off but then now he's given in but but the other thing he likeness has been used at other times like in covers of books and cuz I thought they I thought when they signed you up for Star Wars they made sure they got all that so they could do what I don't know if they did that in the 70s though yeah would have had the forethought for that but then again maybe they just assumed they did he died in the '90s he lived a long time so actually maybe the stuff that came out on the book covers was while he was still alive oh yeah um no no it's definitely stuff

where the secret passage is he calls for the guard and even though I know where the secret passage is cuz I've [ __ ] played the game before my character doesn't know to look for it so right yeah but there's this great line in it that I'd forgotten from the game where one character says to you burden me not with thy poetry and I'm like oh I'm going to say that that's a great line I'm gonna say that to Shakespeare next time he comes around yeah um Sony announced something this week it's a PlayStation 5 Pro hm very expensive PlayStation price is it how much is a I reckon I paid at least this for my current Xbox $100 this is

$700 oh it's 700 us yeah that's expensive okay what is it the Xbox series X was 500 bucks so it's 200 bucks more and I think the PlayStation 5 I got was four something less yeah so it's expensive look I think the part of the cost is actually just a hard drive really well people are saying the footage that they showed they showed only old games that you could already play and it's hard to tell because you know all everything we see is streaming online and basically everyone's saying why would we spend $700 on this there's no evidence available that this is worth the money because it doesn't look better cuz I guess you have to see it in person like but no I don't think it is going to look better and I think this

where I think Microsoft is doing the right thing they are releasing their sort of own sort of mid generation one but it's not saying it's a pro or anything it's just like bigger hard drive it's a little bit faster but it's not saying it's going to revolutionize anything which it's a mid midcycle one it's not meant to revolutionize anything it's just meant to be a yeah well cuz someone said here oh actually the um the Final Fantasy 7 remake looks a lot better on PS5 Pro but then in the comments the replies to that people said it doesn't look $700 better and then the person said I didn't say it did look $700 better I just said it does look better yeah so have you heard this so we might be getting more Final Fantasy

games on the Xbox really there's rumors going around that they're finally going to just release everything so I might finally get to play Final Fantasy 7 the Remake you've played the original Last the yeah play yeah since I think cuz son you just keep paying them off to keep it an exclusive yeah stop it they won't I want to play it I'm not buying a PlayStation cuz I've tried that before and it doesn't work having a PlayStation brought a PlayStation yeah brought a PlayStation 3 just to play like the Uncharted games and stuff like that and I just couldn't do it getting a trophy and I just go feel like I'm cheating on on Microsoft I told you the VR is [ __ ] good I want to get um the steering wheel

stuff for it I just I don't know where to put it like it it would take up so much it does take up space yeah certain reason I haven't done that but the VR is is very good on it I don't know why Microsoft needs to make that for the Xbox it's good I want there to be VR good enough to convince me to buy VR hardware and it just hasn't come along V Gran Turismo on that on the VR like it's amazing like it's it's really and it's ideal because you're in a car so you just sat and you're looking around and it's it's so good it's very convincing like even like it's can be nighttime and you pop the headset on in the dark and then you're driving a convertible in the Sun and and

you it's hard to explain but your body react it's like oh yes nice and warm like like it doesn't make any sense but you have a weird reaction to it it's yeah it's very convincing uh put a pin in that I want to come back to uh convincing but okay it's part of another conversation so we we'll that NE ging is it he's trying to convince me of something and I'm not sure I mean I told him it was fine but so else we got you guys watched anything this week well yeah I mean we can talk about this now and I can lead into it um so I told you last week I was watching um the Lord of the Rings extended back to back um I do about an hour a night that's all I have in me and so it's taken me two weeks to watch six movies

because I've done Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit um and I'd only ever seen the first hobit I saw it at the cinema when it first came out and I hated it so I didn't bother seeing the rest funny thing happened while I was watching it this time I really really liked it now no you didn't it's totally different this edit is totally different to what I saw at the cinema the long edit so so this is the you know this is the 4 Hour for each episode version not the version right not only that it really really suffered by being 3D in 120 frames a second it looked [ __ ] garbage and just it looking like a normal movie again is a huge setup Hello

