we have on good authority that Luke is currently on his way to a location where he can potentially join the podcast however he's not here right now this must be the earliest we've ever mentioned a missing co-host oh I I don't think we could do it any earlier Fair unless we didn't unless we just didn't record it welcome to multiple nerdgasm with your hosts Matt Luke and Dan multiple nerdgasm your guide to All Things nerdy yeah usually do yeah he's been uh he's been in we could talk about he's been in hospital he's probably gonna talk very open about yeah but if you
want to know more details have a listen either I don't know at what point he's going to join in he said maybe after party he'll show up if you don't know what the after party is go to patreon.com multiple nerdgasm more about that later all I know is that I dropped in on him yesterday and you know when you're you're getting some kind of infusion they basically hang a bag on an IV with a with a drip into you he had that but whatever they were giving him was literally locked away so so could drink massively controlled substance yeah yeah I thought going to say it was Mountain Dew I did take him a little care package of um blue v and um nerds so cuz he yeah he needs sugar he needs that stuff yeah I didn't want him to um go into withdrawal yeah totally what do You'
noticed that I was there no no no if he went into withdrawal because he's he's receiving some some quite potent true infusions from what I I can you be in withdrawal from something if you're overdosing on something else that's I don't know the science behind this intentionally overdosing intentionally is that how you would describe I guess we ask him how his doctor described it to him and he's going to say I wasn't paying attention yeah yeah no he wouldn't have been no so we can carry on uh without him in the meantime got quite a bit of stuff this week yeah lot's happened lot's happened in the tech world this week yeah do you want to talk about Apple yeah let's talk about Apple we've got uh WWDC we got some quite a lot actually already we got
new Mac Pro with the M1 M well Sor the M2 Chip Mac Pro looks sexy as [ __ ] I'll never be able to afford one but it's been a while since I've actually wanted a Mac sitting on my desk and I want this one this one's beautiful the thing about this one is right so I have a Mac Studio here that I'm using sure now right and basically this new Mac Pro is the same well it's got the M2 in it mine's got the M1 so it's like one of the new Mac Studios the only difference really is that it's got PCI slots and I don't know that the p slots are worth the what $4,000 extra I would have to pay that's right just to get this in that case you know true you could probably 3D print a case for your Mac Studio and just have it sitting inside there it in there I'll
just buy like yeah exactly I wait till somebody one of the because it's the same case that the Intel Mac Pros are in I'll wait till somebody trashes Theirs to get one of these buy the case and just slot this inside oh does this already exist see I've been so out of the loop I wasn't even paying attention to this so the Intel Mac Pros already have this like titanium think it's the same case yeah I'm pretty sure it's the same case yeah that's why they didn't make such a fuss about the case itself because I was surprised okay well that makes sense because I was like oh that thing is beautiful but there you go it already exists so that's why they didn't bother mentioning it so we had that we had there 15-inch MacBook Air now which is quite you know it's a very nice
laptop I think the MacBook a is used to not really be able to run the operating system that it held but that long l g to those days yeah yeah it's got the same again it's the same processor in it yeah so it's it's like they're insanely powerful and that 15inch MacBook a is probably the laptop most people should get if you want a Mac yeah that's a pretty sick laptop so we got that we got you know this new iOS and yeah iOS 17 is going to block dickpics I saw I saw that this was in here and okay so this is I guess based on some tech that they announced a while back and then back backed out of cuz people got upset about it cuz it was there was a period where they're talking
about how your phone was going to be able to tell if you had pix kids on there and it was going to my phone nothing but pcks of kids on there I think you I was I was trying to be uh a little but how's my phone gonna know well apparently that's that's the thing is they were saying oh yeah no it won't know for sure what it's going to do is there's going to be a database of hash you know hashes which is you know an image at its raw data level the data hashes of known Kitty porn images right and what it's going to do is if a if you have a photo on your phone that looks like it might be one of those it what it was going to do was just flick a little flag somewhere and if you get too many of those flags flicked they weren't going to they weren't going to intervene
they wer look at your stuff or anything like that but they were going to notify somebody somewhere that you've got a few Flags flipp maybe someone need to pop around your house and have a look at your phone I love the fact that the AI for this though is somebody has to show a whole bunch of kitty existing Kitty porn and go to the AI to say this is not okay well this is that's one of the things apparently the Facebook content people had to do and then there was that whole big fuss about how they weren't being paid very much to to have to go through that kind of [ __ ] my mate used to work for Google back in the early or mid 2000s and that was his job to just look at porn and just flag anything where it looked like the participants might be
underage [ __ ] hell I mean I guess what a job straight out of un right because you can you can upload stuff to there right isn't so I guess they got to do that too yeah yeah someone's got to do it but this looks a little different because there was another thing that they were talking about where if if you were a if you had a phone and it said you were underage I I don't know what the cut off was but if it was it was a kid's phone and you got sent an image he was kind of going to use AI to tell if that image was should not be looking this yeah there's a lot skin on this photo you could set your kid's phone to notify you if that happens I think and people again were like I don't know about that a yeah as a parent I'm like