darling oh hello I don't have your pinky D oh I do sorry took it off you before didn't I you stole it off earlier hello hello bye okay um so look I'm also I was more open-minded this time too sure right because I I knew I didn't like it so bar was set very very low but also actually when you come watching straight from Lord return The Fellowship of the Ring is a great movie it's the best of those hands down these Hobbits are at least as good as Return of the King you know really okay yeah and it makes sense cuz everyone's like why is there all this extra stuff in there well because he hadn't written Lord of the Ring when he wrote this and

if he just made this like the book you'd be like well we know that [ __ ] legalis was living in merkwood before he went to the Council of so why isn't he there when they're there like it felt at the time like these things were shoe haunted but actually the the more you watch it you're like well actually no he's just rounded this off the book [ __ ] gandal just keeps walking off for no reason and there's no explanation where he goes right in this it's like they've already R Conn The Hobbit into saying that the Necromancer ended up being Sauron okay so that's where Gandalf is he's [ __ ] investigating this to make sure it's not s on which it is spoilers like I'm enjoying it I've still got a whole almost a whole movie to go CU I've done the first two and I'm in 20 minutes

into the third movie and the book storyline is already finished so I I not actually sure where this is going from here so you haven't seen my least favorite bit of of them that I remember remember yet I do recall my second least favorite bit is the [ __ ] barrels down the river but that was silly in the book as well and I was I was I had my teeth clenched while I was watching that and I was like okay it's not so bad it's not so bad have Neil gam over to watch it but I remember one complaints at the time was that they they put stuff in the movies that didn't pay off in the later ones so is that with the extended viewings is that AO story there's nothing that doesn't pay off so far yeah y y yeah I think I know what you mean cuz I remember thinking

like why did why they even bother with ragas like doesn't put but like no he's [ __ ] he's still in it he's still doing stuff with Gandalf like yeah I think they might have just it's a silly thing to say that they were too long and also that more makes them better but sure somehow it somehow it is anyway I'm into it well I will still not and I think that um what's the actor that [ __ ] plays Bilbo the Marty Freedman Freeman I think he does a great job I think he does a really good job like he's a little bit sarcastic and yeah but he's he's good and and I didn't realize I don't know why I wasn't aware of this when I first saw it but the scenes where he's talking to smog it's like Sherlock

right yeah so it's good speaking of Martins I watched the first episode of season 4 of only murders in the building oh still good oh still good still finished it is too okay gotta keep watching is what it is it's still good they make a joke about the fact that we've been very lucky with all the murders in this build yeah it's good it knows what it is yep and this is definitely the last season I believe I don't know someone's going to keep offering them money I've never known Steve Mar to turn down cold hard cash I mean it is they have a good team the three of them yeah very good yeah I got to finish the second season I didn't find it as good as the first and so I was skeptical and opted out but maybe I've got to go back and no enjoyed all of it I I'm Ling The Hobbit Now why not

why not give this a second chance but anyway I was going to say something about immersion right so oh yeah start of the third movie uh beyond the the The Boatman is with his family in his house they hear a noise outside they look out the window [ __ ] dragon flies over it looks great right mhm and they're they're they're terrified because they know what a dragon can do right as you would but I'm not terrified CU I know that Dragon can't hurt me right as the viewer and I'm suddenly realizing I'm like that this this is the limitation of cinema right I have to empathize with the characters I can't feel this for myself whereas if I was playing say Skyrim right I see a dragon I'm [ __ ]

terrified my heart rate goes up I know I'm going to [ __ ] at the very least [ __ ] ruin my [ __ ] Armor fighting this thing trying to think of when I saved last I'm going to have to go back like you know it's it's you know and I was thinking how could you introduce that level of um emotion into a film and I've come up with an idea tell me what you think of this before you watch a film you have to enter yourit C details right and any time the dragon or the bad whoever comes on screen they deduct $40 from your account so you hear the dragon coming and you're like no no no you you just see a shadow go past

like and then suddenly [ __ ] no no it's $40 like every time it's on you get deducted $40 you're going to start getting scared I can see that fear being there but if that's the case I'm not going to the movies did you did you this a good Games Inc no it was uh it was you know Griffin mroy from my brother my brother and me yeah it was him and and a friend of his that he would do they would basically come up with a video game idea kind of improv style I came up with one it was called cook for Cube and it was basically started out the concept was originally was like Master Chef the game and it's Gordon Ramsey and then at the start of the game you start cooking and then