yep that's fine do that yes let me can I can understand why scenario generally people find that morally ambiguous yeah yeah and then people saying like there's there's a lot of room for abuse of that feature yeah to yeah so so they backed that up and so this looks like sort of like that right I don't think this blocks that it will just it will just kind of do what Reddit does if you've got your not safe for work filter on it'll blur it and say do you really want to see this this might be something new yeah so this is like a more step back kind of casual version of that where you can say on my phone if you think it's a dick just blur it so I don't have to look at it yeah yeah Dave could have used this a few years ago when our friends I don't really get sent dicks
but I might put this on anyway just so I don't have to ever see them you know I only want to see my own dick yeah that's right and only from certain angles but of course we digress cuz that's not the this is not the biggest apple news the dickpic thing is not the biggest apple news of the week no this there is one funny thing about this though this says optin bluring can be applied to sensitive images sent in messages okay makes sense someone might text you a dick air drop someone might try and airdrop you a dick contact posters right this is a new feature that they they just put in where you can wave your phone near someone else's phone and it'll add your phone number and a
picture of you picture of your dick who the [ __ ] is walk around doing that I mean I guess it might if you are the kind of person who wants to walk around forcing your contact details into women's phones you are also the kind of person that has your profile picture as just a picture of your dick being out at an event or something and they go oh you want to swap details yeah sure wave and then just and I'm like yeah you like that yeah you're like sorry that don't usually swap these with guys I didn't expect to just meet someone who could be a friend yeah just that little that feature there made me laugh but yes that's not the big news the bigger the technology in the world gets the the more I just want to live in a cabin with with
nothing nothing but a VR headset oh well look I'm excited about the direction this is going but I don't want this I might consider version two of this yeah this thing looks clunky as hell so we're talking about Apple Vision Pro if you haven't seen it I mean it's unlikely you've probably seen this by now everyone talking about it yeah you you've seen this it's the headset that Apple's making and yes I agree I got very excited by the videos and then afterwards I was looking at it and I was thinking well I've got to have that thing in my pocket with a cable and yeah you know the battery only lasts two hours and it this feels like now is not the time to buy one yeah I mean and they're talking about oh you can have
teams conferences and things and it's like yeah but will will everyone just look like a giant fly with these big goggles on like well like yeah that's the thing they didn't show that they didn't show the reverse angle in exactly they they showed the person with the headset on sitting there seeing everybody's little faces Flo in space having this great Mee what do you look like what are they seeing yeah exactly yeah because it's on your face yeah correct see you yeah yeah it's a bit weird they just didn't show it yeah yeah look when they do a a version of this that looks just like a pair of glasses or if it's a an augmented screen you can get put on your own glasses maybe then maybe the thing the the killer thing for me right the thing when they showed this
I was like I [ __ ] want that is where you can be on a plane pop this on pop your airpods in turn on noise cancellation turn that little dial and suddenly I'm sat on the edge of a [ __ ] cliff yeah with a giant movie screen in front of me just watching a movie and yeah not on a plane that would be amazing yeah yeah exactly I'm no longer on a plane I'm they should call that app not on a plane yeah that's that's sick yeah yeah for sure and I like this is essentially Minority Report I mean not the actual precog [ __ ] but just your hands yeah that's right it's screens in the air and you just brush them around like now I can't walk up to you and look at the screens you're looking at so that's it's one step removed from that but it you would feel
like that if you were the one controlling this but the thing about this and someone said this because the um a couple of podcasters were at the event and you couldn't uh touch any of this stuff but you could see the headset and you could talk to the Apple employees and the thing about it is when you watch all the videos the movements are very um not [ __ ] I guess is way you know like in Minority Report you know he's waving his arms around and all that kind of stuff but in reality that's exhausting oh yeah yeah yeah for sure so the way this works is you look at stuff and and it literally just tracks what your eyes looking at and then when your eye when you're looking at the thing you want to pick you just tap your fingers together you give it a little you give
it a little finger tap and it goes y okay and it goes in interesting that's like pretty amazing yeah that that is amazing if it works that's that's the other thing too I'm skeptical about how smooth this will work I mean maybe no but what's exciting about it is that this exists like imagine this 20 years from now contact lenses that everyone's got on yes that's that's the yeah the possibilities are what's exciting yeah and the other thing that's seems stupid about it and I'm like there must be more to this is that yes it's got a battery pack there's no battery at all in the headset because they said it's too heavy fair enough so you've got to it's connected and it's got a MAG safe thing up here so it connects here with a magnet but and then somebody apparently
confirmed with apple if you if that battery goes flat you're thinking oh I could swap out another one yeah but there's no grace period you disconnect that it turns off yeah and is it true if you die inside Apple Vision Pro you die in real life is that true yeah no I just thought couldn't they put like a little battery like 10 seconds to swap another one in or something like seems like a weird oversight yeah version two of this is going to be great yeah yeah I mean when people like you just described sitting there watching a a movie in in like an augmented reality space Bas right but imagine that's still a 2d plane that you're watching a movie imagine when they start creating content specifically for this you'll be sitting in the movie yeah well they Bob Iger was
on stage at the the keynote and he said they're already working with apple on new types of content yes like [ __ ] amazing yeah yeah oh the thing like when you when you look at this listeners it looks like it's transparent and you and it just kind of Pops fingers in front eyes it's not transparent that's a screen yes that's true it's a it's a screen that's showing your eyes on the outside you're not seeing through it you're it's the same as a you know like current VR headset but it's it's fancier than that obviously but the thing is in all the all the um videos they show people walking around and doing stuff pop up and they're looking at stuff like that but again it's not transparent so what you're seeing you're walking around is a video of it filming out and it's
real it's really what's there but it's a display of what's there on a screen yes I don't know how that's actually gonna yeah that's interesting and feel you know is it because it's not going to be full it's not like when I look around now and I can just see everything in my vision is per like you know I've got Vision that's not it's not going to be like no it'll it'll be a 2d representation a screen that moves with your eyes you're watching a videoas you're looking at yeah so I feel like it's like the invisible car in that dumb James Bond movie that's just got tiny cameras projecting what's on the other side of the car yes yeah yeah it's going to be weird I think weirder than they make it seem in the videos it's got to be unless it's not Cas all right I mean
done I'd be very interested to pop one of these on I'll admit oh yeah and and and just see how this is so they'll we have them in Apple Stores apparently oh yeah the other thing to people are curious about is because it seems like you can't wear glass with them so when you go into the App Store apparently the way that you're going to want to buy one of these is to go into the store get fitted because it's got custom seals and custom connectors and all that kind of [ __ ] and custom lenses wow prescription they take your glasses they shine a little light through and it tells them which one to yeah they've got some device to do that I was like that's pretty sick that is great because actually my like I wear glasses for up close so I would have to have these
augmented for you might not think that you would but it's literally a screen like right in front you're going to need them yeah yeah it's interesting it's interesting times and also they um it's augmented reality but it's not what people usually think augmented reality is like a lot of people when you say augmented reality the thing is I'm going to walk around and then when I look at you it's going to pop up and say Daniel Miller yeah yeah yeah multiple nerg gasm like and then like like the Terminator like the Terminator yeah yeah this is not like that at all it's like yeah more yet yeah it's pretty cool that you can apparently look at your laptop and then the display of your laptop just kind of flies up into the air above it and then you're just
looking at what's on your laptop in there in space yeah that's right yeah like I I really got to try it to know if it's actually that good it's pretty exciting though oh yeah the other thing some eagle-eyed uh viewers on the internet have spotted that in videos and uh photos they show uh they've got a USB dongle of some sort hooked up to this thing that they have not mentioned what that is so it's just like yeah be interesting so maybe there's more going on you know I talked about you know it getting unplugged or whatever maybe there's more possibility there than we know about yet y if you can hook a USB cable up to it kind of thing yeah sorry my my fans going nuts I'm just
GNA pop a book under here or something [Music] sorry listeners some slight technical difficulties there that you will not have experienced no uh if you wondering if this conversation doesn't happen to flow quite as fluidly as we always do that's why um did you end up getting your deposit back for your cyber truck yeah I did yeah yeah and I'm yeah I'm not regretting that uh particularly after this week when some leaked report from Tesla has shown that it's got a lot of problems that's why they haven't made it yet because yeah I mean man honestly if the prices of Teslas haven't come way way down I'll be
surprised I think I mean they are they were cheap and then I think they went back up again but they they're [ __ ] expensive here you're basically looking at 100 grand for your base model Australia yeah okay I think you get a model 3 for about 40 Grand here yeah mind you 40 Grand American is I mean are you two to one at the moment it's you know yeah well and see now the Cyber truck being delayed so much and then again this report saying that it's because it's it just uh was it had problems with braking handling noise and it leaked leaking yeah that's not good no uh and already Ford and Chevy are produc are in production on their electric trucks like the F-150 Lightning
looks pretty sick so yeah I am man look I'm not in a hurry to go electric although there are incentives to go electric now um coming out here uh if I was going to go electric I'd go the poar too it's great yeah they look like spaceships from the and that's Jam yep yeah that's kind of like I mean the Cyber truck had that sort of vibe where it was very rety looking but I mean I prefer one that doesn't leak it doesn't leak yeah yeah the PO Stars don't leak as far as I know yeah yeah so I mean over here they've given pretty aggressive deadlines for not selling any new gas powered cars anyway right so oh yeah sure yeah eventually I don't know exactly when Rhode Island said but um yeah pretty pretty aggressive on that now so mhm mhm
part of agenda 2030 I think oh yeah well we could talk about that if you want I don't have anything else to say I'm all for it know anything about it yeah well all right rip cyber truck you you may we may never even see you yeah it's not looking good yeah it's a shame could have been really cool yeah I don't know Elon I mean the man was interesting at one point and now I find him whatever the opposite of interesting uninteresting yeah it's so an like I know I genuinely used to think he was pretty cool and now I'm like oh I don't anymore no I'll go out of my way not to hear him talk now yeah I know it's almost like like someone points out do you know how many how many years in a row he said full self-driving probably be in the next six months and it's like