Gordon Ramsay's at the start of the game he's like what's a really racist thing someone could tweet just just just for fun what's and you go I don't know say something really horrible and it's like okay and then as the game goes on you learn it's not Gordon Rams it's just Cube and it's like cook for Cube and it's like if you don't cook for me you're sending that tweet and and then so the there like one of the features of the game it actually tweets from and so one of the features of the game is it's like social perade death is the one of the features of the game fantastic there used to be this guy that used to have this blog that I used to read it was very funny he used to apply for jobs real jobs but with silly

application cover letters and then post them and if he got a response he would post the response as well but he once applied for a job at Nintendo and he goes you know I responding to your ad about game developer I've I've got a great plan of how we bring Mario into the real world basically you play as Mario after he's been married to Peach for like 15 years and he is just bored they just and he's like and most of the game is you just you're in bed you haven't had sex and you just have to press X on repeat to moderate your breathing so that she thinks you're asleep and doesn't try to talk to you and it went on and on and [Laughter] on did he get a response I can't

dearer you know yeah then I played a game where I played as a baby drowning in the bathtub what you've played that have i who's your Daddy what remains of Edith Finch there's a section oh I haven't I haven't played that oh mate have you played that Luke it is amazing it's amazing I enjoy walking simulators yeah I mean basically it's good story yeah I mean this is all just story it's just all character and story but Whimsical but like dark Whimsical like gone home was another one was all right yeah was yes isn't that still wakes the Deep sort of like that um not uh yes and no there's more interaction with characters like it's not just you finding story there are characters that you interact with but it is more that

walking and just going around little bit more action than just walking not aim still definitely worth a play all right there was also that one [ __ ] what was the name of it I think it's called the suicide of Rachel Foster where you play as a girl who find your best friend commits suicide and you find out she did it because your dad molested her and um that's right you're you just play as her [ __ ] live living a [ __ ] life aren't video games fun but I remember the first level you're yeah it's me Luigi why because he that I'm of me run Jeremy stars in suicide it's kind of like that it's kind

of like the the graveyard one cuz the first you're at your best friend's funeral and it's raining and you've got this umbrella and you're just trying to yours is colored and everyone else is black and you're just trying to push your way through the crowd to get to the grave and it's just like hard to get through like why am I why am I playing [Laughter] this uh all right let's talk about something can I ask you about something that might be fun luk have you played more of the Star Wars Outlaws game I have that doesn't sound good not good it's disappointing it's it's slow okay like it's more about like Star Wars you think and I'm a

Outlaw like I'm a Smuggler I think it's going to be like lots of firefights which there is but the game rewards you more for sneaking around and it's a Assassin Creed breaking in yeah but yeah I don't know I think it just missed the mark a little bit I think they have made an update I haven't played since I made the update we've made like the stealth missions a bit more forgiving but there are missions there that if anyone SP you just no go back for safe right yeah and I'm more it should be I should be running around just shooting people and stuff okay so all right bummer it's a shame I was going to try it but I'll wait surprised guys I mean yeah yeah I was sort of looking forward to it I was looking forward to you liking it and

then me signing based on that to get it but you can try it for 20 if you don't like it I'm not going to play it not wasting $20 I'll wait until it I wait until I can buy it for $20 I've got yeah I've even got the $200 version of it what did you get something good or just different clothes for no just some just some clothes and stuff which you don't use because CU she's naked in your game all the time no no cuz the clothes that they give you they don't have any powers or anything but you can buy clothes that give you stats so why would I use Cosmetics when I can use and yeah but I didn't pay $200 I'm just got Ubisoft class oh I see which so I think it's about $20 a month but I get the full edition of this I'll get the full edition of the

ultimate edition of Assassin's Creed when that comes out next month it pays for itself which Assassin's Creed comes out next month Shadows the Japanese one that's next month holy [ __ ] oh okay yep [ __ ] Star Wars look I'll just keep playing Tomb Raider until that comes out and I'll buy that got a fish Allen wake yeah I'm pretty sure it's next month double check next month or before the end of the year that's coming out stalker 2 I'm quite looking forward to playing that'll be on Game Pass so boring have that yes no sorry I was off game pass for a little while and then I I came I came crawling back I told you I was woken up early to play air hockey today it's getting late well Luke was working up to do this podcast um can I tell you a fact sorry it's