he's been saying that since 2013 and it's like yeah you're right I just didn't notice at the time for some reason yeah he just always got me hyped up we drank the Kool-Aid yeah yeah I guess there were probably people out there who I know there are people out there I [ __ ] told you yeah yeah yeah it's like Steve Jobs with his reality Distortion field yes yeah that's right yeah I mean there were always people going you know Steve Jobs isn't really a tech guy he's a marketing guy that's true though like I mean to a degree he he he wasn't complete idiot but he was yeah yeah if you hear the stories inside actually how the Macintosh got made the very first Macintosh it was despite Steve Jobs yes that's right and if Steve Jobs hadn't met was there would be no
apple right and because jobs insisted uh it used the stupid disc drives from the Lisa that were garbage and he only wanted to to have I forget exactly how much a useless amount of ram that the very first gen of Mac had but the engineers were smart enough to to know we're gonna need to put more RAM in this thing let's make it so that it's really easy to do that yeah because people are gonna want that yeah ah Apple yeah uh Reddit this week oh yeah not this week I guess this this this last month or so have just been aggressively stupid in my opinion yeah they really seem to be trying their absolute hardest to run this company into the ground so odd so the latest
thing there's a Reddit app on iOS called Apollo which is very good I did used to use it for a while but I just I just stopped because I don't use Reddit enough to justify paying for an app was really the reason I was like I can just see the ads on them the their app uh and I guess that's what they want because they've done a Twitter and they said well what they did was I guess a couple of months ago they emailed all the developers of third party apps including this guy Christian who makes Apollo and said we're going to start charging for API access mhm and was like fair enough you know that's fair you know we're using it for free makes sense and they said you know we'll communicate with you there'll be a you know work together to get it all sorted out that kind of thing
and everything seemed like it was all right and then uh the other last week I think they said here's the pricing and he did the math and he realized I'm GNA have to pay these guys $20 million a month yeah and then he he said um that's not happening that's not gonna happen and they're like oh that's a shame [ __ ] you [ __ ] you basically so wow so he's he's now he's just had to come out and say well I get June because it starts first of July to do this he said I'm got to shut the gap down apps are going to stop working on the first of first of July sorry it's not possible and not only that I'll link to the the Reddit post that he put up about it um it's quite interesting because he because he's in Canada and he had a feeling things were
going to go a bit sideways he recorded the phone calls because he had phone calls with even I think the the the guy who runs Reddit even like he had some he recorded all the calls John Reddit yeah John Reddit and then that Reddit came out and said that he he was threatening them to like and and and all this kind of stuff and he he said well here's the phone call and I know what he's referring to yeah you tell me what you think he misheard me and then apologized for for thinking that it was a right gu that's the only thing I can think he's talking about so anyway it's just it just Reddit just looks like [ __ ] in this yeah that's a shame because I like Reddit for for things yeah it's useful well not I guess reddit's not useful the people on Reddit are useful
and to be clear not all of them no no a certain amount of curation is required to uh but like there are there are subreddits that I get a lot of value from absolutely yeah like once you find a good subreddit like that's a that could be a really I'm on the blue subred every day to just hear Americans go do they really say dollar bucks in Australia and you're like yep uhhuh yeah absolutely can I can I air what do you guys pay with what you pay with doll dues yeah that's right um my wife works for prime Amazon Prime and they they advertise on Reddit um and I don't mind ads on Reddit so long as they look like ads what I don't like is when they try to disguise himself as just posts yes and I really have a problem with that because it
makes me concentrate on it way more than I want to I should have the ability to ignore if I want yeah exactly lately for some reason I don't know if it's just me listeners if you get this let let me know I don't know if anybody listeners even use Reddit I get religious posts religious advertisements I get literally get posts about I forget the name it's it links to a certain subreddit and it's just all about how like Jesus loved you do you love him wow I'm like really vote wow it's just so I'm like what do you show me that for is it and I wonder if is it because because I don't think I'm in the the the atheist subreddit on Reddit is quite famous because it's got a bunch of knobs in it so I'm not I'm as far as I'm aware I'm I'm not in that sub to that because
they they annoy me as well yeah only thing more self-righteous than religious people are atheists like yeah if you're newly like freed of religion I can't no thanks yeah exactly like I get it but like nah yeah it's it's not as interesting I know I agree with you but simmer down a bit I know that you're very excited yeah especially if you live in a country like America where it's just taken for granted that there is a Jesus and that you know he carries you on the beach Etc it's like a it's like a conspiracy theory of sorts and so I I get it but but they are tedious yes like and then and also people who go out and just try and start fights with just don't do that yeah not into that stuff yeah you do you right that's fine so anyway I wondered if it was
because of that but it's like no I don't think I'm in any of those because like annoy me so that's quite funny actually maybe I wonder if that's I was going to say I wonder if that's because you've been looking at like debunk conspiracy theory type stuff but thises this I have been would we talk about that be the opposite of that you would be more likely to get yeah but we can we can lean into that if you if you'd like I know you've got some uh some followup yeah so I I talked last week about how I was trying to find stuff on the pyramids and whatnot and I kept getting you know conspir you know aent aliens and that kind of thing and you mentioned grahe Hancock and I do know of grahe Han because he had that um gockley tee do on Netflix that yeah is he reckons it's a
100,000 years old and it was built by and the the lava tubes inside of it are actually secret Chambers not lava tubes which would make more sense yeah yeah yeah yeah that's right the thing the thing that the thing that he gets wrong that they don't that don't don't give anything abroad because there's one where he's in Indonesia and he's like these shapes of rocks could not possibly be man not manmade they can't can't possibly be naturally occurring and then you have all these geologists go no that's exactly how volcanic rock naturally occurs like it does it does form geometric shapes yeah well so so now I guess because I was kind of trying to get that kind of you know I said I looked up debunk specifically to try and find out yeah like hang on a minute you
can't just look up facts now you have to look up antifa debunk yeah yeah yeah yeah so and so now I guess YouTube knows oh you want that stuff so now it's been sh yeah a bunch of and I've actually found some really good channels there's a guy Milo minman I think his channel is he's like a he's he's in his early 20s he's an archaeologist and he he he's does some interesting stuff and he's got one on Graham Hancock that I watched a bit of and that was quite good um but now I get tons and tons of particularly anti- Graham hanock because I think he's got a bunch of Netflix specials unfortunately yeah yeah he's got a new one but it's it's not his first there's he's been writing books since the 80s and I thought there was an interview with a a guy who's uh listeners for
those of you who don't know this is the guy who wants to convince you Atlantis is real yeah his whole his whole shtick and like I can't tell if he's serious or if it's a if it's grift if it's a grift then he is like committed to it but then there's stuff like there's a guy it was an interview I think the guy's like a I don't know if he's a geologist or if he's like a or archaeologist or a bit of both some some legit science a scientist yeah yeah who was intervie first he was approached asked if he would be interviewed for a show didn't know it was grahe hanok because he knows who he is agreed to do it got there Graham Hancock interviewed him but they only filmed this guy they didn't film right
Graham Hancock and they he Graham hanock asked him questions and he answered them then they shuffled him off and later filmed Graham Hancock's bit and He adjusted adjusted the questions yeah and so the guy was like and he said it was annoying because he said he was really nice he was really Charming he was a really cool guy and he left thinking maybe I was wrong about him and then he walk to doco and he was like [ __ ] you wow yeah yeah wow oh man because it wouldn't take much to just skew that that's funny I remember do you remember daa Brahma from home and away or yeah I played with him once at so I've never met him right but he had this afternoon talk show at one
point when once he left whatever sitcom he was on um so Home Away originally home away I think yeah but he had this afternoon kind of talk show where he interviewed he went around interviewing people but I got stopped on the street once just by this woman with a clipboard and she goes oh can I ask you a couple of questions for a show I'm I'm like yeah sure answered her questions suddenly I'm getting interviewed by daa BR like they've edited to look like he was there asking me questions but I've never met him yeah just met a producer that's so funny yeah it's kind of dodgy how they do that I mean not kind of dodgy it's literally dodgy yeah it's fraud but yeah but at least at least this they just refilmed him asking the same questions she asked he wasn't ske
the questions to say uh to make me sound like I was agreeing with him on anything that was the night the night that I it was at pioner tabn he was there he was there and um what's her name Delta goodam was there oh and we used to tell Dave Delta goodam was places to try and get him to come out yeah yeah it's just because he had a crush on her [ __ ] loved her and then that night she was there and he didn't believe me was the boy who cried Del that's marvelous yeah I met her once she came into this into the HMV I was working I've heard this story it's not a good story no I mean you you come out of it all right I think right it's your co-workers that a just let's not even go there yeah fair enough um so on on the subject of
Netflix we're getting booted from Jenna's parents Netflix right yeah as expected due to the password thing and we speculated that this might go sideways for Netflix that people might just get the shits apparently that's not the case and they've had a big flood of subscribers people want their Netflix so we'll see how it goes long term but it apparently maybe it's working look I'll say this about Netflix I think Netflix is the most intuitive and solid interface out of all the streaming platforms mhm and it has I have one complaint and I'll get to it later I've got a few complaints but okay I've got complaints about all of them but it's the least [ __ ] out of all of them is kind of what I'm saying and it
has enough content and I have enough of a desire to not want to change between platforms mhm I'm talking almost exclusively kids content here too because I don't watch anything now it's all my daughter you watch bluee but yeah if she but here's the thing I will go to ivie for Bluey and I will go nowhere else I will not go to Disney plus unless I really have to because it is garbage that platform is garbage sure I would rather just stay on Netflix because it's easier if I had to delete all but one it' be Netflix that I'd keep you know just because it's the least [ __ ] out of all of them I have my pet peeves with video streaming apps right so I use an Apple TV and I really like my Apple TV it work iPhone it works very well I know not everybody's into Apple I've got
Apple everything and it works really well except Netflix intentionally doesn't do any of that and they they don't no Netflix Stuff shows up in the in the native search on Apple TV normally on Apple TV if I go to just go to the home screen I go search I can search for a something TV show and it will tell me if it's in any of the apps that I have except Netflix it does not and you can just play like it'll it'll just show up like a normal search result and you can just play it straight away no that one episode of it it'll show up in my com in my whats up next on my home Little T everything that I really like the interface Netflix intentionally used to work with that and then they were like [ __ ] you Apple for some reason over like the 30% I assume some nonsense so