November that's okay it's September now can I tell you a fact this week that blue my [ __ ] mind please do M Luke you don't read right no no I can't read Matt Lil you read both to yourself and to a child am I right yes when you read to yourself you read silently in your mind and when you read to your child you read out loud right correct me too me too that's the that's the way to do it right sure until the Middle Ages reading in your head wasn't a thing okay right anything you see in ancient Rome ancient Greece where people are just read something didn't happen like that they always read out loud huh

reading in your head wasn't invented until the Middle Ages you don't want to know why there's a really specific reason for it too because that was when they decided to start putting gaps between the words oh all writing up until then had no gaps Greek ancient Greek ancient Latin all the Sumerian languages they just write so unless you're actually saying it it doesn't make any sense so if you see Latin on an ancient subscription like what am I trying to say inscription like in an old movie like Egyptian with hieroglyphs or something and there's there's gaps that's that's an anachronism hm there you go even they said like monks and St you you would they would read it

out loud to themselves like even if you buy You' be like that's interesting I so we I have a friend who you know there they say there are people who have no internal yeah monologue I have a friend who claims to have none and was very confused by the whole concept to be honest to the point that I I believed it and I would be interested to ask and I will ask if I remember when they read how does that work yeah what what voice reads to you yeah because yeah because and I visualize a lot when I read too which is part of what I enjoy about reading fiction is that i' I visualized it and a funny thing too I noticed this the other day even if I'm read so I'm reading one of the expanse books I'm slowly making way way through them I've seen the TV show

and so some of the charact I don't know why this is some of the characters look like the actors but not all of them I don't I don't know how my brain decides that it just happens yeah and even though there's a scene that's I've seen on the television when I read it my brain's reimagining it and I just I just noticed it and I was like that's interesting that why do I do that you talk about the the interior monologue but I've actually got two different ways I can read silently I can just look at the words and understand what they mean or I can pretend somebody's reading it to me but they're different if I want to read quickly I just look at the words and know what they I don't think I do the second one with the

people who say they don't have an interal monologue I just think they don't I've always just thought they don't understand what actually is and they're confusing it and I think asking about the reading question will well that's what the bamal Mind theory is Julian Jane's bamal mind Theory um is that uh up until a certain point in human development which is they later than you think humans didn't know the the voice in their head was just their own thoughts and that's why ancient people just used to think gods were talking to them and Spirits were talking to them huh right okay interesting when it's no you were just talking to yourself thinking

things mhm I've read a great book this week but I realized too that when I read and this wasn't a book I'd seen the film of I I read have you ever read um we have always lived in the castle by Shirley Jackson I've heard of it she's the author of House on Haunted Hill the original she wrote a bunch books horror books in the 60s which she long you I think Jenna might have read we have always lived it's excellent it's very good it's just basically these I think she mentioned it two sisters live in this old decrepit house and you know that something bad has happened and also will happen but you don't know what it is until you read it but I I worked out that I see the entire thing from one angle so like sometimes they're in a kitchen sometimes they're in the garden sometimes they're

go to the front door but it's like I'm watching an a watching a play with different sets next to one another I don't know how my brain decided it was going to do that yeah it's funny yeah how does your brain decide these things and I find sometimes a book like um the the city in the city is a good example where I takes me a while for me my brain to settle in to the strangeness of it mm M and then once it's once my brain's decided this is how the world works you know it's hard to explain but you know the the that that story is set in a very strange yes it's high concept it's very hard to actually yeah you know kind of how how would that even work it wouldn't yeah yeah anytime people say what's it about I go oh [ __ ] me that's what I'm

saying I'm struggling as we speak read it yeah yeah concept there's a that and another one that comes to mind is I think I've mentioned it on the podcast before is um only forward by Michael Marshall Smith is a book that's written and I again it's hard for me to describe accurately and it takes a little while for your brain to settle into how it's going to get wrap itself around the way the world works yeah but then once you're in it you're in it and it's like it all all starts to make sense but it's just funny how like the way I visualize the city and the city in my head I wonder if that's the same way you did probably not yeah do your favorite and do not watch the the TV show they they made it yeah there's no way you can um with