they exclude everything from that so now what I have to do is search if it's not there I go I'll open Netflix search in there the other thing that shits me I don't think Netflix does this oh maybe Netflix does but their players all right when a streaming service comes out and they go I know that Apple provides a very good video player because they know how to make those we'll Implement our own don't [ __ ] do that right because yours is not gonna work properly and it's gonna piss me off be very good yeah like I don't want to pause a movie go to get a drink or something come back hit play and then suddenly I'm like 30 minutes later in the thing or it's like skip back or it's like crashed or just use the stuff that they give you please that's why I I hate so Netflix is my
default I'll go to IV view for Bluey and I if I just switch to the iew app it'll just bring up Bluey because that's where I left off it knows I've got I've got my own problems with it because it it auto plays from the most recent episode not the least most recent which means you end up watching the same ones over and over okay okay sure which I don't like but if you go to Disney you've got to go to the login every time I me you don't have to type in your password but it goes to the home screen every time and then you've got to scroll to whatever you want or search for whatever you want it it doesn't help you it doesn't hold your hand and take you where it knows you want to go so on the Apple TV Disney plus will just say do you want to watch on the home screen there'll be a TI that
says do you want to watch the next blue or whatever although that's useless now because we've literally watched all of them so it doesn't know yeah it doesn't know what what to do yeah yeah yeah there was this one and I don't know why it was doing this but you know you know how on Netflix and others probably do this too but I've only noticed on Netflix just before it gets to the credits it'll bring up your your little prompt to go to the next episode and you can kind of skip to it early yep sometimes on Netflix that'll come up halfway through a program so there's one particular thing that I'm talking about so there's this show it's the pink Fong Dance Workout right again I'm talking about content is it's baby shark make so Dance Workout is there's kids that mime along and
dance choreograph dances to a dozen or so pink fun songs right if you go to the menu uh each episode is 20 minutes long right if you click on one individual episode The playhead along the bottom will be 10 minutes long half when you approach that 10 minutes it'll come up skip credits if you click no it'll play 10 more minutes if you don't it'll skip to the next episode after half the show only has played is that some thing where it's like it's trying to give you an out as a parent yeah maybe but I need it to [ __ ] stay on no I need it to stay on yeah pink Fong it's such a mixed bag of content oh
yeah because I find I know I I used to say never baby shark never baby shar's not so bad I'll be honest yeah it's not actually not that bad because lra loves doing the dance kind stuff I'm like yeah I it yeah whatever some of their stuff I'm like oh yeah what is this [ __ ] yeah yeah yeah there's one on the dance K Dance Workout because sometimes it's just an adult in the dance as well which is just odd right they just don't ever need to be there but there's this one about washing hair and like they're not nude or anything so like don't freak out but like they're in the shower washing their hair and stuff and it's a cartoon shower but it's two little kids and an adult and it's like get him out of there don't have him in this one don't have him in the one where the little kids are
in the shower sure yeah there's there's one uh she wanted up on today because she watched baby shark and then this the next one that came on was um it's the same basically the same song as baby shark in like a different key but it's an elephant and the lyrics are elephant Hakuna Matata except that would be copyright infringement yeah so it's elephant like and it's like what is this [ __ ] yeah yeah yeah I haven't seen that I have seen baby TT T to T-Rex I've seen that one and I've seen monkey B but I've seen monkey B but and then I'm like that's that's stupid and then I remind myself baby shark is also stupid it's all stupid yeah it's just that I've heard it
so many times that it it's just what it is now there's one that annoys me and it shouldn't annoy me right and I but I I there's ones about animals right and there's just a whole one about animals and I I like it learning about animals I like it watching animals and animals are good for kids because they get excited when they see an elephant they go elephant you know they like that but clearly they've just had Wikipedia open and they're just putting in facts about animals from wikip but there's this one about a skunk it's not even about a skunk each verse is about a different there's but one vers about a skunk and how he farts and it's like no that's not why skunks smell it's not cuz they just flatulent like that's just not a fact that's just not true
just it's a defensive mechanism if we going to write about a just go write it properly like teach them facts yeah it'll spray you if you piss it off yeah that's that's right yeah it is a extremely successful evolutionary defense mechanism they [ __ ] stink do they yeah uh unfortunately most of the time when I smell skunk it's because one's been hit on the highway right but that smell is like yeah and it's it's like oh God it's not on my car is it because that's going to smell for months yeah right yeah it's really bad no thankfully I never have such an American problem to have mhm yeah I was going to ask you I've been on the beach family of skunks come along oh really see that sounds cute unless you have no it was but you just don't get too close
cuz the M fart on you I thought you start have you put chains on your tires is that a thing you have to do so I may need to get some for Vermont because the um the the atlas we have is not four-wheel drive and it had some trouble on some roads last time we were up there it's not I mean it's not a huge deal it might be worth getting some just in case interesting because that's un American thing too but I uh people literally change their tires you get like the ones that are on there are all season but you can get winter ones or you can get just chains that fit over regular the chains are more yeah chains are more like that an old fashioned practical because you can just no no no no no you can get them it's
just the the the state that you're in will have a law around probably what time period you can use like you couldn't just like use them drive down the street middle of summer te up the roads homo just rips up the road take them off yeah yeah yeah I think within the months of whatever you're allowed to use them okay yeah because I'm reading a book I just finished reading a book said in Colorado uh and everyone who drives is talking about chains on their tires and I'm like oh no I I probably will get some for the just in case yeah we don't have to lean into it but I'll just I'll just quickly mention that the book that I've just read I I don't know how I've never read this before with all the Stephen King books I've read over the years i' never read The Shining sh until
this week The Shining um have you read this have you actually read this I read it as a like a teenager so I don't really remember that's when I mind yeah so that's the thing so that's when I read most of my Stephen King books right and then and now there's enough movie adaptations to keep us going you know um this is one of the unique situations where the book is very very good and the movie is very very good mhm but actually they're also quite dissimilar in many ways um I think I like the book more than the movie uh although I love the movie it's one of my favorite movies it's it's bizarre in ways the book is not bizarre and the weird thing is it mostly the Str yeah the strangeness is in the casting um and the thing is if if you read The Shining the book there's no
way you would cast Jack Nicholson in an adaptation of it but in this version there's no one else but Jack Nicholson that could pull this off you know what I mean because it requires an insane person like in the book I mean this is I guess this is a spoiler in the book the hotel itself makes Jack Torrance go insane you know it haunts him until he becomes insane and becomes dangerous yeah in the movie he's just a dangerous lunatic who happens to get a job at a hotel that's haunted yes and it yeah pushes him over the head yeah and in the same way in the book his wife is a regular strong willed um mother looking after her son and and doing all in the book in in the film she's just hysterical weakling right from the
start and correct me if I'm wrong Danny's powers are more explicit in the book too he has he has speciic he just a psychic yeah and not only that um I did not realize so if if you watch the movie and you go they don't explain a lot just read the book they just tell you everything all these Mysteries everyone's like who let Jack out of the freezer in the book there's just a chapter of him getting LED out of the freezer and it's very explicit who let him Tony the imaginary friend that Danny um do you remember who that is no okay so in the movie they never say it's just a a boy who lives in his mouth that sometimes hides in his stomach right yes yes Tony is Danny as an adult using The
Shining to to his self and warn him about the Overlook right which is why he gets all those don't go there stuff I I can understand why kubri didn't want to make that explicit yeah you and there's a few things where it's like okay I understand why he wanted this a bit more ambiguous for a film because evidently also when they asked for the rights stepen King also said actually I've got a screenplay right here for you that's basically just verba him the book and was like we're not going to use that I'm writing my own which is also the partly the reason why Stephen King hates the film yeah no I get that too because it's not what he wanted yeah but there's also some bizarre um consistencies between them that they just don't go into like in the
book The Novel that Jack is writing is a novel about the Overlook it's it's a book about the history of the Overlook Hotel and there's this whole big plot point where he discovers a scrapbook in the basement which is all of the secrets about the Overlook all just laid out for him right and the hotel put that there purposely for him to find right so he knew all this stuff sure in the movie they don't mention any of that but on the desk next to him when he's typing is a scrapbook right that's just not mentioned but it's clearly just a detail from the book yeah yeah maybe yeah maybe you got shot and it never made it also possible too is that they were going to they were going to include and they just didn't and then it's just a detail now
fascina but I love the movie I watched the movie last night again after I finished the book I went straight back and watched the movie um they're great companion pieces to one another really because it's just it's an interpretation it's like listening to a band do a cover of a song you like in a different style that you also like that style of yeah totally yeah I think yeah Stephen King ad adaptations are were so hit and miss I mean they still there' been some really good ones like U Gerald's Game on Netflix was very good Yes actually a lot of the Netflix ones that 1922 on Netflix was very oh yeah with Thomas Jane yeah that was good yeah um yeah the early ones like for example one of my favorite Stephen King books because I read it when I was young and
it really appealed to me was The Dark Half yes and the movie of that is [ __ ] awful and best forgotten yeah but I was very excited when when I learned there was a movie until I watched it and like uh the Lang is very famous yes because of the special effects at the end yes [ __ ] [ __ ] H because that well that's another that's another criticism a lot of people level at Stephen King himself was is that his books tend to start very very well and taper off at the end but langal is one of the rare cases where the quality of film making starts off quite good and then tapers off towards the end yeah he's in it at the end he is yeah he's in quite a few of his adaptations he pops up yeah Stephen King's interesting in that because I'm assuming you've read on
writing his book about no I never have actually a you should read it it's good yeah maybe I should yeah but he talks about how he is that where he quotes that he's the burger and fries of the litery over probably the thing I always remember about he doesn't use those words because I don't think he uses the word literally over but there's two things that always that that I remember from from from that always and one is one is that he always gets asked what kind of pencils he uses and he's like it's a [ __ ] stupid question like the using the same pencil as me is not going to help you be a better writer amazing and he said this people's obsessions with the tools people use really annoys him and the other thing yeah because it's true I there's it is interesting to