things like City in the city and actually I did it with the I read the book the ship of thesis that oh yeah is the S the JJ Abrams yeah I gave up on all the footnotes but I read the actual book and I really liked it but because it's again High concept I start reading it and then I actually find it helps to go online and read a synopsis um and then start reading the book again because I'm like okay it like grounds me you know and I think I did that for City in the city too cuz I think I was legitimately confused by the conceit you know sure yeah yeah yeah so I try to explain the city and the city is about there's two cities they're in the same geographic location but they're two

separate cities and if you're a citizen or if you're in one city you're not allowed to look at or notice or interact with people in the other city it's it's illegal unless you go through customs yeah and like and the story follows a detective trying to solve a crime of a body that was murdered in one city but dumped in another if that's even possible yeah and so and it's just yeah like I said it just takes your brain a little bit to wrap your head around but then once I was into it it was fine yeah did you finish did you read the whole book yeah I did I I found it I found the ending was got a little bit disappointing but I did really enjoy it overall but the I didn't quite I didn't quite it wasn't as satisfying as I was

hoping for yeah right right I I found it quite satisfying I think I just was all in so I think yeah oh you don't care like the whole there was a third City that's why they couldn't find the killer there was a third City yeah and some of it just fell apart a bit like it lost it kind of lost the feel of the the first three how can there even be two there might as well be a third and that's why you couldn't see him yeah it lost it a bit at the end for me that doesn't make any sense very good it's worth doesn't make any sense I'll say this though so I bought his book with Keanu I'm looking at it up there now oh yeah I'm not hooked I'm not hooked I I'll I've I've stopped I'll go to something else and I'll come back when

I'm bored and I'll try again I've got another China mville One called the Kraken yeah I haven't read it yet but I got it read that from Kindle yeah when I read I didn't I read uh last days of New Paris first because and this is the only reason I heard about it was that I heard it was Robert cel's favorite book when he was making disco elisium so I read that and I was like yes this is [ __ ] nuts what else has this guy read read City in the city census taker um I read about four of them in a row uh veryy creative writing yeah yeah check out only forward if you've never read it it's good I've got it bookmarked right here I can get it for $7 from um I think you like Brotherhood

books yeah I I haven't read it and when you said it I was like okay it's won the Philip K dick award it's a good book yeah it's got a good cover it's got a l comfortable very quotable right it's got a lot of my Kindle copy of it it's got a lot of highlights in it where that's a that's a good line which Kindle do you have you just got I have I have an older paper white that I carry around with me because I don't care and I have one that's the 6 in paper white next to my bed which is like a cuz I I have the paper white this one right yeah yeah so I carry one of those around with me and I've got another one it's a newer one that I don't want to wreck yeah the one that I carry around I I A bug flew on the screen at one point and I went to whack it and it's got like

a a bright spot this has a bright spot has a bright SP they're so easy to damage that's it's irritated me so much and I've always thought about buying another one replacing it except that I actually find this quite frustrating to use anyway it's it's not very responsive I just the newer ones better they're not yeah like wor worse I would argue for [ __ ] off I would argue the new one is is slower because they've put too much [ __ ] on it yeah okay yeah not quite there not quite there yeah yeah I was when I got the new one I was like oh the screen's nice and big and then I was like why is it taking so long to turn on why is it it's just yeah I also almost got talked into buying one of those what's it called sketch sketch sketch oh I think I say the books everyone's talking about oh I did look

at that I did look at books Palmer so looks pretty good it does look pretty good um TCL have a smartphone that you can switch to paper white um huh or just you know screen looking which I also thought about the boooks I was like I don't know you're supposed to pronounce it books or books books is funnier I'm going to say boots yeah I was about to say I never considered that but I'm going to only say boooks now the boooks Palmer um looks great because it's phone size say oh I can carry it with me or if I'm just out and about I could just read on my phone yeah yeah I know but you can't buy on the Kindle app but then again these I don't think the books pmer you can actually have Kindle anyway right

yes look just because when I when I live in sydne catch and train I read two three books a week like reading all a Time catch public transport okay two no I mean I believe you I'm just saying that's a lot of books that's what I used to do loved it but yeah move the camera there's there's public transport but it's horrible so you just drive to work and I don't I can't stop to read my brain doesn't let me I need like screens going at me con I have time for screen for reading I'm actually pretty good at compartmentalizing it yeah see I I like books physical books I do I mean I've got tons of them behind me but it's so inconvenient now yeah it is that like like the Kindle's just yeah with me if I have my bag it's with me if it's not then I use my phone