learn how people do things on that level like that Lit literally how do you do it I find it interesting but he is right just because I go and buy the same piece of paper you if I go by the yellow notepads that George Lucas yeah you'll be able toide Star Wars exactly Matt find out what [ __ ] paintbrushes Picassa used will be rich exactly and the other thing is he has this whole thing about how he doesn't outline he literally just sits down and writes because he sees it as believe that exactly yeah right but he said and but even the the way he describes he says you the story guide him towards the end a sculptor just there's a statue David's in there and the scul just finding him and I'm like shs away the
bits that aren't d That's not how sculpting Works Mr King and that's also I guess I'm like if that's how you feel it when you're write fine but that's not how it works you're making it up it's not there and you're discovering you're making it up you're deciding what comes next after you've written the first bit Yeah because he said he's outlining and it it never worked in because one of the actually one of the stories I think it's in that book he talks about the stand and how he literally just got stuck right had no idea what was gonna happen walked away from it for months and then suddenly one day got the I think the he was like oh a nuke yeah and then like came back and and then yeah and that's why when you read the stand you're like well I came out of [ __ ]
nowhere cuz he he didn't work in it for six months and then he was like oh I got an idea mate I reckon he must have done that with um is it dream catcher which I love oh yeah with the aliens show up at the end yeah okay but the aliens show up halfway through it's not an alien book right it starts off friends friends go to a cabin as they do every year and commiserate the fact that one of them is dead yeah they you get the feeling yeah that maybe they killed him yeah and then halfway through [ __ ] that guess what aliens aliens also one of the kids now possessed by the aliens yeah so yeah that's the other thing I always remember that and always think of it when I think of the ones that go off the rails that's why yeah but yeah if that's how he is able to do
it well oh yeah whatever I mean the man's prolific he write he wrote so many books that his publisher start started refusing to publish them even though they were all Best Sellers and so he had to write them under an assumed name for a bit that's funny did you watch the second part that's what the dark half is about the dark half the plot of The Dark Half is about as anthor who writes novels and no one likes them but then he writes under a pseudonym yes yes and and everyone loves those books but he feels like he doesn't know where those stories come from and he finds out he had he's a [ __ ] what do they call the the the twin that got absorbed into his he has like an eyeball in his brain and book book is amazing he writes a lot of books about that there's Secret
Window I forget what that's the movie but I don't think the book's called that I think they changed the name from the short story but there's um that's about an author who doesn't know if he's plagiarized his books or not yeah okay I remember um what's his name is very good in that by the wayo Yeah cuz he's a [ __ ] psychopath but you don't know if he's real or not because he just starts showing up to Johnny Depp saying you stole my novel and he's like I don't think I did but then he's like did I did I and did I murder my wife that's right did you murder your wife or did I murder my wife I can't remember yeah yeah either way I think there's a woman buried outside one of us has done something one of has got a wife outside did you watch the second
part of it the um the recent it yes was it any good I've been told it's not I liked it it it is what it is yeah I liked it it it's problematic separating the two timelines anyway because the whole point of the book it is that you see not flashbacks but you you are informed of the present by what happened in the past and the scenes of juxtaposed we're taking all the kid stuff and putting it in one episode and all the adult stuff putting it in another episode I understand why you would do that but you you get robbed of that symmetry when when you do that yeah it goes a bit off the rails at the end yeah to be honest yeah book as well I I still love it because it's it's got so much good stuff in there I did see a funny AR I was going to say there was a funny
argu on Twitter because someone was saying oh they changed it and they're like what bits you talking about oh you know what at the end they Chang and then someone was like sorry were you expecting in the year 2021 or whenever that came out that they were going to literally film a child orgy Stephen King wrote that in the book for some reason back in the80s and listeners for context the kids are in a sewer and they think they're about to die there's one girl and she knows they all the boys have crushes on her so she like lets them all have a go it's weird but it is kind of in context cuz there is this weird sexual undertone to the whole thing cuz of there's just like these pubescent teenagers who are scared of ghost but also want to [ __ ] this girl
but they definitely were not going to put that in the movie no 100% we're not going to put that in the movie in any adaptation I don't think that's in the miniseries from the 80s either is it no no no no I'm sure it's not no it's been a long time since I've seen that did they separate the kid story the adult story into separate episodes in that well it was a miniseries though so it was kind of like I mean when you I think when you watch it now it's the same it's like smushed together because it just it's just one big movie because you watch it one after the other yeah yeah yeah with Tim Curry as Pennywise only one of them supposed to see the clown because only one of them scared of clowns yes yeah that's my biggest problem with every adaptation is the
clown was too scary became too iconic and just became embedded in that story it's just about a scary clown it's not whatever you fear he appears to you as that yeah yeah one of them sees a wealth one of them sees the Leer uh because his mom's a germaphobe so he sees a leper after him when I see Penny wise I just see my dad really disappointed in me why aren't you a linguist a professor of linguistics I was so specific Denny I was so specific um how long have we been talking we' got 40 minutes on here I think we had 20 minutes on the other one right all right sure and we're at well I'll just put a quick shout out before we move on to the after party diabl 4 is good check it out is it okay I probably will I probably will yeah it's I don't
